Fishers are great. They are expensive but they are not cheap toys. They are rugged professional quality tools. They are also a lot of fun. We get what we pay for and the price of a Fisher is well worth it.

Fishers top of the line hand held metal detector
The Pulse 8X is the highest performance pulse induction metal detector on the market today. It's the choice of the Pro's! The Pulse 8X is in use by military, law enforcement, commercial, and salvage divers worldwide. Heavy duty construction makes this detector ideal for commercial applications and the preferred detector of many professional treasure hunters. The claim-to-fame of this pulse induction metal detector is its ability to ignore mineralization in the environment while maintaining high sensitivity to all metal targets. The Pulse 8X is not affected by highly mineralized salt water, coral, rocks with a high iron content, or magnetic (black) sand; all of which drive conventional detectors crazy . Also, the detection range is unaffected by the medium between the metal detector and the metal target. Performance does not change whether detecting through air, water, silt, sand, or solid coral. The Pulse 8X comes with all the accessories needed to use the detector on land or dive to 200' (60 meters) deep. The Pulse 8X detects all metals from coins and jewelry, to anchors and cannons. The diver is alerted to presence of a metal target by both visual readout (shown on the meter) and an audio output (heard in the underwater earphone Powered by an internal 9 volt rechargeable battery pack, the detector will easily run all day on a full charge. Recharge the battery overnight and its ready for another full day of hunting.
The detector's buoyancy is slightly negative in the water. This allows the diver to sit the detector on the bottom to dig a target without having it float away, which is a problem with positive buoyancy" detectors. The underwater housing is a single solid casting with 0.25" (6.35 mm) wall thickness and molded-in brass inserts. A 0.5" (12.7 mm) thick acrylic faceplate is fastened down with six stainless steel screws giving a maximum depth rating in excess of 200' (60 meters). Included with the Pulse 8X is a rugged corduroy carry case, spare parts kit and a J.W. Fishers Search Team hat. The Pulse 8X Metal Detector comes with an owner's manual and is covered by a 24 month limited warranty.

what is the weight of this machine?? the fisher Pulse 8X
JUNE H
It is 8.25 lbs (3.7 kg).
JOHN A
The head is 4 lbs all together it weighs 5 lbs. On the surface the weight can bear on the arm, unless you attach the head to the waist belt. Under water I wear the head on the waist belt and the weight of the wand is nil.

what metals does it detect, what distance, through rock?
JOHN A
The Pulse 8X detects all metals, it can pick up traces of metal in bricks, rocks, and wet sand. With the highest sensitivity setting I find it detecting metal up to a foot in non-metallic substances, with practice one can narrow down the search to small metallic objects.
JASON N
It will detect all metals ..rusty junk and gold and everything between works awesome detects about 16 inches and depends on the rock

This metal detector was used to locate pipe underwater. I tested it on land before using it underwater and it picked up iron, steel, stainless steel and copper. I didn't have an opportunity to test it on gold and other precious metals. It detected metals from a distance of roughly 24" both on land and in water. I live in Florida which is where it was utilized, which has little rock. I can tell you that I was using this detector for work and my company paid for it. I would have loved to have been able to keep this detector it would have made a nice addition to my diving gear.

I believe it detects all metals down to 7 to 9 inches deep in soil. This one is suppose to work with all soil types and why I bought it. If you are searching/hunting for a specific metal it is recommended to test that same metal with your detector so you know what number or sound it gives for that specific metal from your metal detector which was very helpful for me. I would recommend JW Fisher Brand's the people were very professional and helpful.

can we identify which metal is detected?
TERRANCE K
yes! Different metals have different electromagnetic properties. Fisher products are, in my opinion, are the finest!
Ahmed S
How do we know which metal is detected?
TERRANCE K
Experiment once you purchase the detector. The two variables with be depth and metal type.
BART M
No, but it's a great u/w detector. I've only used it in fresh water; very easy to handle. If there is something there, this detector will find it through rocks and mud. I've found a lot of cans, to a 14K gold large multi-link chain.
SCOTT R
Majority of metals are detectable, the exception is stainless steel. Stainless steel items with a high iron count would be detectable such as stainless steel boat motor props.

I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?
SCOTT R
With the 8x metal detector we could add the coil to this unit and search from a boat, and the price differance between the 6x and 8x was not that great.
Hope this helps.

We had researched several units and only found positive comments on this unit. We have used this unit many times on dive missions as well as
on land and it is exceptional. ( I am one of the department divers and have used it extensively myself) When the unit needed service from some rough treatment we could not have been more pleased with how we were
treated by J.M. Fisher. This is a fine product from a great company.

This unit offers great flexibility and superior quality. I have used it with success on land, in fresh and salt water. The kit has everything you need to do recovery or just hunt. Securing it and using the underwater headset works great with my rebreather. I recommend a short piece of webbing through to electonics box, clipped to a d-ring on the waist or shoulder. This lightens drag on the detector arm.

what price should i start with

plan to use on a salt water beach.....any issues weight wise or with ability to discriminate trash ?? tia

We bought this metal detector for our gulf of Mexico trip and was nice. The only negative would be the weight of it. It will get uncomfortable after a while and that was using the strap to help support.
