About Lavacore by Oceanic Men's Vest

Lavacore is a technically advanced fabric, constructed and engineered exclusively for water sports requiring the ultimate in thermal control and superior comfort. This unique synthetic construction closely matches the stretch and movement of a traditional Lycia rash guard, while providing the insulation qualities similar to that of a neoprene wetsuit. Close to the skin, Lavacore's soft internal fleece and high 4-way stretch produces the ultimate comfort-warmth-weight ratio, a true leader amongst any fabrics within the water sports industry.

Wet or dry, hot or cold, Lavacore helps control your core temperature longer, whether worn as a standalone garment, or under your wetsuit or clothing.

OUTER Lycia layer is a 6.35 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) knitted nylon wrap knit Tricot with water repellant treatment to ensure fast water runoff and anti-wind chill properties.

INTER layer is an impermeable breathable Micro-porous high stretch Polyurethane (PU) film which is wind proof and breathable allowing perspiration to be drawn away in hot conditions.

INNER Fleece layer is a 8.47 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) 4 way stretch polyester fleece with elastane. It has anti-pill treatment, as well as anti-microbial treatment to reduce odors and eliminate bacteria.

Lavacore is neutrally buoyant so you won't need to add weight to your weight system compromising your weight comfort zone. All seams are overlapped during flat-lock sewing to ensure maximum water integrity and strength. Lavacore provides SPF 50+ sun protection and is designed and developed with Oceanic, your guarantee of quality. Men's Vest has a waist drawstring closure with barrel lock to prevent suit ride up when layering under exposure suit and is hypoallergenic.

nice material but doesn't quite fit my body

By

doesn't fit well over my older ecto-mesomorp body--too tight in waist (hard to get on and off) and a little loose in chest but shoulders ok; i'm having a zipper put in on the front to make things easier

Great Vest!

By

from Virginia Beach, VA, US

This is a great vest if you are performing any water sports in 70 degree or warmer water. Otherwise it is the perfect device to use as a warmer undergarment with your dry/wetsuit. I used it several times in February and March this year as an undergarment to my Aqualung, 8MM, one piece Semidry suit, to dive in 45F – 46F degree water and my body was nice and warm during the entire time I was underwater. I plan to use it again over my skin suit next month in the Caribbean for added protection in 90+ feet dives. I found the waist elastic cord to get in my way more often than I was getting to require it, so I simply removed it. Other than that, this is a very nice, warm, comfortable vest that not only keeps you comfy, but in style as well. If you are like me that doesn't like to expose unnecessary skin, this is the perfect device to wear.

I would buy this product again and again

By

I've been buying all my diving equipment from leisure pro for the last 4 years and so far it is the best customer service you could find online and anywhere, Just ask for Aaron on sells department and you will see what I'm talking about.I am really pleased with the quality of products, conditions, and delivery times.

Good insulation

By

Use under a 3mm wetsuit. Definitely warmer. Neutral buoyancy a plus. I get cold easy and this is much better than getting a thicker wetsuit. Will buy more items from Lavacore. Not cheap, but worth the money.

Q&A

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Michael O  Hate neoprene. Love Lavacore!!
Johnny S  Is it a buoyancy vest?
STEPHEN B  No. Neutrally buoyant .
STEVE T  This vest has neutral buoyancy characteristics
JAMES S  No, it is for additional warmth but does not require additional weight in that it is almost nutural buoyant.
SIDNEY B  No
KLAUS P  No
JORDAN G  Hi, No, this vest is neutrally buoyant so it does not affect your buoyancy at all. That is one of the cool things about it. With a wetsuit (neoprene) vest you'd get some positive buoyancy effect but with Lavacore you don't. It is similar to 4th Element gear.
Roger D  No it is not a buoyancy vest. Best as under layer for layering with wet suit
DAVID S  It is neutral.
DAVID F  No.
Alvin W  No, this vest does not provide any buoyancy.
THOMAS R  how thick is this vest? Is it 2 mill or 3 mil
JORDAN G  It feels like about 2mil thickness. The material is not neoprene - it is a kind of fleece material inside with nylon/polyester outside - very similar to the 4th Element Thermocline. To me it feels just slightly heavier and denser than the Thermocline, though, but about the same thickness. Both this and the Thermocline insulate like about a 2.5 mil wetsuit in my experience.
Joe S  Lavacore is equivalent to about 2mm if you wear it by itself and more like a 2.5 or 3mm if you layer it under a wetsuit. layering it will channel the water and not allow for as much water exchange so it stays in your suit longer.
Mike W  They say it equates to a 3mm in warmth, all I know is that it does a nice job of keeping warm. I usually put it on after the first dive and I can do a 60 minute dive on the second dive and not get chilled. So I really like it. Be aware they run extremely small I wear a xxl wetsuit but in this vest I wear a xxxxl.
JAMES S  It would equate to a 3mil in terms of thickness, but it not neoprene. Excellent insulator if you layer. I wear a rash guard shirt, the vest, a full skin, then my wet suit. Works great.
JOYCE C  Lavacore is not really a "mil" product. I find their items to be very warm and comfortable, but they are stretchy and kind of fuzzy on the inside, not neoprene. Hope that helps.
SEAN E  Probably a little under 2. Best use has been for a comfortable layer under a 3 mil wetsuit. The fleece is pretty nice on the skin. Pretty nice for snorkeling too.
