Catalina quality, Leisure Pro pricing, Rapid Shipment to purchaser all make for a great experience.

The heavier weight of the "Super80" is noticeable but manageable. Not recommended for a physically- challenged diver. Unit yields superior performance in a current where it's important to spread your weight load around, and not overload your trim. Extra 300 psi is a nice safety feature for those unexpected moments when you realize it's time to go and you stayed a wee bit too long. After 4500+ dives I should know.

Awesome tank

By Christopher P.

Bought my tank back in September 2019, I wanted to wait until I had a few dives before I wrote a review. Love the tank, like diving with a steel but at half the price, works just like I was hoping it would. Defiantly recommend buying one and in fact I plan on ordering another one soon.

Catalina's Neutrally Buoyant 80 cu ft (10.3 liter) Aluminum Cylinder has a working pressure of 3300 psi (228 bars) and is negatively buoyant when full -5.9 lbs (-2.68kg) and is nearly neutral when empty -0.2 lbs (-0.09kg). The advantage of a cylinder that is near neutral buoyancy at the end of a dive is that you can shed a pound or two from your weight belt or BCD pockets. Dimensionally the cylinder is the same as the standard 80 cu. Ft. 3000 psi (200 bar) 11.1-liter tank, but does not have the positive buoyancy of +4.1 lbs (+1.86kg) when empty. The Neutrally Buoyant 80 cu. Ft. (10.3 liter) cylinder has a 7.25" (18.4cm) diameter and is 25.1" (63.8cm) tall having the same diameter as a standard aluminum 80 yet, is slightly shorter than the standard 80.

Cylinder comes with a K Pro Valve, which is one of the highest flow cylinder valves available today and is also a convertible valve. Whether you dive Yoke or DIN regulators this valve will work for both. Valve has easily removed 200 bar DIN insert to convert the valve for use with DIN regulators. Valve has a heavy duty deign with a smooth operating mechanism and multi-ported burst disc plug for added safety. The K Pro Valve is nitrox compatible up to 40%.

Aluminum cylinders unlike steel cylinders don't rust, they oxidize. The oxidization of aluminum forms a protective coat that hinders the continuation of corrosion making aluminum cylinders less likely to be condemned due to excessive corrosion. So, if you want to shed the lead and use a more compact cylinder system then a standard aluminum 80 the Catalina Neutrally Buoyant Cylinder will fit the bill. When shipped the tanks valves will be removed and the tank will require re-inspection before being filled.Note:All Catalina cylinders are nitrox ready and meet certificated specifications of the US Department of Transportation (DOT) with DOT-3AL specification and Transport Canada Safety and Security (TC) with TC-3ALM specifications. Purchasers should check with other country requirements to know if the cylinders are certified for use in that country. The U.S DOT has interpreted its regulations stating that DOT-3AL (aluminum) SCUBA cannot be charged with oxygen enriched air to a service pressure greater than 3000psi.Thus, Catalina Cylinders 3300psi compact SCUBA cylinders cannot be charged with oxygen enriched air as mandated by the DOT. For more information on this matter please contact Catalina Cylinders.

This product can only be shipped to U.S. and Canada addresses.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Debbie w  Can these tanks be used with Nitrox??
MARK B  Yes, when you receive it it will not be ready to dive. Take it to your local shop for a VI. Let them know you will be diving nitrox and they will set the tank up properly.
Debbie w  Thanks, Mark....how much is a VI??
MARK B  It depends on where you go. It shouldn't be much more than $30 with a fill. It will be more than normal since they have to set it up for nitrox
BLAINE R  yes
Debbie w  Thank you
john h  Do you have a diagram and size for the O ring on the tank below?
YAN G  No, we do not. The standard size is # 214. That should help.
john h  Thank you Frank that works and what I need to know. John
Shopper  Catalina's website warns that enriched oxygen should not be used on tanks greater than 3000psi. And yet it says here this tank at 3300psi is nitrox ready. Can you explain this contradiction?
YAN G  It has to do with the DOT ruling regarding 3AL cylinders: "The U.S DOT has interpreted its regulations stating that DOT-3AL (aluminum) SCUBA cannot be charged with oxygen enriched air to a service pressure greater than 3000psi. Thus, Catalina Cylinders 3300psi compact SCUBA cylinders cannot be charged with oxygen enriched air as mandated by the DOT. For more information on this matter please contact Catalina Cylinders." Mandated per DOT. But is it done? Yes.
John S  Frank, I am confused. I bought 2 of these (not used yet) and just ordered 2 more. Will dive shops fill them with EAN if I take it in there? I read Catalina's page and it says I can't get EAN in them. So if I do get a dive shop to fill it, do i need to tell them to stop at 3000psi? Or should I send these back and get a steel tank to avoid the positive buoyancy? Thanks
YAN G  You would have to inquire with the individual dive shop that you want to fill them. Each one handles these rules differently. If you send them back, you would have to pay for the shipping. We do have a 60 day return policy for refund, as long as the item has not been in the water.
KENNETH H  It has to do with Thermo valves produced between August 2000 and July 2002! I run nitrox up to 40percent!
DANIEL F  How does the weighting characteristics change with this tank? Is the metal thicker throughout or is there excess aluminum at the bottom of the tank?
Timothy A  Dan, good question. It isn't "bad," but it isn't steel either. It doesn't feel like it. I don't know. A steel tank dive is a steel tank dive. You start negative, you end negative. I wish that I could answer you question from having cut one in half, but my impression is from diving with the thing.
RYUIJIE D  Not sure how to answer that question. I bought it for my dive buddy and she loves it . Had to have a visual inspection and the valve installed and it is a quality product.
Steve R  the valve that comes with this tank, can the plug be removed for a DIN set up, or do i have to purchase a DIN valve? thank you
CARL K  Yes on the Din, that is how I use them, great for sidemounts
DAVID G  Yes, the plug may be removed from the valve for DIN operation.
KENNETH H  Yes, removable insert makes it Din/yoke! I bought two and set them up as twins! I love this setup! Beware some scuba outfits can't get to full capacity "3300 psi" to get full 80cf
MARK B  The valve is set up for both. As you asked yes there is a plug that can be unscrewed with an Allen key for a DIN valve
YAN G  Yes, a Pro valve is a DIN/K valve. When the insert is removed, it becomes a 232 bar DIN valve. Leave it in, and it functions just like a standard K valve.
