About Catalina Pony Bottle Tanks, Yellow with Pro Valve

A pony bottle is a smaller tank, which is carried in addition to the main tank. It possesses its own regulator with first and second stage and sometimes a separate pressure gauge. It will is mounted either at ones side or in front of the body or fixed to the main tank. A pony bottle scuba tank is the only true redundant breathing mechanism you can completely rely on.

Depending on the type of diving you plan on doing will determine what capacity the redundant air supply needs to be. Leisure Pro offers five different size bottles to meet every divers requirements. If used for sport diving there are three choices 6, 13 and 19 cu ft cylinders. If deep or deep technical diving or wreck penetration or cave diving there are the 30 and 40 cu ft cylinders available.

The Pro Valve is one of the highest flow cylinder valves available today and is also a convertible valve. Whether you dive Yoke or DIN regulators this valve will work for both. Valve has easily removed 200 bar (3000 psi) DIN insert to convert the valve for use with DIN regulators. Valve has a heavy duty deign with a smooth operating mechanism and multi-ported burst disc plug for added safety.

Aluminum cylinders unlike steel cylinders don't rust, they oxidize. The oxidization of aluminum forms a protective coat that hinders the continuation of corrosion making aluminum cylinders less likely to be condemned due to excessive corrosion. When shipped the tanks valves will be removed and the tank will require re-inspection before being filled. Note: All Catalina cylinders are nitrox ready and meet certificated specifications of the US Department of Transportation (DOT) with DOT-3AL specification and Transport Canada Safety and Security (TC) with TC-3ALM specifications.

I use the Aqua Genesis as a pony bottle. I chose the 30 cubic ft size because carries enough air to get me to the surface in any of the situations I am likely to encounter. Also it is big enough to be used as a stage bottle.

The cylinder arrived being 1 year old already. I would expect 3 or 6 months but not 1 year. Moving on. The valve is a Harrison valve. The construction looks very poor quality almost like pot metal. I have reviewed Harrison valves and they seem to be a good company I hope the valve will hold up. I might just replace the valve to a more quality brand after testing. Will update review after I dive with the product.

    good tank bad valve

    By scubasteve

Comments about Catalina Pony Bottle Tanks, Yellow with Pro Valve:

The valve looks and feels cheap. I ordered two of these, one 30cf and one 13cf and both arrived with damaged/deformed valves.. However the tanks themselves are awesome and you cannot beat the price even with the garbage valve.

Comments about Catalina Pony Bottle Tanks, Yellow with Pro Valve:

I am using this pony bottle as an air source for a pre-charged pnuematic (PCP) air gun. The tank comes with the valve in a separate box to facilitate VIP. The valve is a standard K valve (Sherwood). The hydro date was 7/13 and I purchased the tank in 12/13. The tank comes with only a paste on consumer warning label.
