One Excellent Dive Computer!

By Tim

I am a dive instructor with 40 years diving experience and over the years I've owned a LOT of dive computers. Simply put, this is the best. Beautiful display which is not just skin deep. All the advanced features you would want including gas mix switchs but so easy to use and understand. This computer is several generations advanced from anything on the market. On open water weekends I sometimes do 10 CESAs at a time - this computer takes care of me. In fact let a student use the computer a...

best computer i've ever had

By diveteamzissou

I'm a marine biologist and spend a lot of time underwater, day and night. I've used this computer throughout the Pacific with only occasional rinses and it has worked perfectly as advertised. Probably the best feature is the 4 button nav system, and extremely well designed software. Without using the manual at all you will be able to set this computer up in a few minutes, and reconfigure, switch units, switch gases etc underwater once again simply and without a manual. I design computer inter...

The Cobalt diving computer is the first of a new generation of computers that are easy-to-use, intuitive and easy-to-read. The menu driven display is self-explanatory at every level and can be mastered in just a few minutes. This simplicity is-in-contrast to its powerful capabilities and the many advanced user functions available to those who wish to use them. Brilliant full color Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display provides the high contrast, sharpness and brightness that can be viewed at almost any angle. Built in lithium-ion battery provides 40-60 hours of dive time and several years of service before needing replacement. Battery can be quickly recharged with the AC charger or slow-charged by plugging into the USB port of any PC.

The on-board 3D digital compass makes underwater navigation simple. Set a course and go, unlike most digital compasses, it will remain active until you choose to turn it off. The Cobalt includes a high-pressure quick disconnect that allows the Cobalt to be removed and carried separately from your regulator system. The Cobalt is a multi-gas computer that can be set for any Air/Nitrox mix to 99% O2. Up to 6-mixes can be preset for easy switching, including gas switches underwater. The dive log and planner are powerful tools that allow the easy interactive planning of almost any dive, including repetitive and multi-day diving. The logbook will store up to 600 hours of detailed dive profile's in memory. The algorithm used in Cobalt is the recreational RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubble Model) created exclusively for Atomic Aquatics by Dr. Bruce Wienke. The RGBM is designed to cover a wide spectrum of diving activities such as bounce, altitude, decompression, repetitive and multi-day. RGBM is a dual phase model that combines the dissolved phase (Haldane) and free phases (bubble). physiological factors such as age and exertion level may be input by the user. Additional settings are also provided to set the conservatism level.

The OLED display measures 2.4" (61mm) with overall dimensions of the computer (L x W x D) 6.5" x 2.6" x 1.4" (16.5cm x 6.6cm x 3.5cm) and weighing 11.2 oz. (317 g) making for a lightweight, sleek compact design. The computers quick-disconnect hose is a 5/8" (8 mm) Kevlar reinforced slim-line design with 7/16" threaded end. The Cobalt Computers operational depth is 330' (100m) with an air pressure display of 5,000 psi (344 bars). Computer has a 12/24-hour time display with date function, temperature function, is automatically altitude adjustable to 10,000' (3,048m) and can be set for imperial or metric measurements. The Atomic Aquatics Cobalt Air Integrated Air/Nitrox Dive Computer comes with a full color comprehensive owner's manual, AC charger, USB cable, USB/charger adapter and compass calibration tray.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is the battery user replaceable?
CURTIS B  No it is not user replaceable. However, the battery is rechargeable and has a long life. I have stored mine during winter months and when I start to dive, it will be completely dead. A quick charge of about an hour will restore it to a full charge. I have not had an issue with this computer and love the heck out of it.
JOE S  No. The battery is rechargeable. If that goes then it must be sent back to Atomic Service for a new battery. The unit is sealed.
JEREMIAH P  No it is not user replaceable
Shopper  Is this a Cobalt 1 or a Cobalt 2?
STEVE G  2
DAVE N  This looks like a 2 but you'd have to ask the seller or contact Atomic to be sure. I can't recall the difference in the 1 or 2. I've had my 2 for about 2 years now and LOVE IT!!!! VERY easy to use and gives you every bit of information you'd ever want on a dive and then some! The only annoyance is the alarms are quite loud and annoy other divers so I removed some that I had programmed like the 1,500 and 750 PSI alarms . . . they are long and loud . . . . If it's a 2, BUY IT!
KEVIN R  Does it have a three minute timer that comes on automatically for your safety stop?
Hunter S  Yes
KEVIN F  Yes.
GARY K  Yes. It will show you when your safety stop is approaching, and alert you at start and completion of the three minutes.
LOIS K  Yes, it does!
LOIS K  Yes, it dies.
DAVE N  Yes it does. This is a WONDERFUL dive computer!!! Buy it and ENJOY!
SCOTT F  It gives you plenty of time before your stop...had a few problems with it.... But atomic co is outstanding in fixing for free... Great item...
KELLEY R  Yes, it does! In fact it will even warn you if you require a second safety stop at a deeper depth. You can have the warning beep or silence it. The time starts at 20 and will stop if you ascend past 15 feet. The timer will resume once you descend to fifteen to twenty feet, a great feature. I hVe the older version, four years old. The updated version, which my friend dove with a few weeks ago has a larger and more visible safety stop screen. However, unlike my cobalt, the timer does not stop if you ascend past fifteen feet, which I found to be a limitation to this updated operating system. But if you can nail your stops and have good buoyancy control than this shouldn't be an issue. I just like the comfort of knowing I did a full three minutes. Love the cobalt and everyone that I know dives with one and we praise it like we assisted in its invention. You will NOT regret this investment. And it has sooooo many other useful features. So user friendly. Nice visible screens....and I need readers on land! Hope this helps.
Nelson W  Yes it does.
STEVE G  Yes when needed
CHARLES N  Yes, a timer starts and displays at 5 meters. The timer also will restart if you wander too far out of the correct depth. The display is large, colorful and easy to read.
mark s  Yes
JOHN J  Yes.
jon g  Does the Cobalt 2 Dive Computer come with quick disconnect to separate from the hose or is the hose attached to the computer?
DAVE N  This is an EASY disconnect! You end up with just the computer in your hand as you walk away from the boat or whatever - fits in your pocket. Much better than having to disconnect at the first stage and haul a computer and hose around . . . it's all built in so nothing extra to buy.
ROGER C  Yes, this does have quick connect/disconnect and is very easy to use.
Hunter S  Yes, it does come with a quick disconnect at the computer end....so you can disconnect and store in your gear bag. Great unit, I've been completely satisfied with mine over past year and 21 dives.
KEVIN D  My wife and I both have them and they both came with quick disconnect. Awesome computers. Very intuitive.
STEPHEN G  It's a quick disconnect
CURTIS B  Yes it has a quick disconnect on the console. It is a bayonet type mount that you push in and turn 1/4 turn and the base on the hose then screws up against the console and locks it in place.
BRYAN M  Mine was new. It did come with the quick disconnect hose. Not sure about a demo or used one.
CHARLES N  Quick connect is included with a new unit. You supply the hose
DAVID C  It has a quick disconnect bayonet style fitting.
STEVE G  Yes it has disconnect from hose
mark s  Yes it has a quick disconnect
mark s  Yespecially it has a quick disconnect
GARY K  I has a user-friendly and secure quick-disconnect.
RICK S  Yes it can be disconnected from the hose. Any other questions I can answer let me know
JOHN J  I have a Cobalt 1 and Cobalt 2. The Cobalt 2 is much better first off. As for the way the computer attaches to the kevlar hose. It is not a quick disconnect design. What you do is insert the hose into the computer, twist to lock it in place and screw down the outside portion to hold in place. So, as it may not be a quick disconnect design it's quick enough and only takes 10 seconds to do. Make sure tank pressure if off before attempting to put on or off.
JAY A  Yes. However, it is air integrated. Therefore, keep a backup computer with you. I had a o ring go bad on the quick connect fitting. With that said, its a great computer with everything on a single screen.
JEAN M  Is this the new version the Cobalt2? Does it come with a case? Thanks
Brian T  I was wondering what the demo / open box warranty period is and if during that period it's all inclusive?
JUNE H   The new Atomic Cobalt 2 can be found here: http://www.leisurepro.com/p-atmcblc2/atomic-cobalt-2-air-nitrox-air-integrated-computer-console-w-3d-digital-compass-qd-hose It will come with the case.
