About Fantasea 5201 RedEye Filter G10/G11

You bought a new camera and an underwater camera housing to go with it. You couldn't wait to go diving and start photographing the exotic marine life, but now you are back above the surface the results aren't quite what you were expecting. If so, you are not alone. Looking for an affordable solution to enhance the colors of your underwater photos and videos? Get a Red Filter for your Housing!

The best way to enhance your underwater photographs and videos is by using an external light source*. However, since underwater strobes and video fill lights can be relatively expensive, you might choose to use a Red Filter in order to enhance the color in your underwater images, especially when photographing in shallow water and when external light sources are not available.

"Wet" Red Filters are lens accessories that fit onto the housing's lens port andcan be installed and removed during the course of the dive. Filters are manufactured from an acrylic material with an anodized aluminum body for durability and long life. Water acts like a blue filter which diminishes the vibrant colors of the tropical sea. When installed on the housing's lens port, ared filter compensates for the loss of red color in your underwater photographs and videos, thereby enhancing your images and revealing your subjects' true colors.

Red Filter for the Canon G10 and G11 Housings (WP-DC28 and WP-DC34) which fits over the housing's port. The Red Filter is used to restore the red color absorbed by the water. In shallow depths, these filters can serve as an attractive alternative to artificial light sources

The photo shown on the website is VERY misleading - this thing is a huge piece of equipment with 4 bungee-type cords with clasps coming off each corner of the unit, and the actual filter sits inside of it!! They really need to more accurately describe it and change the photo so the consumer knows what they are getting. I sent mine back immediately after calling them....

Comments about Fantasea 5201 RedEye Filter G10/G11:

This is the worst design I've ever seen! It is a large plastic plate with a separate red insert secured to the housing by bungee straps.

I had the "old style" of this filter until I lost it in Belize last month. It slipped over the end of the housing and was awesome! Why was this filter redesigned??? It worked perfectly & now it sucks!!!

I'm sorry to say I invested in this filter. Disappointed that I was unable to find reviews online, I feel obligated to warn other divers of how genuinely useless this product proved itself underwater.I used this with the Canon G12 and the simple truth is that the adjustable white balance in manual mode or the automatic colour corrections while in automatic (Underwater Scene Mode) are already compensating and doing this job for you. Adding a fixed amount of additional red colour is an impractical and artificial looking solution to a camera of this quality, and I highly recommend investing your [...] somewhere else. The only pro that comes to mind is that it's easy to remove during the dive, which means it was also easy to compare with & without pictures afterwards under identical conditions, which is how I came to my conclusions.
