About Atomic Venom Mask Anti-Reflective Coating

Atomic Aquatics Venom Mask is a blending of Atomics SubFrame and Frameless Masks. It has a reinforcing internal frame that's molded directly beneath the surface of the silicone rubber skirt, like on the Subframe, yet it offers the relatively low profile of the Frameless. A single window like the Atomic Frameless, but it has a high bridge and tear-drop shape similar to the SubFrame's dual-window design. Its easy-to-use squeeze-to-adjust buckles are soft-mounted to the mask skirt, which allows flexibility in strap positioning, plus they can be folded flat for packing.

Where the Venom differs from its SubFrame and Frameless cousins is in its lens construction. While the SubFrame and Frameless lenses use Ultraclear glass, which has a reputation for optical quality in its own right, on the Venom mask Atomic uses an even higher-quality glass imported from Germany. Called Schott Superwhite glass, it allows more light to penetrate than even Ultraclear glass.

In addition the Venum ARC Mask has an Anti-Reflective Coating which allows more light to enter the mask and reduce light reflection. This makes seeing through the mask better above and below the water. Atomic Aquatics developed ARC (Anti-Reflective Coating) Technology to Reduce Reflected Light and actually Increase the amount of Available Light Transmitted to a Diver's Eyes. Theresult is a greatly Improved Transmission of 98% of Available Light, compared to a loss of more than 14% of light with standard green "float" glass used on the majority of masks on the market. Anti-Reflective Coatings or ARC" is a Multi-Layer Metal Oxide Coating Process applied to both sides of the Ultra-Clear Lenses. This allows more light to enter the mask by Reducing Light Reflections off the inside and outside surface of the lens. The Metal Oxide Coating is only a few Microns Thick.ARC will give you Clearer, Crisper Vision. You will see more Clearly Underwater and Objects in the Distance will become more Defined and Acute. ARC also Increases Contrast and Clarity, Reduces Eyestrain, Glare, and prevents Ghost Images on the Viewing Area of the Lens. ARC is an Absolute Must for Night Diving, Limited Visibility Conditions, and Underwater Photographers.

As with all Atomic Aquatic Masks the Venom has a double feathered edge silicone rubber skirt with a wide split strap design, which in combination, afford an excellent fit and seal on the face. A one-handed nose well for easy ear equalization brings the lens of the mask closer to the diver's face further increasing the field of vision. The Venom comes with a mask box has a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and a 12 month limited warranty on the buckles and mask skirt.

Best mask I have ever had

Have bought way to many masks to count over the years trying to get the perfect one. This one for me is well worth the money

Most Liked Negative Review

Great mask if you fit it.

Great mask, the glass really does make a difference. It's like the difference between looking through regular sun glasses and polarized gun glasses. But, if you have a relatively narrow face like I do, it leaks like a sieve. I liked the glass so much I tried to put up with the constant stream of water running in, but just couldn't handle clearing my mask ever 30 seconds. So if you've got the right sized head, I'd give it a 5.

Nice Lens

By

As imagined, very nice mask (for its price it should be). No Leaks, confortable and excellent fit. The only point is that in the first dives it got foggy, even cleaning with many different types of solutions. Issue was resolved only when I burned the internal part of the lens to get rid of the factory substances that were causing the issue. Now is perfect. Very bright and clear lens, good wide vision. If I would pay again 200 bucks for it? Maybe.

Perfect fit

I have been diving for 51 years and this is the finest glass I have ever looked through. The wide view on the bottom portion of the mask is a plus....great fit too.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Christina R C  I haven't purchased a mask in about six years but my Mares mask sprung a leak due to frame failure recently. I decided to purchase a high quality mask to replace what was only an adequate mask. I am a photographer so the optical glass was very important for that as well as the fact that I am getting older and my eyes can surely benefit from the additional available light and clarity of this mask.
Ashley A  How did you all preprep this mask before using it for the first time; did anyone use toothpaste?
NICHOLAS V  yes toothpaste
George T  I used toothpaste. That worked fine.I know some people burn off the film but that makes me a bit nervous.
ELOY "TORPEDO" V  Hi. The mask has an anti-reflective coating on both sides of the lens. I used the mask right out of the case with some de-fog and it works great. I chose not to use any abrasives such as toothpaste to keep from affecting the lens coating. Hope this helps.
LARRY W  I used 500 PSI mask scrub, works much better than toothpaste.
Alya I  I had this mask as well and all I did was put the chemical cleaner from Technisub everytime I used this mask and that's all about it. Works wonder.
BERNARD C  Prep it like any other mask.......plain non-grit toothpaste
BRUCE T  I was concerned about how to prep it too, particularly with the coatings, etc. I called Atomic and they said toothpaste was fine and would not damage the coatings on the glass. That's what I did and it worked fine.
Brian O  Toothpaste (not gel) , powdered laundry detergent, or any of the commercial mask pre cleaners work. DO NOT use a lighter to burn off residue or it will ruin the ARC.
JACOB S  I used a lens scrub paste that i had. I cleaned the mask 3 times and have not had any issues since. Make sure when rinsing to get all the paste off, including around the edges. I think its a great mask and hope it works for you.
MYRNA B  does this mask stop the glare from the sun for sensitive eyes?
ROSS M  Yes, the lens is very clear and guards against glare. It was too wide for my face, though. Could not keep a proper seal- even at depth.
TOM T  yes as I have used this mask in Texas ocean and sunny days.
Sergio R  Yes it does ......
Rody R  Yes, this mask is the best mask that I use in my thirty years diving experience. Rodolfo Cotto
DAMIAN P  I love this mask but I have not used it enough to answer that question. D
BRUCE T  I don't think so. The coating improves visibility underwater.
TJ F  GEt the scubapro anti glare. Half the price and better mask. Stay away from this mask.
MYRNA B  which exactly is the scuba pro I should get?
MYRNA B  which scuba pro exactly are you talking about?
TJ F  SCuba pro Spectra with mirrored lens.
TJ F  MYana I just looked on e bay and there are 3 available. Make this guy an offer of 90 dollars . He will probably sell at that price. It's a fantastic mask. As a Divemaster I recommend it to you.
TJ F  Hi Myrna, Yes it would. I sent mine back because it
MYRNA B  Why did you send it back?
TJ F  BAd fit on upper nose. Way too expensive for a mask. Don't get drawn into this please stay away. Scubapro is your choice. The Spectra is what you need trust me.
Brian O  It does reduce glare kind of like polarization with sunglasses and yields sharp resolution. The lens quality is exceptional. I love mine and use it regularly in the Caribbean. My only complaint is the design of the nose pocket makes it more difficult to equalize with dry suit gloves when cold water diving. However, it can be done. I wouldn't hesitate. It's not a cheap mask, but you'd be amazed what your missing out on using a lesser mask. I own several Atomic masks and love them.
ELOY "TORPEDO" V  It does a good job of stopping the glare. It's a great mask, very comfortable
