Comments about Big Blue VL1800M 1800 Lumens LED Photo Video Light:

I bought this light primarily to shoot video underwater and some still photos. I recently tested it in over 100 feet of water in Hawaii (night) in preperation for a long dive trip to the south pacific. It worked very well for video and brought back the color to the marine life out to about 4 or 5 feet. Its a wide angle beam 120 degrees and covered the wide screen aspect ratio of my camera fairly well. It worked for still pictures also bringing back the color though required longer shutter times and its difficult to hold the camera steady underwater. The more light you have underwater the better so I may add a second one in the future but I think I can get by with one for now. It worked well at 110 feet, no flooding and I had the brightest light of the group.

Comments about Big Blue VL1800M 1800 Lumens LED Photo Video Light:

This was the brightest lite on the boat of 19 divers. Other divers were following me on night dives saying it looked like daylight.

this product rated for 100 meters. when i took it to 95 meters it was wonderful and my videos was great, but after finish the dive I surprised that I cant open it to recharging "pressurized", then I shocked that it was flooded of salt water.

        Questions about this item:

ERic J  Looking for a light to use with my GoPro and/or just a very powerful light to use diving the sometimes not-so-clear California waters. Is this a good versatile light for those types of activities, or is it overkill. Also, can I switch out batteries between dives? Are extra batteries expensive?
Michael C  This is a rechargeable light so you cannot switch out batteries between dives. This is a very powerful light at 1800 lumens and should be more than bright enough for a GoPro camera. It also makes an excellent primary diving light.
Catherine B  I couldn't find the light on the official Bigblue website. Is it the VL1800 SELF-CONTAINED LED VIDEO LIGHT? Because the beam angle is only 73° in air, 80° in water, not 120°. Or is there a modified version VL1800M with a wider angle? Thank you!
Marilyn S  This is a newer modified version with a 120 degree beam angle.
