About JBL Explorer 20 Single Sling Spear Gun (4D20),

If you're looking for a speargun that's big on performance while still leaving a little green in your wallet, the Explorer is perfect. Same quality as the Magnum Series: hardened stainless trigger and shaft, cast aluminum, two piece handle, but combined with a 1" aerospace alloy barrel for quick target acquisition and fatal results. Same parallel power source and low profile design make the Explorer perfect for cagey fish when the shot window is a split second

ok gun if you don't know any better

Pros

  • nice blue colour

Cons

  • low power, no aiming aids

Best Uses

  • small dish at point blank
  • Wall Display

I purchased this gun because my older pneumatic gun Cressi SL Star shaft broke. I needed replacement gun quickly and our local dive shop did not carry anything else but this JBL 20. I also bought additional sling because I figured I might need it.

First of all, with one sling this JBL 20 does not have power to penetrate even smaller surf perch at 9 feet. Now, if you add one more sling, it gets only marginally better. Since both slings are using the same channel they are obstructing each other and second sling may be touching the shaft if not properly lined up.

Another big problem is that the line of sight is obstructed with loading pad and slings. And there are no aiming provisions, no rear slot or front pin to line up. I cannot properly aim this gun for anything over 1 ft away. I just had my first session yesterday and kept on missing time after time. Frustrating. My understanding that this is a non issue for more experienced spearos. But, this gun is marketed as beginner's gun. Low power means smaller fish, which requires accurate shot placement, which is not there.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
BRAIDY P  great gun, little short but all around works great!
Shopper  Does the spear have the second notch for the second sling?
JAIME D  No, its made for just one rubber band, the notches are for the amount of velocity you want on your shot. That is the way i use it. Jim
