Bare Elastek is ace with me!

By judothrow

From the moment I slid into this glove of a wetsuit, it was the most dynamic experience I've ever had wearing a wetsuit or diving in one. Easy to put on, very warm and lightweight, super stretchy and conforming. [...]. Please do buy this!

My Favorite Wetsuit

By JACOB W.

I love this suit, plain and simple. It's so, so comfortable. I wish I could wear it all the time! It's that comfortable. It holds true to a 7mm wetsuit in terms of warmth. Nothing out of the ordinary in this category. It's very easy to move in for a 7mm wetsuit, however. It feels like you are wearing a 3mm wetsuit. It stretches real nice, and allows you excellent range of motion. This is a highly recommended suit!

Questions about this item:

Shopper  What temperatrues have you used this in? What is the coldest you would personally recommend?
Ximena B  I have used the suit at 12-13ºC, for me it was it was ok for about 20 minutes. I do not recommend it at lower temperatures or longer times unless you wear another layer like a 5 or 7mm hooded vest or jacket. Also an inside lycra or fleece layer cam¡n help. I always wear a hood, gloves and neoprene socks.
KIMBERLY B  I wore it in the Galapagos in October. The coldest was 52 degrees. Most of the time it was around the low 60's and I was comfortable the whole dive. We did 3 dives per day. I do get cold easily so someone with a higher tolerance might not feel as cold. I am 5'9, 145, athletic build, 34c/d. Hope this helps.
FRANK G  The coldest temp at depth that I've experienced was 53 degrees and it was still comfortable. I could easily do 50 degrees but again that becomes an individual physical tolerance.
NICHOLAS R  This is my wife's suit. She has been comfortable in waters in the low to mid 50's. The suit seems to be well made, but we had to trim the inner cuff seals as they were too tight.
CHRISTINA W  I dove in this for a week long boat trip to Big Sur. The water temp ranged from 46 to low 50s. I dove several dives a day. I was fine. By the end of the trip, the dry suit wearers were jealous of my light and easy rig. at about 46 degrees, I start thinking -- on a repetitive dive -- maybe I should bring out my dry suit. But I have not actually used my dry suit since I bought this. Awesome suit. Amazing price. I love it.
STEVEN F  I use the men's version of this suit to cave dive in Mexico where the water temps average about 74 degrees Fahrenheit and I never even get cold. This suit would be comfortable with temps to the upper 60's I imagine
LOREEN P  The coldest temps this has been used with were 55 degrees F. Not recommended though since bare skin (face, neck hands, feet) is prone to hypo still. Anything above 72 degrees and you will need to flush (open the neck) with the water you are in since it gets warm and holds heat.
TANYA S  This is my 'Gilboa Quarry in June' suit :) I've worn it down to 57 degrees with a hood, gloves and thick boots. It's most comfy around 62 and up.
JESSICA T  If there are no ankle zippers how are you supposed to put on booties? I usually put them under the suit so they.
Ximena B  Samantha, actually is kind of uncomfortable to put the booties. Here is what I do. As the suit has an inner cuff, I keep the inner cuff in contact with the skin, then I put the bootie, and over the bootie I put the outer ankle cuff, so everything forms a "three layer" union.
READY D  I would buy a wetsuit that has ankle zippers. No sarcasm intended.
SEAN C  My wife and I both have this suit. We put the boot over the inner ankle cuff and then pull the outer part over the boot. Same with the cuffs on the arms with gloves. Makes a very good deal
David P  I've never been a fan of wet suits with ankle zippers. To me, it just allows water to get in. The way that I usually do it: put my booties on first, put a strong plastic bag over my booties and it will slide right through! Trust me, the zipper approach isn't all that great. I prefer an amazing seal rather than that added convenience.
ANDREA R  This suit has two layers around the ankles and wrists. When I had this suit, I put the bottom layer (the silver Glideskin) inside my boots and the top layer over the outside of my boots. This keeps water from entering and leaving the suit. It's very warm if you wear it this way. I had no issues stretching the wetsuit over my boots.
THAIS W  Samantha Oi! I leave over the booties over. Right now I only have a 2-3 ml booties. I haven't found a thicker bootie that I like. I bought the suit for Catalina and my bootie worked for me. Thais
LOREEN P  No zippers. Suit sits at above ankle bone so you'd put your booties on after.
HUI N  How durable are the knees on this suit?
TANYA S  Pretty durable. I'm a Dive Master and work with students frequently in the quarry for training dives which means I'm kneeling in it quite a bit more than what would be normal. I bought mine in 2012, the knees still look new. Hope this helps!
GAYLE A  Hi Natalie, I have had no wear show up on the knees but I don't crawl around on the rocks either. I mostly dive warmer water so this is not my most frequently used suite. I like the suite though. Hope this helps. Gayle
Todd s  My wife has the suit and it is a pretty solid build. The knees seem to be well protected, i guess it depends on the punishment you are going to give it. They are reinforced, but not bullet proof
READY D  I am sorry I ended up wearing a different wetsuit for my stream surveys, so I can't answer your question.
Erica W  I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?
AMANDA P  regular neoprene wetsuits felt too constricting and tight, so Leisurepro recommended this one. I have had it 5 years or so, no complaints.
DAVID O  It was rated as one scuba diving magazines top wetsuit picks in that mm the year we bought it - it is toasty warm but very bouyant
JULIE P  I had knee surgery and needed a suit for aquatic rehab that was easy to get into. It is very easy to put on and take off, but the neck is a bit too tight for comfort. I got a Titanium, which is the same material and the neck doesn't fit as tightly, and I use that suit a lot more. Hope this helps you make a decision.
JENNIFER P  I live in Wisconsin so the water is cold! My biggest concern was warmth. This meets those requirements. Its not at bulky as a two piece but its just ad warm The seals are great. It fits well and I'm able to move.
TAMARA T  Actually I went with the Bare brand because I volunteer dive at an aquarium and they have an agreement with their affiliated dive shop that all the volunteer divers wear Bare wetsuits. However, I am extremely happy with this suit. It is very easy to put on, and has extra rubber seals in the arms and legs that keep the warm water in. Also, it doesn't snag like the super-stretchy wetsuit I previously bought from another company. I would definitly recommend it and I will buy Bare wetsuits in the future.
COURTNEY H  Price, appearance of the suit and great customer reviews... the stretchiness is good, and yet it keeps you warm in cold water. Other people had claimed stretchiness in some other manf suits compromises the warmth of suits, but not in this one.
GAIL S  I bought this suit because I dive in the Hawaiian islands and needed a warmer wetsuit for winter. I was also looking for one that was more flexible and less bulky than traditional 7mm suits. I had the Bare 3mm, which I used with a vest and hood, and I liked it a great deal. The 7mm suit has done well. The first few times down, as with any 7mm suit, were a bit of a struggle, but then it was great. I am an Open Water Instructor and I use the suit daily. It is holding up well so far and I would recommend it to others.
MICHAEL W  Bare has a really accurare size chart . My wife and I both have Bare suits and they fit really well. They are comfortable and gives good range of motion. The price also played a part in my decision
RICHARD D  I purchased this for my wife after I bought one for myself. It was on sale and I really liked the fit of mine. Very comfortable and it's "shaped" like a body is giving it a "fits like a glove" feel. My wife loves hers and sez it's the best fitting wet suit she's ever had! We dive in 50 deg water in the winter and it keeps us warm!
PETER M  My wife is hard to fit and this had the best elasticity.
TODD S  I bought it for a friend. It is very stretchy and very comfortable and very warm. She uses a Elastek hooded vest underneath and it keeps her quite warm in puget sound (as cold as 38 degrees in the winter).
NICOLE D  This suit was recommended to me and I'm so glad I went with it. This is such a comfortable sui, I love it. I'm one who gets cold easily so I was more than happy to wear it through April last year. The only thing I would warn about is the neck seal, if you dive very frequently, you may want to wear a rash guard underneath because it may rub.
JACK A  Hi erica. My wife already had a bare wetsuit for warmer diving. Knew the brand fit her well. She is about 5'4 130 lbs with a large bust Easy to get on
MICHELLE M  Fit is perfect and the thickness is excellent for the frigid waters of the northwest coast. Daughter has been very happy with it and I was very happy with the price!
RICHARD K  My wife liked the color and it fit great. It has been a great wetsuit and she uses it to dive in Southern California in water down to 53 degrees or so.
JANNEKE L  I bought this wetsuit (10 tall) because I am very tall, quite slim and have a narrow waist. I am 5'11, weigh 150 pounds and my waist is 28". I am quite athletic build, no big breast, or hips. Other brands like Cressi, Mares or Pinnacle are too short for me (especially my long legs) and are way too wide around my waist! the last being very important to keep the cold water from flowing in and out. I can never buy a smaller size wetsuit from the other brands as my upper legs are quite developed and other wetsuits are too tight. BARE is the only brand I fit. It fits me very well, legs could even be a little longer, but this is all I can wish for. The neoprene is very stretchy so quite easy (for a 7mm) to get on without help. I get cold all the time so I use it from 86 - 62 F. In colder water I put a thick hooded vest under it to prevent cold water from leaking in. The legs and sleeves don't have zippers by neoprene seals, a little harder to pull over your feet or hands, but water will stay out for sure. If you buy the normal length one, I would advice it to someone with my same/similar build. It's a great wetsuit, just wish they had it in a semi-dry hooded version, then it would be even better. I would advice it to anyone.
DARRYL W  Bare has awesome customer service, they really stand behind there products. And my girlfriend purchased this suit and loved it,so I bought one.
Shopper  Does this suit have ankle zippers?
LeisurePro S  No, there are no ankle zippers on the Elastek models.
