About JBL Explorer 24 Double Sling Spear Gun (4D24)

If you're looking for a spear gun that's big on performance while still leaving a little green in your wallet, the Explorer is perfect. Explorer series spear guns' pack quality features like hardened stainless steel 2-piece trigger, stainless steel spear shaft, and cast aluminum handle onto a compact 1" (25 mm) 6063 aerospace alloy barrel for quick target acquisition and fatal results. Same parallel power source and low profile design make Explorer spear guns perfect for cagy fish when the shot window is a split second. At the end of the day it's the fish count that really matters, and nothing stacks them up like the Explorer.

The Explorer 24 is powered by one 9/16" x 24" (7.11 mm x 610 mm) Hi-Mod band with 302 stainless steel wishbones. JBL's unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. Gun has a low-profile, pistol grip handle that makes for easy target acquisition.

The Explorer 22 comes equipped with the JBL742SA 42" (106.7 cm) Stainless 17-4 spring steel shaft with a 5/16" (8 mm) diameter, and is hand-tuned for alignment then heat-treated for maximum hardness to reduce flex and provide optimum energy transfer. Gun is equipped with a two-piece stainless steel trigger mechanism for easy pulls and a light weight corrosion resistant aluminum handle. The gun's overall length of 47" (119.4 cm) and has a 21' (6.4 meters) range. The Explorer 24 has a shaft with 6mm threads and a JBL847 Twin Barb Rock Point.

Tip is constructed of rugged stainless steel, JBL's fixed Spear points are a perfect blend of durability and performance. Each point is designed for low maintenance, dependability and most important results. 2-5/8" (67 mm) wing span this economical multi-purpose point is designed for increased holding power and 3/8" (9.5 mm) standard profile opens a large hole for easy passage of barbs through the fish, one shot is all you will ever need with this tip. Wing retainer allows for easy removal of fish. Point is for medium to small fish. A short-tapered, machine cut point provides enough muscle to withstand rock hits and still punch through skin and bone of even the toughest fish. The Gun is equipped with the JBL515 Shock Line. Great entry-level gun

from Minneapolis, MN, US

I say entry-level only because gun isn't quite as compatible with more advanced type of rigging. I'm yet to use it in the water, but the double band set-up, shaft and tip are formidable, meaning this could take down some decent sized prey. The trigger mechanism is far superior to guns at a similar price point (cressi apache, etc), and the safety is actually usable instead of just an annoyance. Since this gun comes with shock-cord and line, there's no additional parts you need to buy, unless you're doing upgrades. I'd recommend this gun to anyone relatively new to spearfishing, going after coastal/reef species

Good gun

from Salem, AL, US

This being my first speargun. I wasn't expecting too much for the price. However I've been out spearfishing with it twice now, it's easy to use easy to load in packs a really good punch. I wished that it came with a rail system but other than that it shoots straight so far I've taken a nice gag in several mangrove snappers.

Great gun for the price!

from Palm Beach Gardens, FL, US

Great gun for the price. Small enough to work well on shallow reefs and large enough to snag bigger fish when diving deeper.

Ive used this speargun a lot over the past 3 or 4 months. This is a great gun overall. This gun is a great reef gun or close to shore gun for small-medium size prey. When in open water this gun performs average when going after decent size snapper and amberjack. Ive shot 20+ pound snapper and this gun performed good except for the tip. My one big complaint is that this gun doesn't have a detachable tip. If this gun had a detachable tip it would be 5 stars. The reason i would have liked it to have a detachable tip is because I recently shot a giant amberjack and while fighting it it ripped off and swam away. The barb doesn't open very wide so it was pretty easy for the fish to rip off. Ethier way this gun is really good overall.

my first speargun and i love it

This is my first speargun and Im loven it. My cousin and I both bought one each. we were getting small to big fishes from left to right and its best short and long range. At first I thought it was too heavy to spear with one hand in the water but when I got in it was light as a feather, like I said its my first speargun and I really like it A lot and you can't beat the price.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Brian B  This Speargun was recommended to me for trying spearfishing for the first time.
GRAHAM S  good price for the money, i still use it, no rust.
Madison D  I have never spear fished before and neither has my husband but he really wants to start. I just want to know how far this gun shoots and how long in feet it is. Also, does it come with a spear or do I need to buy that separately. Does this come with all the accessories or do I need to buy them all separately as well? I just don't want to make a mistake in buying something without all of the parts.
John N  Hi Madison, I bought this spear gun a couple of years ago and have had great success with it. I was also a beginner spear guy. The spear gun has everything you need including spear and line with bungee. The biggest fish I speared was about a 5-ft amber jack with no trouble. For bigger fish you'll probably want a bigger gun but if you're just starting out this gun is plenty big. I found the two-band gun to be perfect for providing plenty of power. The only downside is that the weight does make it difficult to keep up and aim unless you support it with your other hand, but this is probably a common issue with most guns. I just use two hands until I'm ready to shoot. I recommend this gun for any beginner. It will keep things simple but still get you good size fish. Good luck!
CUONG D  It comes with all the accessories , you do not have to buy any more part . It can shoot up to 15-30 feet , but in water you can come close to the fish 3-5 feet to shoot easily. Have a good hunting.
Shopper  If I buy this, what should I buy along with it? Spare parts?
John N  You don't need to bring anything else with you, but it would be a good idea to buy a spare tip and spare stringer kit. You can file down a flattened tip but I did have to change stringers once since the 4 years I've had this gun. I just speared a big amberjack and grouper this weekend with this gun I've got no complaints at all.
