Best bit of kit I have ever bought

By ELIZABETH C.

 -  Brisbane, Queensland, AU

I bought this hooded vest to help keep me warm, both when a full wetsuit is not needed and to bump up a 3mm to a 5mm without the Michelin-man effect. Best thing I have EVER bought. Fits great, super warm and nice and light (not bulky). Do yourself a favour and buy one - you will not regret it!

Well made

By Peter S.

 -  Muldoon , TX, US

Bought this as an good and additional layer. Fits well and can't wait for cold water dive season.

There's no better way to boost warmth than to add a hooded vest to your exposure protection gear. Wear it with board shorts in tropical waters or layer it with any type of full-length suit for cold water diving. The dual-density 5/3mm design uses panels of different thickness at key locations to maximize both heat retention and diver comfort. Thermoprene's natural stretch, about 75% more than standard wetsuit material, also means that this vest is easy to slip into or to layer with another garment without feeling any uncomfortable suit squeeze.

Thermoprene material is both glued and blind stitched, which not only clamps down on water seepage, it also provides tremendous durability. All edges are finished with a Spandex trim. A revolutionary new one way flow vent purge valve, vents regulator exhaust from the hood while preventing cold water entry. This design is a Henderson exclusive and not available on any other hooded vest.

Divers seeking a great value will appreciate Thermoprene's balance of performance and price. The latest technological innovation from Henderson, this nylon 2 material delivers greater flexibility and improved features not found in standard neoprene wet suits, yet at a reasonable cost perfect for the cost-conscious buyer. Hooded Vest is available in multiple sizes and is black in color.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is the hood vented?
JEFF R  No. I own three Henderson hooded vest, a 1mm, 3mm and the 5mm you're asking about. I prefer unvented if the hood fits well. On other hoods I've punched a 1/4" dia vent hole on top to bleed off trapped air, but when too large a hood fills with air and vents, it brings in cold water that I'm trying to avoid. Good product and can easily be pulled back above or below water if you want your head exposed or want to eliminate the restriction.
DAVID J  I bought the same vest in 2015. It is vented.
CAROL S  No
MARJORY S  No
DAVID U  Yes. This vest, as well as another Henderson vest I have, both have what they call a "Flow Vent" at the top of the hood. It works well.
johnny z  what size should i choose? L? height 5'8.8" weight 194 chest 41 waist 37 thx :)
Steve S  I would recommend the size Large based on the measurements you gave.
BRUCE S  Johnny Z - I am about your size and the XL fits me nice and snug. Yes, XL. They run small.
JAMES C  get whatever tshirt size you wear. one size smalleras they stretch.
JOHN J  Guessing XL. I'm 6-1, 175-180 pounds and 32-33 waist. The large is appropriately tight on me, except slighltly loose at the waist unless I've been pizza binging. Perfect under a wet suit instead of a hood--keeps out the neck leaks.
KAREN G  I bought M for my husband and he is 5'7 about 155-160 and waist 33-34 .. he is snug fit which is good from the stand point of water does not flow through but he is not a big fan a real snug fit .. i would suggest the L
JOE G  I'm 6'1", 185 lbs and I have a large. It fits snugly. I wear it under my full wetsuit. It does a great job of keeping my head and neck warmer, plus it stops those cold jets of water from shooting down my back.
BRIAN H  This Henderson Vest, no mention of a zip ! Do you just pull it over your head ?
ANGELA C  It is a pull over
JUNE H  This is a pullover vest made of extremely stretchable thermoprene. It does not have a zipper.
JOE G  Yep, no zipper. I wear it under my regular wetsuit to keep the cold water from shooting down my back. It helps a lot.
JOHN F  Correct, there is no zipper so you just pull it over your head
WILLIAM S  Yes, your assumption is correct. Initially, I ordered an XL and it seemed to be running a bit on the small size, particularly snug in the chest and pulling it over my head. I kept it for my son, but later ordered an XXL for myself which seems comfortable. Vest was highly recommend to me by a friend and I ordered after diving the winter months in 18-19 Celsius waters in 3mm suit. (Musandam, Oman) Since purchase I have not dived with it and will not really have a chance until December. v/r Grant
ROBERT S  There is no zipper. While is should be a snug fit if it is to be effective, it is relatively easy to put on and only slightly more challenging to take off.
JAMES C  Yrs! No zip just a pullover.
DAVID R  No, there are not any zippers. You just pull it over your head. It is nice and stretchy so it's real easy to get on and off.
RICHARD M  Yes, because it is so stretchy, it easily pulls over the head. Only problem I've had is that air from the regulator goes into the hood while exhaling. This creates a buoyancy problem.
BRUCE S  That's right, Brian. Just put it on and take it off like you would a tight pullover sweater.
GERALD W  Yes, a simple pull over. Prevents any water flush through. Really helps keep you warm.
BRIAN L  Yes, this is a pullover vest.
BRIAN L  Yes, this is a pullover vest.
JON G  Yup... just pull it over your head.
KAREN G  there is no zipper, you have to pull it over your head
Shopper  Is the hood part 5mm or 3 mm?
JOE G  Short answer: Yes. 5 for the hood, 3 for the vest. Long answer: My first answer didn't seem like the right answer so I went out to the shop and go my micrometer. I doubled the hood and measured it...got 9.7mm and just under 6mm for the vest body doubled. The foam is kind of squishy, so my micrometer numbers are not accurate, I'm sure. 5/3 are the correct numbers.
JOE G  I own the hooded vest and the hood and vest feel like the same thickness to me.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
STEVEN K  Getting hard to find step-in hooded vests, so giving this a try.
PHILLIP F  It is a good complement to my leisure pro wetsuit.
SHANE H  good price and will fit my big head lol
KENNETH S  Too cold in Bohol, Philippine last week
DON H  I have loaned to several people when they were cold, they person bought one. Multi uses, by itself for warm water, with wet suit for colder water.
