About IST Pro Ear Two Window Mask

For many divers, from beginners to the most experienced professionals, ear problems affect their ability to enjoy their sport more than any other health issue. More dives are aborted and more diving holidays shortened due to ear problems than any other cause.

Water and pressure affect every diver's ears. Infection and discomfort to the ear are the most common health risks involved in diving, often causing permanent damage. Many divers find they must interrupt expensive, long awaited diving holidays as a result of ear problems. The financial loss and unfulfilled expectations are enormous.

PROEAR is the world's only practical ear protector for divers, designed and developed by diving physicians, engineers and instructors at SAFE DIVE. LTD in order to enhance diver safety and comfort. The PROEAR unique design and performance, allows divers to keep their ears dry, thereby: Improving diver comfort and preventing painful ear problems, improving hearing and sense of direction underwater and simplifying equalization of pressures while diving.

The Mask Skirt is made from the best Grade of Crystal Clear, Hypoallergenic Silicone; the Double Feathered Edge Skirt is Soft and Automatically Conforms to a Wide Range of Facial Profiles. The Wide Split Style Strap is mounted on Swivel Buckles; the Silicone Strap with its Large Contact Surface Secures the Mask to the Wearer. The Silicone Rubber Double Feathered Edge Skirt and Wide Split Style Mask Strap combine to create a Perfect Seal on the Face. The Soft Silicone Ear Covers forms a Water Tight Seal between the Ear Drum and the Cover. The pressure buffer created has the same pressure as your nasal cavity mask when air exhaled through the nose is introduced through the Equalization Tubes. Therefore the pressure experienced in your middle ear and outer ear is the same and the Squeeze" from the ambient environment will be significantly reduced. Other benefits by keeping the ears sealed include reduced chance of an ear infection from water, improved sense of direction and warmth retention.

Dual Tempered Glass Window Design with Large Nose Pocket for Ease of Equalization and Low Profile, Low Volume Design, allows a Wide Field of Vision. Equalization Tubes: With One-Way Valve placed inside each tube, air is allowed to travel from the mask to the ear covers for pressure equalization and water clearance while stopping water from flooding the mask in the unlikely event of flooded Ear Covers. Mask is available with a Clear Silicone Skirt with a Black of Blue Frame. Mask comes with a User Manual and is covered by a 36 month limited warranty.

I have always had problem equalizing, with this mask I have absolutely zero problems equalizing! I have been to an ENT, had a CT scan, everything, this mask is the ONLY reason I can dive. Forget the vented ear plugs, this mask works hands down!!! The fit is great, once you get used to having the ears "cupped" it takes ZERO effort to equalize. I will buy another as a back-up in the future, this is the best piece of gear I own hands down, THANK YOU PRO EAR!!! This is a must buy!!!!

Comments about IST Pro Ear Two Window Mask:

I dive roughly 3 or 4 days a week for my job. After a few years of doing this I would get repeated ear infections and have trouble clearing. I have used this mask for just shy of two years now and have never had trouble clearing or any ear infections since. I have tried a multitude of other products in the industry and this one works. The first few times it will feel odd and might leak but I found that was more do to user error than product defect. The more you wear it the more you will understand the best spot to seat the ear cups for a no leak seal. I now dive every day with no leaks. The mask itself sits very well on my face and I perfer over 2 other high end masks I own. Amazing mask- going two years strong with great results. I could not do my job without this mask.

Comments about IST Pro Ear Two Window Mask:

Bought this mask for my fiancé to use while certifying for open water diving. She has had multiple ear drum surgeries as a child and was very nervous about being able to equalize. After being cleared by a ENT that everything was fine with her ears, we decided to purchase this mask. The first time out didn't go well because we didn't read the instruction on proper usage (I'm an idiot). This mask allows for you to have equal atmosphere of pressure around your ears as you do in your lungs because the of the one way valves. The next dive was better because of proper usage. The main thing with mask is to breath slight out of your nose while descending. This made equalization a breeze. We are very happy with our purchase and my fiancé is comfortable while diving. Thanks.

I have two eardrum skin grafts which don't take wet ears well and for years used the Scuba Queen hood with two air tubes going to the regulator. The pro ear mask replaces this complicated hood perfectly, and furthermore, can also be used for free diving which I can do again.

Comments about IST Pro Ear Two Window Mask:

I've always had trouble equalizing my ears, and on my first Scuba certification dive I perforated both eardrums. I discovered this mask when I was doing research on what I needed to do in order to dive, and whether I'd be able to dive at all with perforated eardrums. This is an incredible mask, and let me dive alongside everyone I was traveling with despite my ear problems.

This is a high quality mask to begin with: I never had trouble with the glass fogging up (I did with my previous mask) and the front seals perfectly to my face. The "ear cups" are attached to the strap on either side of your head, and feel a little strange at first. The ear cups are adjustable independently of the mask strap, so most wearers should be able to tweak the settings and make it fit them well. Once you have the whole mask on, you can check the seal by inhaling: for me, the front mask sealed perfectly, but I could hear a whistling noise as air leaked into the ear cups. At first, I was very concerned about this; however, once the mask is wet and you're actually in the water, the seal is much better. When testing out the mask at home, and even when putting it on before a dive, be sure the entire mask is wet - this is the only way the ear cups will seal against your head.

As you descend on a dive, the mask will compress against your face as any mask does. When you breathe air into the mask through your nose, air flows directly into the ear cups as well. The pressure on your ears is the same as it would be with any other mask, but the adjustment happens more slowly and your ears stay dry, decreasing risk of infection. I clear my ears as I descend the same way with this mask as with any other. Because I have ear problems, I sometimes have to descend more slowly than others in my group - but this only sets me back by a minute or so, and once I get to the maximum dive depth I have no more trouble with my ears. I've taken this mask down to 100 feet with no trouble.

The seal around the ears is not perfect; I'd say it sealed completely about 80% of the time for me. The other 20% of the time, small amounts of water seep in over the course of a dive. Out of 30 dives I've used the mask on, I've never had either ear cap fill completely - the leaks are very slow when they exist. When water leaked in, it was enough to notice but not enough to bother me - I never aborted a dive due to water in the ears.

Clearing the mask: If water manages to get in, you can actually clear the entire mask, including ear cups. The main mask clears the same way a standard mask does - if you let water in and exhale through your nose to clear, no water will travel backwards through the tubes to the ears. If you want to clear the ear cups, it's a little tricky but very effective: using both hands, press the mask tightly against your face and the ear you do not want to clear tightly against the side of your head. Press the TOP of the ear cup you do want to clear against your head - then exhale slowly. You should hear air bubbling out the bottom of the ear cup you're trying to clear! I did this successfully quite a few times, as deep as about 75 feet.

This is a great mask, and I probably wouldn't have been able to dive without it. Highly recommended for anyone with ear troubles!
