I dive the Puget Sound where the Ling Cod are huge and the water and visibility are challenging on a good day. This Gun is perfect for any size fish we have and is easy to load and use. Acurate is an understatement, point and shoot to 20 feet on two bands is easy. 8-10 feet a single band does the trick. Workmanship is excellent, and all materials are high quality. Great Buy!
If you're looking for a spear gun that's big on performance while still leaving a little green in your wallet, the Explorer is perfect. Explorer series spear guns' pack quality features like hardened stainless steel 2-piece trigger, stainless steel spear shaft, and cast aluminum handle onto a compact 1" (25mm) 6063 aerospace alloy barrel for quick target acquisition and fatal results. Same parallel power source and low profile design make Explorer spear guns perfect for cagy fish when the shot window is a split second. At the end of the day it's the fish count that really matters, and nothing stacks them up like the Explorer.
The Explorer 24 is powered by one 9/16" x 24" (7.11mm x 610 mm) Hi-Mod band with 302 stainless steel wishbones. JBL's unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. Gun has a low-profile, pistol grip handle that makes for easy target acquisition.
The Explorer 22 comes equipped with the JBL742SA 42" (106.7 cm) Stainless 17-4 spring steel shaft with a 5/16" (8 mm) diameter, and is hand-tuned for alignment then heat-treated for maximum hardness to reduce flex and provide optimum energy transfer. Gun is equipped with a two-piece stainless steel trigger mechanism for easy pulls and a light weight corrosion resistant aluminum handle. The gun's overall length of 47" (119.4 cm) and has a 21' (6.4 meters) range. The Explorer 24 has a shaft with 6mm threads and a JBL847 Twin Barb Rock Point.
Tip is constructed of rugged stainless steel, JBL's fixed Spear points are a perfect blend of durability and performance. Each point is designed for low maintenance, dependability and most important results. 2-5/8" (67mm) wing span this economical multi-purpose point is designed for increased holding power and 3/8" (9.5mm) standard profile opens a large hole for easy passage of barbs through the fish, one shot is all you will ever need with this tip. Wing retainer allows for easy removal of fish. Point is for medium to small fish. A short-tapered, machine cut point provides enough muscle to withstand rock hits and still punch through skin and bone of even the toughest fish. The Gun is equipped with the JBL515 Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, whichever the shock line will keep you in control. The Explorer 24 is negatively buoyant and in proudly made in the USA.

I have never spear fished before and neither has my husband but he really wants to start. I just want to know how far this gun shoots and how long in feet it is. Also, does it come with a spear or do I need to buy that separately. Does this come with all the accessories or do I need to buy them all separately as well? I just don't want to make a mistake in buying something without all of the parts.

Hi Madison,
I bought this spear gun a couple of years ago and have had great success with it. I was also a beginner spear guy. The spear gun has everything you need including spear and line with bungee. The biggest fish I speared was about a 5-ft amber jack with no trouble. For bigger fish you'll probably want a bigger gun but if you're just starting out this gun is plenty big. I found the two-band gun to be perfect for providing plenty of power. The only downside is that the weight does make it difficult to keep up and aim unless you support it with your other hand, but this is probably a common issue with most guns. I just use two hands until I'm ready to shoot. I recommend this gun for any beginner. It will keep things simple but still get you good size fish.
Good luck!

It comes with all the accessories , you do not have to buy any more part . It can shoot up to 15-30 feet , but in water you can come close to the fish 3-5 feet to shoot easily. Have a good hunting.

If I buy this, what should I buy along with it? Spare parts?
JOHN N
You don't need to bring anything else with you, but it would be a good idea to buy a spare tip and spare stringer kit. You can file down a flattened tip but I did have to change stringers once since the 4 years I've had this gun. I just speared a big amberjack and grouper this weekend with this gun I've got no complaints at all.

Can I use two of the Blue 5/8x24" JBL sling's with this gun to give it more power?
DENNIS C
I believe it is a blue 5/8" O D (16 mm) JBL424 slings to make this gun have more power with the same accuracy. I may have typed my numbers wrong so double check me on that. This is the best long gun for the money. I live in TX and have brought up 52" fish from 130 ft under in the gulf with no additional bands or shock line. I free dive around 40 ft and have never had the gun not make it through the target. Hope this helps.

I'm 14 and have never used a speargun is this a good beginner gun if not which is under 150$?

Sorry for the long delay, I was away on vacation. This would be a good speargun for a beginner especially if he/she wants a speargun to advance with - this gun would eliminate buying another gun as the person advances with experience. I bought this gun for my 33 year old son-in-law who is a beginner with the thought that he could continue using it once he became experienced. I started off with a similar gun (different brand)at age 15 when I first started spearfishing - continued using it until I graduated from high school and left for college. Note that this gun does not have a shaft guide - my first gun did not have a shaft guide either and it worked fine.

It's a great speargun. Good range and knock down power. However, it must be cocked while underwater. It takes alot of muscle and skill to do so. Also, don't let the grip and trigger housing come in contact with sand. It will jamb it up.

I got this fun for my 13 yr old son and he loved it. It was a little tough to load the bands by himself at first so I helped but he got the hang of it quickly. God luck.

how many bands are on this gun? thanks!
DAVE P
The picture is not good (even enlarged). There are 2 bands to propell the spear. Also, the full length of the spear shaft aligns outside and along the top of the tubular gun housing and locks into the top of the trigger housing. Not illustrated in the picture. Don't get sand in the trigger housing or hit a rock with the spear head. Great gun! I like mine.

2. Range is 15 to 20 feet.
ZACH B
2 one-half inch bands

Hey Leland,
The gun has two bands and it works perfect on shallow waters, I've had for three years and I use it often when I go spearfishign in the shallows.
Hope this answer you question, thanks for the opportunity.
MILAS R
2 bands. You'll have plenty of power for a starter gun.
