First of all, let me say that I'm a diehard paddle fin person. I bought a set of these for my wife so that they would be easier on her legs and ankles. Just to see the difference I went to a pool, squeezed into her fins, took a deep breath, and swam the length of the pool underwater. 20 seconds. I did this several times. It felt like I wasn't even wearing fins but I could really feel the water flowing over my shoulders. Every time around 20 seconds. Just to have a laugh, I put on my big,... stiff, paddle fins, and did the same test. 24 - 25 seconds. Yikes!! How could that be. I tried a couple more times and couldn't get close to the split fins times. Plus, I was exhausted from kicking the paddle fins and having trouble going the length on a single breath. I crammed my wife's fins back on and no hassle, no effort turned in 20 seconds again.
Did I mention that the fins I'm now rating are just like my wife's but in my size. I'm converted to these fins!! By the way, when these fins arrived, I still couldn't believe my tests so I did it again with this fins. Same results. Doesn't even feel like you have fins on, but as someone said, "your snorkel will bend."
Split fins have become the most popular style fin in diving today. Split fins in general will help with moving your legs through the water with more ease than a stiffer paddle fin. Be sure to learn how to properly kick to maximize the split fin technology and efficiency. It is a bit different than kicking a paddle fin.

I am a 62 year old male in good condition any idea what fin I should have. Split fin, regular, or what?

Split fins kick easier in ideal diving conditions. It requires that you reduce the size of your kick cycle to get the max performance and when swimming agains a current you increase the speed of your kick rather than kicking bigger or harder. If you don't think you would be able to change your kick style or you are frequently swimming against current, then a blade fin would be your better option.

James...we bought these fins about 5 years ago and they are great. They make swimming in the ocean very easy and you have a lot of power to control your direction in the water. We have used theses all over the world and take them with us if we are snorkeling or diving. We take good care of them after use and hopefully they will last for many more years. We also purchased dive boots and quick release to use with theses fins too.

Me and my husband 55 and 52 like the split thin. It’s better for people in not such good condition but also gives you better speed.
