Hollis told me that i do not need this for a single on the sms100 to run singles. so which bcd is this for?
JOE S
This Single Tank Adapter would work for back plates and wings. Although you can weave the cam bands through the harness on the SMS100, this will work and keep the tank a little more stable. Without it, the tank just rests on the canvass and you may feel a slight movement. The SMS100 works well either way.

I can confirm that you do not need this to use a single on the SMS100...it actually doesn't even fit the SMS100.
I think this is more for their modular harness systems like the H.T.S.

The SMS 100 is a side mount configuration and the single tank adapter is used for backplate and wing configuration bcd

You can probably get away with not using an STA on that side-mount plate, but the tank might flop around a bit...or it might not. Try it without and see what happens. If you don't like the way it feels I'd suggest using the STA. Sometimes I use one, sometimes I don't. It depends on the wing. Some come with built-in stabilizers, others don't. Even if they do have built-in stabilizers they don't, in my experience, work all that great. Just depends on how finicky you are with the feel of the mount. BTW, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, or know someone that is, you can make an STA for a fraction of the price charged by these guys. It's just a piece of stainless steel or aluminum with two bends and a few machined slots.

You can use it with their S series BCD's. They say you don't need it because it comes with a single tank adapter. It's only about 4 in. In length and made out of condura. Check out the back of a Hollis S38 to see what I mean. Honestly I found it to be useless and bought the steel single tank adapter and am so much happier. My guess is the SMS 100 is similar in that they say you don't need it and is probably true but you might be happier with one.

This is for a backplate and wing system, the way the majority of tech divers dive. Backplate and wing are the best systems for both tech divers and recreational divers, it's a safer system and helps divers maintain trim. It's also a scale-able and modular system, this is the piece that attaches the backplate and the wing to each other and to the tank.
DOUGLAS N
That is correct. You do not need this to hold a single tank on a SMS100. It is mainly used on back plate systems with your choices of harness, plate, and bladders.

This will NOT work with double tank backplate/wing setup (obviously, the slots are for two cam-bands and the tank would rest against the open rails).

Carlos, the sms 100 bcd is for side mount configuration only. You need this single cylinder mounting plate when you are using a backplate cylinder configuration with wings. I hope this help. Regards, Gustavo

This STA will work with virtually any (single tank) backplate & wing setup.

These are used for backplate/wing combos that are typically have large wings used for doubles.
