About Dive-Rite Aluminum Back-Plate, Black Anodized

Greg Flanagan first invented the metal back-plate using aluminum in 1979 for North Florida cave divers He realized that a back-mounted buoyancy system gives a diver natural balance in the water, due to the diver's center of gravity (tanks) being surrounded by the center of buoyancy (BC wings) Plus, the diver gains a clean chest area with room for gear attachment points on the harness Bill Hogarth Main went on to popularize the back-plate and harness and dive purists who follow the DIR philosophy have come to embrace what is known today as the "Hogarthian Rig "

Dive Rite began manufacturing Back-Plates for the public in 1984 and pioneered 11" (27 9 cm) On-Center Bolt Spacing creating an Industry Standard that is still followed today Sturdy, yet lightweight, the Black Anodized 5052-Aluminum Back Plate is Ideal for Twin Back Mounted Steel Tanks since additional Weight from the Plate is Minimal The 11" (27 9 cm) On-Center Holes accommodate Standard Double Tank Bolt Kits

Holes along the Perimeter of the Plate allow for Mounting Lights, Pony Bottles, Lift Bags and other Accessories 1" and 2" (2 5 and 5 1 cm) Slots along the bottom of the Plate permit diver's choice of Crotch Straps Two 3/8" (9 5 mm) Slots along the Bottom are designed to fit Screws for attaching Lift Bag Sleeves, Side Mount Butt Plates or other Accessories 2" (5 1 cm) Slots along the Center allow Single-Tank divers to use Cam Straps without a Single-Tank Adaptor All Edges are De-Burred to Eliminate Sharp Edges and Prevent Abrasion to Harness Webbing The Back-Plate measures (H x W) 15 5" x 10 5" (39 x 27 cm), weighs 1 5 lbs (680 g), comes with a 12 month limited warranty and is proudly made in the U S A

Comments about Dive Rite Dive-Rite Aluminum Back-Plate (1034):

My stainless backplate was too heavy when used with my steel tanks after reacently losing some weight, the aluminum plate saves 4lbs yet still provides the stability and benefits of a backplate for those who prefer that style BC

      Verified Buyer

      Pros

      • Good Value

      Cons

      • Strap slots - sharp edges

      Best Uses

      • Travel - light weight

Comments about Dive Rite Dive-Rite Aluminum Back-Plate (1034):

I combine it with a Venture Wing and Basic Harness for use as a light weight travel BCD.
Can't beat the price, but it did require some work to finish the sharp edges of the strap slots.
