About Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix LX-5 Camera

Dive into underwater photography with Ikelite's most compact true TTL camera system. The Compact Digital housing is high quality, extremely durable, and backed by Ikelite's long-standing reputation for excellence. Housing is made of clear injection-molded polycarbonate to provide seamless construction and corrosion proof performance. This "Clearly Superior" design provides full view of the camera, control functions. All controls are mechanical, sealed with Quad-Ring seal glands and assurance the system is safe up to depths of 200' (60 meters).

Camera installation is quick and simple, and the o-ring seal can be checked visually through the clear housing. Every camera function is accessible in this very sophisticated housing except the flash open switch. Housing measures 7" wide, 5" high, and 5.4" deep (18 x 13 x 14 cm) and weighs 2.8 lbs (1.36 kg). Two 12-24 threaded mounts on the bottom of the housing allow for the secure attachment of optional trays and lighting accessories. For added protection a vinyl port cover is included and a 1cc tube of silicone lubricant.

Proprietary conversion circuitry allows two-way communication between the camera and Ikelite Substrobes providing true Panasonic TTL exposure. In addition to providing the most accurate automatic exposure, this ensures a faster recycling time and longer camera battery life as compared to fiber optic TTL systems.

Camera's Built-in Flash:
An included flash diffuser improves lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used. A built-in flash is effective from 1-3' (0.3-0.9 meters) from the subject in clear conditions. For best results an external underwater strobe is recommended.

External Color Filters:
Color filters replace some of the reds, oranges and more natural tones that would otherwise be lost underwater. Removable external color filters IK644141 for tropical blue water and IK644181 for green water settings provide color correction in sunny conditions up to approximately 80' (24 meters). For use without a flash filters sold separately. For optimum results use in combination with manual white balance (see camera user guide for information on setting custom white balance).

External Underwater Strobes (Hard-Wired TTL):
Ikelite DS series Substrobes are industry favorites for their warm, even coverage and lightning fast recycle time. Unlike fiber-optic "TTL" systems, our conversion circuitry eliminates the need for the camera's built-in flash to fire. This dramatically improves recycle time and camera battery life allowing you to take more photos more quickly. We recommend convenient and affordable strobe with sync cord packages that provide everything you need to take advantage of true TTL exposure. The IK952331 single or IK952332 dual tray and handle are required for the attachment of an external strobe. All current model DS strobes are fully compatible with this TTL system.

External Underwater Strobes (Optical TTL):
The AF35 AutoFlash kit can be attached directly to the LX-5 housing and provides automatic "TTL" exposure by optical signal from the camera's built-in flash. The AF35 is slightly less powerful than our DS Substrobes and is not able to take advantage of the housing's built-in circuitry.

External Accessory Lenses:
An external wide angle conversion lens increases angle of coverage so you can get much closer to your subject while still fitting everything in the frame. By reducing the amount of water between the subject and your camera lens, the resulting image will be more crisp and colorful. Attach 67mm threaded SKU: IK6420 Ikelite W-20, wide angle or macro lenses directly to the front of the housing port. Included with the camera housing are: 1cc Tube of Silicone Lubricant, Flash Diffuser, Flash Deflector, Vinyl Port Cover, Lanyard and Instruction Manual.

Comments about Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix LX-5 Camera:

Personally, I use a Nimar housing and it's never failed me. I used to own an Ikelite and it was o.k. What I mean by that is, it's never leaked because of cracked that appeared while in the ocean diving :/ wahh. I enjoy having a clear housing rather than an aluminum case(it's better don't get me wrong) but I clear because I can see, just in case, if my housing floods. I DO NOT want my baby to get wet.

I've heard good things about ikelite, I'm not trying talk bobo.

Comments about Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix LX-5 Camera:

If you own an LX5, get one while you can. The little Panasonic advanced compact works perfectly inside. It's easy to assemble, seals like a German U-Boat and once you get the hang of the oversized controls and hard to use zoom knob, it does the job like anyone could reasonably expect. Virtually every control on the camera is accessible and you can see what you're doing. Point and Shoot or fiddle with it to your heart's content; your choice.

Q&A

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  can you access and adjust white balance under water?
RICHARD T  Yes, white balance can be adjusted underwater for motion and still photography. You can access white balance with the "q.menu" button, select the white balance object with the "display" button and lock it in with the "menu/set" button. All are asccessible with the Ikelite housing underwater.
Shopper  is it also ok for Panasonic Lumix 3? or is there any other underwater housing for lumix 3?
Monica s  The manufacturer only specifies for the 5 not the 3. We do not have anything for the lumix 3.
