About JBL 53" Sawed-Off Magnum XHD Triple Sling Speargun (4D44XHD)

Manufactured in the JBL Oceanside California Factory for maximum quality control and craftsmanship Sawed-Off Magnum XHD* XHD stands for Extra Heavy Duty and we mean it. Thicker alloy barrel, 3/8" hardened, stainless shaft, trigger mechanisms are carbide tipped and all models are equipped with 5/8" Nitro Hi-Mod bands that feature stainless wire wishbones. The XHD is the gun of choice for commercial and hard-core shooters; to these guys it's a tool not a toy. Three bands and a heavy shaft will punch through just about any fish, which is why the Shark Research Institute depends on the XHD for tough jobs like radio tagging 40ft whale sharks. Go big, go XHD. XHD Guns are nearly identical to the Magnum guns, but more rugged, and longer lasting. Using more heat-treated steel and more powerful slings, these guns provide longevity and power in one.

The Guns overall length is 43" (134.6 cm) and the 17-4 JBL736S-3N shaft is 36" x 5/16" (91.4 cm x 8 mm). The Gun is equipped with the JBL519 Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, which ever, the shock line will keep you in control. The Guns range is 18' (5.5 meters). The shaft is propelled by three JBL320 slings that measure 5/8" x 20" (16 mm x 508 mm) with 302 stainless steel wishbones giving maximum power.

Let's get right to the point, the JBL843 tip is designed to punch through even the toughest fish, penetrating thick skin and hard bone. Constructed of hardened 17-4 stainless with a razor-sharp finish they'll make short work of just about any game fish. Low-profile, stainless wings are quickly deployed and angled to grab tight and hold on. Sliding wing retainer allows for easy removal of fish. Our patented (#4685239) rotating design allows for 360°-degree spin, providing greater holding power and minimizing the chance of your point unthreading from the shaft because of a fish "rolling" in battle 2-5/8-inch wing span designed to perform even after impact on rock and reef, the JBL843 is a durable workhorse. Each point is designed for low maintenance, dependability and most important results.

All that strain from the three slings doesn't translate to a hard trigger pull; on the contrary gun has an easier trigger pull even with extreme pressure from the heavy-duty bands. Trigger mechanism has hand polished carbide inserts for longer life and durability. Barrel and trigger housing are both manufactured from aircraft quality anodized aluminum; the barrel is extra heavy-duty to eliminate flexing. Tried and trusted this is one hunting buddy you'll be glad to share a secret spot with.

Great gun!

I bought an Explorer 22 as a entry level spear gun several years ago. It was time to upgrade to more power so I went with this Magnum. The similarities handling it in the water were so close I barely noticed the transitions. The extra power has allowed me to be successful in taking larger fish. I used this gun in tight areas. You can manage it very well without banging into everything.

Good enough for me

The only gun I have owned. It's killed lots of fish but the range is a little limited. I have used other guns with and can tell the difference in range. I have brought quite a few 50-65lb amberjacks to the boat with this gun. Also the line is a little too long for when shotting bigger fish and you end up with a lot of line floating around in the water while trying to pull in fish. Construction is good. I have delayed cleaning a few times and have had no problems.

Some Flaws!

Dilevery was speady even to Canada, with no problems at customs.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Can you take it apart for travel?
ANTHONY H  I transport mine by removing the spear and unfastening the rubber straps, then its legal.
LAWRENCE E  There are phillips head screws attaching the pistol grip to the aluminum stock/barrel. It looks like you could break it down another foot or so.
TRACY P  No, it does not come apart. But it is pretty compact compared to other guns I've seen.
