About Henderson Thermoprene 3mm Kids Back Zipper Shorty, BK/Blue

Tired of lugging your child's all-purpose, full-length wetsuit on tropical dive trips? Reduce the bulk and still get the warmth and protection they need with this high-quality Child's 3 mm Thermoprene Shorty. Compression resistant neoprene retains body heat water session after water session and comes in a physique-enhancing cut that fits great. Thermoprene also delivers more stretch than regular wetsuit material, so this back-zipper suit dons quickly and comfortably.

All seams are GBS-Glued and Blind-Stitched, which further prevents water seepage and extends suit life. Creature comforts include Lycra trimmed cuffs, a spine pad with zipper seal for warmth and an adjustable collar for a more custom fit. Thermoprene is noticeably easier to don with 75% more stretch than standard neoprene, pulling over the shoulders and around the torso with less huff and puff than standard wet suits. Also, the fabric's exterior stands up extremely well to the wear and abrasions. Suit is available in 4 sizes from size 2 to 8.

Comments about Henderson Thermoprene 3 mm Child's Back Zipper Shorty, Black/Blue:

My son is 8, 50 lb, and 47 inches tall. I got him a size 4 and it fits him well. I even bought the next size up, so when he grows a bit, he can pass down the suit to his little sister. I would rather have it more fitting than baggy, which defeats the purpose of a wetsuit. If your not sure, I would go by weight, as the suit stretches beyond the height parameter. The more flexible thermoprene is definitey worth it vs. neoprene. I bought these for swimming in pools and waterparks because my children are skinny and often cold. Both of my kids say that they're warm and my daughters lips weren't blue anymore. It didn't restrict their movement at all, and infact helps their swimming because the suit is a bit boyant. I was worried it would get stuck on waterslides, but that wasn't an issue. The only downside is that the first wear, my son put the neck strap too tight and it chafed the back of his neck. It doesn't seem to be an issue with applying it looser and now that the suit has stretched a bit with additioal wears. I am glad to support a company in the USA that makes these quality suits.

    Questions about this item:

    Shopper  is it water proof?
SHARON C  We purchased one of these wetsuits for our son. I would expect any jumpsuit like this to allow some water in, but I believe that is the point. The water enters, is trapped and heated by the body, and provides another layer of insulation. So is it waterproof? Not really. But at 3mm it is thicker than most and kept my skinny skinny son very warm. We even considered a 5mm thick suit, but then you start to lose mobility because it can be too thick, especially for the younger set. I heartily recommend this wetsuit to keep a child warm, especially if the child, like mine, was refusing to enter the water while only wearing regular swim trunks. Also keep in mind that it resembles the thinner Lycra wetsuits worn by many boogie boarders, so there is a "cool" factor involved - as opposed to looking unusual or silly (even at a sleep away camp). Finally, when compared to a pair of swim trunks, I believe it also increases the child's buoyancy a bit (but of course it should not be used in place of a life preserver).
