About Intova Stay Slim with Flex Arm

Adding artificial light to underwater photography is the key to better Image. Having the best platform to help provide that lighting is as important as the artificial light itself. Having the ability to use an external strobe/video light can drastically improve the quality of your underwater photographs. Being able to aim that strobe/light exactly where you want it to illuminate your subject takes the use of a strobe/light arm. Inotva Stay Slim with Flex Arm is simple and universal, light arm kit consists of a 7.2" (18.3 cm) base stay with standard tripod screw and an 11.9" (30.2 cm) flex arm for mounting strobe or video lights to underwater camera housing. The tripod screw is adjustable and will fit virtually all housings using a tripod screw mount system. The versatile flex arm allows full range flexibility for variable lighting angles. The Stay is made from corrosion resistant aluminum for durability and the Flex Arm is made of corrosion proof plastic, with stainless steel mounting screws.

Good idea/flimsy implementation

By

Although I like the overall idea of a relatively inexpensive tray/arm design, implementation leaves more to be desired. Although secured to the tray with a bolt, the arm tray slot tolerances aren't nearly precise which results in arm side to side play once it is secured onto the tray. Similar experience with the 2nd arm that I got for this set up. Goes back to LP.

Worked good

By

Arm worked very well. The only thing i found wrong was the screw that holds the flex arm to the camera arm come loose a couple of times. You have to make sure you really tighten it.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
GARY S  I needed something to connect my camera with the Intova ISS Strobe head. It has worked well, but I have to check to ensure it is tight before each dive.
THOMAS B  Thought I could modify to fit my hand held light. Good lesson learned to buy exactly what is needed and fits.
Mike B  I have the Intova SS Slave Strobe with the Intova Base and Flex Arm. I am looking to maybe get the Big Blue BB1x30 an use it instead of the Intova Strobe or better yet in conjunction with it. I see a number of Big Blue accessories to mount different flashes and lights and a double and triple mount but am confused with which combination would work.what is your advice?
GARY S  I have limited experience with the Intova camera tray with flex arm. I did not use it enough to learn if the highest flash setting would provide more light or greater than 10 to 15 feet distance. I would think that more stobe or combination would provide more light and perhaps further distance.
GREG M  Hi Mike, I can't really answer your question as I am not that well versed in all the ins and out of lighting/arms, etc. I have the base and flex arm but I just mount a good underwater flashlight on it and between the light and the flash I get what I get. LOL. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you. Greg You can check out my pictures on my website roatanwallpaper
Laura R  Will this work for the Ikelite Canon S95 camera case? (Ikelite Housing #6242.95)
GREG M  Not sure if it will work for you but can give you the dimensions which may help you decide. It is somewhat adjustable. The center screw thead/size is standard so I don't believe that will be a problem. There are three separate positions (holes) the screw can go in with the widest dimension available being 4 and 3/4 inches (12 cm). My thought is that if you measure from the mounting hole (where the screw would go) to the outside edge of your camera housing and it is less than 4 and 3/4 inches it will work. Good luck. As far as quality is concerned, I am satisfied. I use it regularly with no problems. Check out my website (roatanwallpaper) for pictures I have taken with my camera equipped with this particular arm.
EDAN V  It is has the universal camera thread mount so it will absolutely work with the S95 case.
GARY S  Hi Laura, I believe the screw in the tray will fit most cameras and the only possible concern would be the dimensions of your camera case if it could be too wide to not touch the felx arm. I had some trouble with keeping every thing tight when taking out of the water storage can on the dive boat. If you check it before entry into the water is will probably work. Also mine has corroded slightly at the screw that joins the flex arm to the tray base. The result is that I have not been able to change the arm to the other side. I have not tried a lubricant to see if it will free up, but it would be a good idea to treat it with WD 40 or a silicone spray after a dive to prevent corrosion. Hope this helps! Gary
COREY M  sorry, I'm using it with a housing from Sony, made by Sea & Sea. Don't know if it will work with Ikelite.
JEFFREY P  Not sure about that case, but the bolt is the standard size of all tripod bolts. It fit my canon case perfectly and worked very well as good hand hold for underwater photos.
JOHN B  Hi Laura R, If your camera case has a female fitting on its' base. I'm sure it is universal to accept tripods and other accessories, including this flex arm. Jack
JAMES L  I got mine for a gopro camera but i would think it would fit the ikelite housing if it has a tripod screw on the bottom. If not, then no it wouldn't work.
JOSEPH M  This is a universal mount. I've used mine on several differant camera cases. Never had any issues
J A S  Laura.. I can't see the bottom of the Ikelite housing, but if there is a tripod screw (can't image there wouldn't be one), then this arm should work. I have a Fuji FD31 in its housing and this has served me well. Jay S.
JAMES S  Hi Laura, I use it with a couple of different Canon cases, but not the Ikelite. It should work ok. I had a little trouble with one case becuase the bottom bracket would not sit flush with the housing, but a few modification with a metal file did the trick. Hope that helps. Regards, Jim
STEVEN K  I am not sure specifically it will or will not work with your camera. I will tell you it is a generic mounting system that works will all of our other cameras , diving or not. If your case has a threaded receiver on it, I would be willing to bet it will work great.
LOWELL H  yes it will work with that housing set up. If you want mine I used it once in Belize. $25 shipped. 9104090132
TREVOR D  It should work with any camera or housing that has a standard tripod mount on the bottom.
