About Hollis DC1 500SE Regulator with Maxflex Hose

The Hollis DC1 First Stage Regulator is now available with the advanced technology of the Hollis 500SE Second Stage. The Hollis DC1 1st Stage Regulator is an over-balanced diaphragm regulator design that provides progressively greater intermediate pressure as depth and gas density increases for superior gas delivery under the most extreme conditions. The diaphragm membrane transmits the pressure changes to the internal mechanism eliminating the need for the surrounding water to enter the intricate mechanism. The benefit of this type of first stage design is that none of the internal parts are exposed to contaminants such as salt, sand, chlorine or pool acids. These environmental contaminants cause corrosion and mineral deposits to form on the internal mechanism deteriorating regulator performance. The standard diaphragm regulator does allow water into the mainspring camber so that the diaphragm can perform this transmission of pressure changes.

With the DC1 there is a secondary environmental diaphragm membrane that seals off the spring chamber keeping the first stage completely sealed off from the environment adding a second layer of corrosion resistance and the environmental sealing prevents icing of the first stage, allowing the regulator to withstand the rigorous CE standard for cold water performance.

The first stage has 5 low pressure ports (LP) with 3/8" threads and 2 high pressure port (HP) with 7/16" threads. The LP ports are mounted on a swivel turret that allows for ideal low pressure hose routing. One low pressure Port points directly down from the first stage providing easier hose routing for back mounted double, side mount cylinders or even for recreational divers. The DC1 First Stage Regulator is manufactured from marine grade chrome plated brass and is Nitrox compatible to 40% out of the box.

Old School, New Tech, the new 500SE Utilizes a Servo Controlled Valve to provide precision airflow and unparalleled performance for both AIR-and-TRIMIX Divers in a side exhaust configuration. To achieve this, Hollis Gear has perfected the original "lever-servo valve" they designed 35 years ago. The smallest, gentlest inhale starts the servo valve working as air starts to flow into the second stage it creates a vacuum behind the diaphragm, drawing it inwards and quickly opening the valve further. Air flow is increased by allowing it to flow through multiple valve ports rather than a single port.

This pneumatically balanced regulator has a large soft purge cover for easy clearing of the regulator, patented orthodontic mouthpiece for comfort and reduced jaw fatigue. Regulator is easy to disassemble without the use of tools and even underwater if necessary. Regulator can be configured for left-or-right positioning, no upside down. The obvious feature of the side exhaust configuration is that bubbles don't get in a diver's face when they exhale. Recreational divers and especially underwater photographers will appreciate that. Regulator is made from impact resistant plastics, stainless steel and chrome plated brass with silicone rubber components. The regulator system comes with a 30" (76cm) Maxflex hose. The Maxflex hose is a lightweight, flexible, braided hose designed to outperform and outlive traditional rubber hoses. The hoses flexibility further reduces jaw fatigue. Regulator comes with an owner's manual.

Returned Item

Right out of the box both first and second stages made noise, and second stage was slowly leaking air. Not worth dealing with getting it tuned to use. Should work right out of the box. Returned item for a Sherwood.

Expect to rebuild the first stage upon arrival

By

from Pompano, FL, US

I bought this regulator in DIN. The first shipped and "honked" from the second stage on the first dive. I called, they couldn't authorize service. i sent it back, and they provided a replacement 2 weeks later. Same problem on arrival Rather than risk a 3rd attempt, I went to a local authorized Hollis repair Dealer. They rebuilt the 1st stage for $50, and works great now.Note they also replace an o-ring in the first stage, outside of the standard rebuild to stop the "honking". It breathes easy and I really like the side exhaust. Just expect the inconvenience and expense of the rebuild.

No upside down

By

Since there is no top or bottom; it is easy to use this as a reg on a side-mount, stage, or deco bottle much more flexibly than a standard shaped reg. Also is great at keeping bubbles out of your field of view.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

B C  Anyone have issues with freeflow at the surface? I have read a little about this being an issue.
KEVIN F  We have not heard any official complaints of excessive freeflow issues.
B C  Is this a valid regulator pairing? The Hollis Manual shows that the 500se should be paired with a DC7 first stage only.
Amalio Jose B  I bought it and I have taken a disillusionment, since the DC1 has problems that skips the chrome an answer to this question.
B C  I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please clarify?
Amalio Jose B  DC1 is not a good product
BRUCE L  I have the DC1/500SE combination, and have conducted about three dozen dives with this setup, all without a glitch or problem. It delivers air as flawlessly at 20 feet, as it does at 100 feet. And so, the issue of presumed "pairing" problems is actually a "non-issue" for me.
Stephano D  I assume they say that because they cannot guarantee the performance stated if someone decides to pair it with a lesser first stage. The 500SE has a standard threaded connection so it will physically fit on any standard first stage.
