About Lavacore by Oceanic Men's Short Sleeve Shirt

Lavacore is a technically advanced fabric, constructed and engineered exclusively for water sports requiring the ultimate in thermal control and superior comfort. This unique synthetic construction closely matches the stretch and movement of a traditional Lycia rash guard, while providing the insulation qualities similar to that of a neoprene wetsuit. Close to the skin, Lavacore's soft internal fleece and high 4-way stretch produces the ultimate comfort-warmth-weight ratio, a true leader amongst any fabrics within the water sports industry.

Wet or dry, hot or cold, Lavacore helps control your core temperature longer, whether worn as a standalone garment, or under your wetsuit or clothing.

OUTER Lycia layer is a 6.35 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) knitted nylon wrap knit Tricot with water repellant treatment to ensure fast water runoff and anti-wind chill properties.

INTER layer is an impermeable breathable Micro-porous high stretch Polyurethane (PU) film which is wind proof and breathable allowing perspiration to be drawn away in hot conditions.

INNER Fleece layer is a 8.47 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) 4 way stretch polyester fleece with elastane. It has anti-pill treatment, as well as anti-microbial treatment to reduce odors and eliminate bacteria.

Lavacore is neutrally buoyant so you won't need to add weight to your weight system compromising your weight comfort zone. Full gusset incorporated into the underarms offer exceptional arm movement and stretch and all seams are overlapped during flat-lock sewing to ensure maximum water integrity and strength. Lavacore provides SPF 50+ sun protection and is designed and developed with Oceanic, your guarantee of quality. Men's Short Sleeve Shirt has a waist drawstring closure with barrel lock to prevent suit ride up when layering under exposure suit and is hypoallergenic.

Lavacore Short Sleeve Shirt

This stuff is great for cold water. I wore the short sleeve short for a quarry dive last week. Under a 7 mil wetsuit it was great. Bottom temp at 60 feet was 46 degrees. It does a terrific job. (Just order it a little big. The sizes run small.)

Great for a little heat on a cold dive

By

Purchased the Lavacore short sleeve shirt for diving in Wisconsin all year long. Wanted something for under a 7mm wet suit to keep the heat in by my body. I already have Lavacore socks, which are fantastic. This shirt is great for that purpose. We do ice diving in the winter and this shirt helps a lot. Normal water temperature is 34 - 47 degrees. I ordered an XL and it was true to the fit and tight. I wanted it that way to remove unnecessary water movement. My only issue is when it is wet, removal is difficult unless you have your buddy help start peel it up.

Worked as intended

Seems to fit small. Once wet it does strech some but I stll needed the XXL when I usually order XL in most items.

Great rashguard by Lavacore!

By

You pretty much pay for its superb quality. It was well worth it! I have received compliments on this rash guard. The (SPF) for this rash guard worked what it claims! Be sure to apply sun block on areas that this rash guard does not cover. Few things to consider before purchasing it: Get 1 size up since it runs small on the neck, chest, abs and sleeves. If you wear an L then get XL. I wear an XXL. I ordered XXXL. The overall fits feels great at one size up. Or you will not be happy on how tight it feels. It feels like 3mm thick compared to the 3mm shortie wetsuit. It has inner micro-fleece lining that feels soft to touch. Just make sure you hang dry inside out after you take it off allowing the inner fleece to dry and preventing odor to build up. To date, I have not had any issue with odors. I wore this rash guard for snorkeling out in the western Caribbean during the week of July 13th to 26th, 2013. It was comfortable as it kept me warm in the water. The water does not creep into it much. I would not advise you wearing this rash guard under the direct sun for a really long time as it gets really warm. Be sure to go under a shade and/or splash water on your guard to keep cool. It is breathable! I think you will be content wearing this rash guard!

Great Product, RUNS SMALL!!!

By

This product is really great to wear under a wet suit to add another layer of thermal protection. But ... it runs REALLY SMALL, especially under the arms. I usually wear medium size products, and my buddy is usually good with medium/large. For this, I had to go with large, and my buddy with XL.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Larry C  What is the total weight of this suit? Can just the shirt be bought?
Steve S  This is a fairly light shirt and this is just the shirt.
MARIO S  It's quite a light weightand it protects and warms a little. You can perfectly wear the shirt alone. Enjoy
Bill S  I have a large and it weighs about 3/4 of a pound. It's pretty lightweight. Yes you can buy just the shirt only. Check out Leisure Pro's website for this product. There is a sizing chart to figure out what size to order. If you go to the specification tab for the product it should tell you the exact weight for the size that you need.
Scott H  It's not a wetsuit and it's fairly light weight. A short sleeve, long sleeve, and other various versions can be purchased with shorts or pants. I personally own the short sleeve and a long sleeve with hood and shorts. I hope this answers your questions.
GEORGE T  It's designed more a rash guard shirt or tone layered under your wet suit. I found it to be cumbersome to get on and off and ended up going to a 2 mil neoprene vest.
C MICHAEL C  The product you are looking at is the shirt only. It weighs less than a pound dry. I recently purchased a short sleeve shirt and a couple other Lava Core products. I love their products but they all run small. I'd suggest a size or two larger for the shirt. It works great wet alone or as a base layer in dry suit. I'm just a consumer but love their products.
ROBERT M  It is like a really heavy lycra. It is just a shirt I bought for swimming in public. Is good if you are swimming around coral and has good abrasion resistance. I got it because I have had multiple surgeries and don't want to scare kids or have to answer a lot of questions about it. It has no boyancy factor and fits snugly so swimming in it is better than using a t-shirt.
Steve K  How warm, or how much warmer is it in a wet suit with this on in addition?
PETER J  Steve K, I have not worn the Lavacore under a wetsuit. A friend recommended the suit and he wore it, in lieu of as we were diving in the BVIs. I do believe it would add more warmth though.
IVAN N  Well, warmer. It is quite thick and the inner side is fleece. When dry it is real warm, and wet not that much but still adds to total insulation.
CHERYL P  Wish I could be more helpful. We haven't doubled up with wetsuit over the Lavacore, but a friend @ local dive shop says she uses hers layered with wet suit over it & it makes a big difference--she loves it. I love my Lavacore by itself. Its more comfortable than neoprene, as well as easier to get on & off..
MARIO S  I've used in in Aruba, water about28 degrees centigrade, it's maybe a bid cooler than a 3 mm, however for me it was warm enough and much easier to put on and undo. Enjoy Mario
Steve H  What size chest does the medium fit? thanks
GARY J  You would buy a Medium, if you had a chest size of 38 to 42 (according to the sizing chart). I have a chest size of 48, which is at the top end of the XL - so I purchased the XXL. It fits well for my intended use. If I was planning on using it as a core warmer, I would have tried the XL.
EUGENE H  I bougth XXL and found it true to size but I'm 6-5 and 280#
