About Citizen BJ2004-08E 200 Meter Eco-Drive Aqualand Chronograph Stainless Steel with Gold Diving Watch

Citizen Eco-Drive is fueled by light, it never needs a battery Eco-Drive it's unstoppable Eco-drive technology harnesses the power of light from any light source Both natural and artificial light are absorbed through the crystal and the dial, than a special solar cell converts light and stores it as energy the cell recharges continuously in any kind of light It runs for at least two months even in the dark

The Aqualand Chronograph has a 60-day power reserve, with a two day advanced lowcharge indicator and is accurate within +/- 15 seconds per month Watch charges in both sunlight and indoors The watch can tell you the correct depth to 125', has a maximum depth memory that is handy for logging your dives, and a one directional rotating elapsed-time bezel for safety The Eco-Drive is equipped with a 50-minute chronograph, 12-24 hour time formats with date A time reset advisory function, water resistant to 660' (200 Meters), a screw-back case and screw-down crown with rubber wrist band and it never needs a battery All makingthe Aqualand one sought after timepiece Watch purchase includes the five year US warranty

The Aqualand Eco-Drive is an analog solar powered diver's timepiece which has anelectronic depth meter and chronograph function built in The solar power generation function transforms solar energy into electrical energy to run the watch Since solar energy is used as the power source of this watch, it has no need of regular replacement of the battery unlike the general diver's watches using the mercury cell, etc The built-in depth meter function automatically measures the depth in diving with the watch worn on the wrist The maximum depthin diving is automatically memorized The chronograph function measures the time in units of one second for 50 minutes

Fully charging the watch with an overhead office light is usually insufficient, to achieve a full charge from a completely depleted power reserve, however, office light is sufficient for keeping the watch continually charged It is recommended to use natural outdoor light, or recharge indoors with an incandescent (3,000 Lux) bulb 20" away from the watch in 18 hours, outdoors, cloudy (10,000 Lux) 5 hours and outdoors, sunny (100,000 Lux) in 2 5 hours

I got this watch 5 years ago from Leisure Pro and put it to use mostly for diving trips (about a dozen since I bought the watch). The hands are very prominent, so it's easy to tell the time at a glance. Although the depth indicator is analog, it is quite accurate as measured against the BCD computers used on my dives. The depth function does require a lot of energy to function, so be sure the watch is fully charged when you first go diving on a given day. If you plan on doing casual swimming after your dives, I suggest taking it off and letting it charge in the sun. On one diving trip, I made three long shallow dives and by the end of the day the watch showed insufficient power for another dive. This is fine for the casual diver. The trade off is that you do not have to replace the battery every 2 years, which can be costly since such changes should be done by authorized watch centers to ensure the watch retains its depth endurance. A frequent diver should probably go with a non-solar timepiece. With this watch, I'm told you can go for 20 years before the secondary cell needs a replacement.

The one-way bezel is very nice and tight, so you don't have to worry about it being moved accidentally. The band is made of a high quality rubber than feels very nice against the skin.

For the seconds display, I would have preferred another sweeping hand instead of a sub dial. The sub dial for seconds gets obscured by the large hands when entering the "5-7" position area.

Note that if your watch ever runs out of power because of insufficient light, you may need to do a reset to get it to function again. This reset is described in the manual, so don't lose it. I captured that information in a text file on my computer, just in case.

Lastly, Citizen customer service is EXCELLENT. I didn't require any servicing for this watch, but I've had others serviced and had very pleasing results. This gave me confidence to buy this Citizen watch, as service is inevitable for diving watches and important to consider for your diving watch choice. Especially if the watch has any kind of depth indicator.

Overall, it's a great looking watch. I've gotten a lot of nice comments on it. There are many hundreds of diving watch designs, but this one captures a great classic look while sporting the modern technology of solar cell recharging.

I liked the watch but after a year it leaked during a 20 foot dive. It has a 5 year warranty so i sent it back to Citizen. About a week later i was advised the warranty wouldnt cover the damage...I googled Citizen watch complaints and found many people saying the same thing ( that Citizen wont honor warranty) The cost to fix the watch was $300 more than i paid for it...I would say avoid Citizen.

The watch buttons can be activated underwater. It has o-rings to act as seals. There is a service schedule to follow on replacing the o-rings and I suggest you follow it. This is my second Eco Drive. The first got flooded while diving in Palau, but my fault as I never had the o-rings serviced. My son has the same watch which had an o-ring replacement on schedule and it is still running strong after 8 years.

Has Rolex type function with depth meter. Looks like the real dive watch. All that is needed in a free dive or back up scuba watch. My older eyes struggle with some of the smaller numbers, so being totally familiar with the watch is a good idea.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
GEORGE H  I have used the Aqualand on several hundred dives and daily for the past 4 years. It has never failed, keeps perfect time and luminous features work well. This is my primary timepiece and I would purchase another if this one failed, but that does not seem likely to happen soon.
L W  Can the button s on this watch be pressed while underwater? Either intentionally or accidentally. If the buttons could be pressed, are they o-ring sealed or magnetically actuated?
ANNE P  I am sorry, i have not used the watch to dive yet, so i cant really answer the question. I love the watch though and i had another one i purchased over 10 years ago but the bummer is when you need a battery change you must send it into the factory. The second time i had to do that they wanted as much to buy a new o ne to fix it. The instruction manual should tell you all you need to know, Which i would hope you can access online. Good luck, S
Al D  what type of crystal does this watch have?
L W  I am not sure if it is di-lithium crystal or cubic zirconian, but it powers this watch forever.
