About Lavacore by Oceanic Hood

Lavacore is a technically advanced fabric, constructed and engineered exclusively for water sports requiring the ultimate in thermal control and superior comfort. This unique synthetic construction closely matches the stretch and movement of a traditional Lycia rash vest, while providing the insulation qualities similar to that of a neoprene wetsuit. Close to the skin, Lavacore's soft internal fleece and high 4-way stretch produces the ultimate comfort-warmth-weight ratio, a true leader amongst any fabrics within the water sports industry.

Wet or dry, hot or cold, Lavacore helps control your core temperature longer, whether worn as a standalone garment, or under your wetsuit or clothing.

OUTER Lycia layer is a 6.35 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) knitted nylon wrap knit Tricot with water repellant treatment to ensure fast water runoff and anti wind chill properties.

INTER layer is an impermeable breathable micro-porous high stretch polyurethane (PU) film which is wind proof and breathable allowing perspiration to be drawn away in hot conditions.

INNER Fleece layer is a 8.47 oz./10.8 sq. feet (180g/sq. m) 4 way stretch polyester fleece with elastane. It has anti pill treatment, as well as anti-microbial treatment to reduce odors and eliminate bacteria.

Lavacore is neutrally buoyant so you won't need to add weight to your weight system compromising your weight comfort zone. All seams are overlapped during flat-lock sewing to ensure maximum water integrity and strength. Lavacore provides SPF 50+ sun protection and is designed and developed with Oceanic, your guarantee of quality. The garment is also hypoallergenic.

The Lavacore by Oceanic Hood is commonly used for Recreation and more. One reason why the Lavacore by Oceanic Hood is popular is because of its Good Fit.

Love it

I'm NOT a cold water diver so I wanted something to keep me warm in the Cozumel Caribbean in December. This (along with the socks and long sleeve shirt) were perfect. I ordinarily hate the restrictive feeling of a hood. But this was so comfortable (and nice and warm), I truly forgot I had it on while diving. And it was easy to slip the part of the hood that covers my chin down, because I didn't need it.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
GARY B  Soft, comfortable, & warm
MELANIE C  This hood is not stiff. I have a small head and short neck. It doesn't sufficate me . It is also easy to put on, it's very comfortable.
Jim M  Good value. Sizing is what you'd expect. Stretches. Comfy.
STEPHEN B  it is more comfortable than a 3 mm neoprene hood; it also dries quickly in the carribean. the disadvantage is that the skirt is short and pulls out of the jumpsuit; allowing leakage on my neck. I like in water 80 degrees or warmer, but below that I prefer a neoprene hood with longer skirt.
Bob L  Sent this one back as the fit over the forehead was loose. The replacement was slightly better.
Bob L  Seemed like a good idea and had good reviews. It worked alright but I was not that impressed. I used it with a beanie over it. I couldnt really tell any difference when I went with just the beanie.
ED G  great light weight but very warm hood. i use this on a regular scheduled dive in the Denver Aquarium in 73 degree water & it is great. i orde one size up (xlrg)
Shopper  is it good for cold water?
KENNETH W  Cold is relative to each individual diver. It's a thin hood more suited for tropical climates adding extra insulation should you venture into depths closer and beyond 30 meters. I would not recommend this for locations off the California coast where I live.
Joe S  You can expect this hood to add warmth equivalent to a 2mm hood by itself or 3mm hood if you wear it under another hood. It is neutrally buoyant so you would not have to change weights if you layer it under another. Lavacore hood is good for as low as 60 degrees for some people, but normally used in a little warmer water like 65 - 80 degrees when you start to get chilled much quicker after repetitive dives.
ELAINE H  I have both a Lacacore full suit and a lavacore hood. I love them both especially for the 4th or 5th day of diving when you tend to feel the cold more. They don't appear to change your buoyancy or need for more weight. What do you call "cold water"? All water is lower than our core temp so we will eventually feel cold even in 80-plus water.
DENISE R  You can expect the same kind of thermal protection from this as you might get from a 2mm to 3mm neoprene hood. I would expect it is good for water 65-80 degrees depending on how much thermal protection you need. I have found the Lavacore to trap air bubbles, so make sure you pre-wet it and get the air out before you descend.
STEVE R  Great for diving in Catalina, California. Water temp in 60-65 range. Kept my noggin nice and toasty; and very comfortable. Don't have any experience in anything colder.
MELANIE C  It depends on how cold. I only used it in the gulf. Even in the winter months the gulf gets down in the 50s, and I was comfortable. I hope this helps you. Happy diving!!
Glenn P  I'm considering this fantastic hood option. I assume this is the current Lavacore hood manufactured. Why the discrepancy between your listed size chart and Lavacore Internationals? It's got me confused? Keep up the great work. Regards, Glenn
Joe S  LavaCore is an Oceanic brand. The sizing should be the same, but if you are finding a discrepancy in the size charts, definitely go with the chart from Lavacore.
Frank L  This is the current Lavacore Hood. Our size chart we currently have posted is exactly the same as Lavacore's size chart for hoods.
WILLIAM J  The best indicator of the correct size for yourself is the hat size. I wear a 7 1/4" hat and ordered a large, and it fit perfectly. I hope this helped you. This is a warm and easy wearing hood.
Marilyn S  Please use the size chart from Lavacore International. http://www.lavacoreinternational.com/lavacore-hood/
ED G  I love this hood( the socks also). I thought that I needed the medium size based on the charts, but I exchanged for a large which was perfect. The opposite proved true for the socks. I dive both these products on a regular basis as a volunteer at the Denver aquarium and they have held up well.
ED S  I was a bit confused as well, I wear a 7.25 to 7.50 hat, I bought both a large and an extra large, the large seemed to fit best. Hoe this fits helps...and by the way, it's a great hood.
GARRETT F  I am not sure how to answer your question - I have only used the hood once - its very warm. That's all I can offer you.
