About Ratchet Dive Reel, Yellow

In the early days of Cave Diving, Reels were not available to buy off the shelf. Divers used anything they could, including Empty Electrical Wire Spools. When Exploring, Divers would Pay-Out the Line and if they didn't Empty-the-Spool it would be left in the Cave for the Next Dive. Aqua's Ratchet Primary Reel is a Large Diver's Reel designed for Cave and Wreck Diving. The Reel is available with 2-Line Lengths of 140' or 250' (42 7 or 76 2 meters).

This Unique, High Impact and Corrosion Resistant Plastic Reel is Extremely-Durable and feature a unique, Thumb-Operated, Ratchet Lever Line Payout Design. Press the Lever and the Spool allows Line to Pay-Out, Stop Pressing and the Ratchet Lever Stops Spool from Turning. Reel is equipped with Strong and Durable Line that has a special Braid capable of holding a maximum 176 lbs (80 kg) of Dry Weight. To attach the Reel to your Equipment, Reel has a Chrome Plated Bass Spring Loaded 360 - Swivel Gate Clip and a Durable ABS Plastic Handle. The Reel Position the Handle On-Top, which helps Divers who use a Handheld Light to hold Both-the-Light-and-the-Reel in One-Hand, Freeing the other Hand to Work the Reel.

The Ratchet Dive Reel, Yellow is commonly used for Cold Water, Extreme Depths, Recreation, Warm Water and more. Great Reel at a great price. I did remove 1/3 of the line on one reel and found it worked better that way. Don't worry there is plenty of line for a shark tooth hunt. I bought one for me and one for son. I really like the thumb lock. Much easier that other models I've looked at. I'll buy again if I ever wear this one out.

Line tangles easy. This could be a good product with some work. The line tangled and I had to wait until I got home to get it untangled. The sides are not high enough and the spool spins to easy. Needs higher sides or less line and a way to control the speed of the spool. Would also reccomend a knob instead of a screw head so the spool can be removed more easly if the line does tangle.

i attatch this to the handel on my scooter to send up marker float, works very well. i have the 250' spool cap.140'smaller spool would be better.opps my fault. bigger isn't always better. so i ordered the smaller one also.only time & use will tell the quality of the plastic used.

Comments about Aqua Ratchet Dive Reel, Yellow:

Unfortunately, I bought this reel for my wreck diving excursions. However, right away it was obvious the sides of the line casing are not high enough. This leads to bird nesting like no tomorrow. It also has a very small and flimsy spring which is used to retract the locking arm. However, if you hit the water just right, you'll bend this spring and it will stop retracting. All in all, the price should clue you into the quality of the item. Now to buy a _real_ reel.

Comments about Aqua Ratchet Dive Reel, Yellow:

Great concept and easy to use, however not well made. Mine fell apart during a wreck dive (reel broke off while reeling), broke only after a few uses. Poor materials/cheap plastic. Not recommended for use in technical applications (wreck or cave diving). Okay for use during S&R or deploying SMB.

    Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
CHARLES F  I use it when I drift dive the one time we were on a drift dive and the current was very strong flying along the guide pop his green marker and it did not work it was ripped, so i took out my green marker and hooked it to my reel sent the green marker and took over the guide spot, I'm not a show off , just trying to keep all of us save and keep having fun it all worked well
Robert L  I have a crazy question. How much weight will the line hold? Does this have a quick release to allow the reel to run free?
CHRISTOPHER P  YEs has quick release just hold the button open. No idea about weight the line will hold but it's huge. You could probably anchor a small boat with it!!
    Shopper  Where is this made?
OSCAR T  No idea where was made, but is not the best reel, is not durable and bulky you can invest a little more for safety, specially for cave diving.
