About Kapitol Reef Snorkel

The Kapitol Reef Snorkel is the world's first Pressure-Regulated Snorkel This revolutionary Dry Snorkel uniquely Regulates Exhalation Pressure and Separates Fresh Ready-to-Inhale Air from Exhaled Carbon Dioxide This unique feature is accomplished by Two Separate Contoured Tubes One Tube is for Inhalation and the other for Exhalation

Conventional Snorkels simply do not Facilitate Normal Human Breathing in the Pressurized Underwater Environment The Re-Breathing of Exhaled Carbon Dioxide combined with Water Pressure against your Chest Wall creates what we call Snorkel Panic As a result, Inhalation Muscles Fatigue Quickly, Lung Volumes Decrease, and Breathing Patterns become Erratic The Kapitol Reef Snorkel cures Snorkel Panic and Shallow Breathing problems with the employment of Kadence Technology

This Revolutionary Science behind the Kapitol Reef Snorkel provides support for your Inhalation Muscles, preserves Lung Volumes, restores a Normal Cadence to Breathing and Maximizes Comfort and Confidence by ensuring a Fresh, Dry Breath every time To create a truly innovative product, Kapitol Reef's team was forced to question some long-standing conventions and develop different, and ultimately better, components and technology Here are some of the benefits that sets Kapitol Reef apart from others in the snorkeling industry:

So far, the Kapitol Reef Dry Snorkel is the best I've used. It performs completely differently that other snorkels, so that may be causing some of the negative reviews.

The thing I like best about the snorkel is my ability to breathe instantly upon hitting the surface without having to blow to purge water. This is how its done: when diving, water does slowly leak into the breathing area (why I gave it 4 stars). When ascending to the surface, with your head oriented upward, blow out gradually during the ascent. There is no need to blow hard; just exhale normally. This purges the water naturally from the bottom purge valve during your ascent. When you hit the surface, breathe in immediately without the burst exhale to expel water so common on other snorkels.

Because I can breathe instantly upon returning to the surface, I stay down longer and dive deeper than with any other snorkel I've used. I don't know if it is a gimmick or not, but the Kadence Technology works for me. I feel that inhalation resistance boosts my lung capacity and lets me stay down longer.

The gurgling doesn't bother me. The inhalation and exhalation tubes are different, so the gurgling is only coming from the exhalation tube when surface snorkling. I'm usually diving anyway (I like to see things up close). I always have the in-tube purged, and usually have the ex-tube purged, by the time I hit the surface.

If the top valve sealed better during dives, preventing water leakage into the top valve, this would be a solid 5 stars. Splashing water and waves never leak into the in-tube, just when diving. I easily purge it during the ascent, so I am still completely sold on my snorkel, but this is one place Kapitol Reef could be better.

Okay...here's the lowdown:
This snorkel is noisy. Other snorkels make noise. This one is only a little worse...not that bad really...as long as you keep it DRY on the inside. On the inhale...it's fine. No problem. On the exhale, your air opens a valve on the bottom so that it can exit up the center tube. Your exhale pressure opens that valve against simple air pressure when held out of the water...and against much greater water pressure when the bottom of the snorkel is in the water. So, when the snorkel is in the water, the valve doesn't open much unless you blow hard. Back to my comment about DRY. As long as the inside of this snorkel is dry...your air pushing open the valve and going out the exhaust tube...not that noisy. If it gets wet in there...different story! You can do your own little experiment to get an idea of the noise. Take a straw and a cup of water. Hold one end of the straw well above the water and blow into the other end...not much noise, right? Now hold the far tip of the straw just under the water and blow. Fun...maybe. Noise...up substantially. Get used to it if you use this snorkel. You can't really blow all the water out once it gets wet in there...at least not well enough to reduce the noise. Since the gap that opens between the exhaust tube and the valve when underwater is so small, it only takes a little water to make this snorkel noisy.

As for diving with the snorkel...it fills with water. The suggestion they give to blow air out on the way up is excellent...it works. If you don't do it and surface...you need to blow much harder to clear...or get a mouthful of water.

Other points: Superdry...this snorkel is not. Water can come over the top and get in...nothing to stop it. Also, no purge valve on the bottom. To blow water out, you have to blow it out the exhaust tube, which means out the top.

I use the Ocean Master 3D and the Mares Hydrex which I bought from Leisure Pro. I would recommend either over the Kapitol Reef. But if you plan on keeping this snorkel dry inside by not diving or using in rough conditions, it may work out for you.

    Comments about Kapitol Reef Snorkel:

    I love this snorkel.

It delivers on its promise to be a truly dry snorkel.

    It fits comfortably.

I took it to a trip to the Mayan riviera. It was amazing being able to snorkel for hours on end without the fatigue I used to experience with cheap snorkels. I was able to free dive and swim right along turtles in Akumal and Snorkel comfortably in Tulum and Puerto Morelos.

It was well worth the money.

    I highly recommend it!

      Comments about Kapitol Reef Snorkel:

My brother in law gave me this snorkel for a cruise that my wife and I just went on. We used it in all 3 ports on the West coast of Mexico - I absolutely loved it! I was surprised to see some negative reviews, they must be either using it wrong or have gotten a defective unit somehow.

I've been snorkeling and free diving for years, so I was skeptical about the size and the science behind it. The shape of the snorkel is more rectangular than other snorkels, so from the side it looks a little bigger, but it's really not! The thin side is what cuts through the water anyways, so it doesn't feel all that different than the Atomix SV1, which I've used for years. The size really comes secondary when you get down to how this performs!

Breathing regulation really helps - as a free diver I've always tried to even my respiratory rhythmn with much difficulty, this completely fixes that! My pulse was actually about 10 beats slower when using this, that helped me stay down much longer. My breathing isn't erratic at all with this, it helps level it out which made the whole experience better.

The owners manual was very explicit about not trying to purge or blast this snorkel like every other snorkel. It took a minute to get the hang of it since I've been using other products for years, but what a difference! Just exhale slowly as you ascend and before you break the surface, as soon as you surface you can INHALE rather than having to blast. It seemed so much more natural and easy. I did notice a very small gurgle intermittenly, but it was almost entirely eliminated by exhaling while ascending instead of waiting until I got to the surface. Besides, the side of the snorkel has a flexible joint that lets you dump out the tiny bit of water that might have gotten in if you didn't do it right, so don't try to blast it!

All in all, I absolutely loved this snorkel - it's definitely a big improvement from everything else I've used!

feels very large on the side of head and is a little hard to clear when scuba surfacing. is a good theory to not get carbon monoxide mix but a little heavier than what i thought it would be. really needs a bottom purge valve designed into it some how.
