About Hollis DC1/212 Regulator with 30" (76.2 cm) Maxflex Hose

The Hollis DC1 1st Stage Regulator is an Over-Balanced Diaphragm Regulator Design that provides progressively greater intermediate pressure as depth and gas density increases for superior gas delivery under the most extreme conditions. The diaphragm membrane transmits the pressure changes to the internal mechanism eliminating the need for the surrounding water to enter the intricate mechanism. The benefit of this type of first stage design is that none of the internal parts are exposed to contaminants such as salt, sand, chlorine or pool acids. These environmental contaminants cause corrosion and mineral deposits to form on the internal mechanism deteriorating regulator performance. The standard Diaphragm Regulator does allow water into the Mainspring Chamber so that the Diaphragm can perform this Transmission of Pressure Changes.

With the DC1 there is a Secondary Environmental Diaphragm Membrane that Seals off the Spring Chamber keeping the First Stage completely Sealed off from the Environment adding a Second-Layer of Corrosion Resistance and the Environmental Sealing Prevents Icing of the First Stage, allowing the Regulator to withstand the rigorous CE standard for coldwater performance.

The First Stage has 5 Low Pressure Ports (LP) with 3/8" Threads and 2 High Pressure Port (HP) with 7/16" Threads. The LP Ports are mounted on a Swivel Turret that allows for ideal low pressure hose routing. One Low Pressure Port points directly down from the first stage providing Easier Hose Routing for Back Mounted Double, Side Mount Cylinders or even for Recreational Divers. The DC1 First Stage Regulator is manufactured from Marine-Grade Chrome Plated Brass and is Nitrox compatible to 40% out of the box. The Regulator weighs 34.88 oz (989 g).

The Hollis 212 Second Stage Regulator is a Pneumatically Balanced Demand Valve Design with a Patented Dynamic Adjustment that once set Automatically Maintains Inhalation Effort throughout the Dive by Compensating for Depth Changes. The Hollis 212 Second Stages also has an Adjustable Venturi System. This simple Dive/Pre-Dive Switch allows the diver to Adjust Inhalation Effort so the Second Stage won't Free-Flow during shore entries or long surface swims.

All Controls are Easy Grip Controls for Precise Adjustments even while Wearing Gloves. The Hollis 212 Second Stage Housing is manufactured from Durable ABS/Polycarbonate. Regulator also comes equipped with a Patented Orthodontic Silicone Rubber Mouthpiece for Comfort and Reduced Jaw Fatigue. Regulator features a 30" (76.2 cm) 3/8" Threaded MaxFlex Hose. The MaxFlex Hose is a lightweight, flexible, braided hose designed to outperform and outlive traditional rubber hoses. The Hollis DC1/212 Regulator is available in a Yoke or DIN Cylinder Connection, comes with a CD Owner's Manual and is covered by a 24 month limited warranty.

Comments about Hollis Gear Hollis DC1/212 Regulator with 30" (76.2 cm) Maxflex Hose:

I will be updating this review once I get into the practical open water dive. I have the yoke version of DC 1 212.

My most current experiences using this regulator were used in a confided pool dive at 10ft deep. This regulator does allow great effortless breathing compared to the rental regulators. I am not comparing it to higher end regulator since I have not had that experience yet. I was amazed on how easy it was to breathe after adjusting the valves! I am quite particular on use of regulators because of a previous bad experience that I had with the rentals. The dive experts online at Leisure Pro recommended that I try the Hollis DC 1 212. They have said it is comparable to the higher end regulator. I was not disappointed at all!!! I believe you will not be either.

In regards to the whistle or overflow issues: My regulator did not have major "whistle" and/or "over flow" problems that others were referring to in reviews. At one point I did feel a slight whistle before going into the water. The only time I had the over flow was that I had setting on too high plus did not keep regulator facing down to stop it. Both problems were solved after making slight adjustments both valves on second stage regulator. If problem continues then it is suggested to have it checked by a dive shop.

Comments about Hollis Gear Hollis DC1/212 Regulator with 30" (76.2 cm) Maxflex Hose:

Have owned 3 of these regs. 2 Din 1 yoke. All have had the whistle problem detailed by others in shallower water. I am very disappointed with the product and the customer service from the OEM when my LDS tried to work with the reg to eliminate this problem as well as a part defect found on my first dive. It took over a year of waiting for the repair part before they finally sent a new reg to replace the problem component. When I finally got back in the water with the gear, it still whistled away the whole dive.

I sold the yoke weeks after the first use and the DINs are now headed down the road too.

So bummed about what I thought would be a great reg combo.

Comments about Hollis Gear Hollis DC1/212 Regulator with 30" (76.2 cm) Maxflex Hose:

The GOOD: I've only used it twice (4 dives) and it truly delivers air effortlessly. You don't feel the tension from a rigid hose with the max flex; it's practically un-noticeable. Easy to purge and adjust with a nice sized purge valve and adjustment knobs w/Venturi switch. Turret is awesome!!! 5th port allows for greater hose routing.

The BAD:On the deep dive (120ft) in warm water, it perform great, but on the shallow dive, the 2nd stage hissed like a dull whistle when inhaling. I had to adjust the Venturi and flow valve to make it stop. It didn't affect performance, but got irritating after a while. I was finally able to make it stop, but had to control my breathing as well. This hissing was confirmed on 2 other shallow water dives. You have to keep adjusting the valves to make it stop.
