Know the trick, make it work.

This is the most positively reviewed signal device on LP for a reason. I purchased this as a last ditch effort to signal my dive buddy. Eight other products were inadequate, as we always wear dry hoods when diving the Arctic ocean. It works very well if you know the 'trick' which is to never hold the cylinder of the unit while using it. Instead, slide your finger through the split ring on top and give it a shake, or pinch the split ring with your forefinger and thumb then rattle the unit....

Too heavy for air travel

Works great, just too heavy to pack, I've got other things more important that take up the weight

Good product

from San Fernando , West Indies , TT

Very good product, sound carries well under water. Also easy to attach to bcd.

No so noisy

from philadelphia, PA, US

i bought this for a warm water dive and on land it is loud enough and great under water where sound carries I could barely hear it and it was useless. We left it at our dive location and I will try and get a different style for the future.

Love It

from Dallas, TX, US

Compact, tucks away until needed. Doesn't make an annoying jingle bell sound when not in active use. Not as loud as some noise makers but works for my purposes. I've experimented with two other kinds and this one is great.

Best product

from Fullerton, CA, US

I've been diving for 40 years and used many different signaling devices. Many of them had some kind of problem. I did not like the air integrated devices ( It's too expensive and all of them stopped working after 4 - 5 years). When I tried H2YO, I was very surprised by the clear sound this tiny device can produce. It is not loud, but it is so clear you can hear from 30 feet. So I bought another one for my buddy and the sound was even better. They must changed the ball bearing material. Do not waste your time and just get this. I tried almost every devices in the market and this is the most effective. It doesn't float, it is tiny and maintenance free. The paint was worn out at the edges after 4 years but still ringing.

Best Underwater Noisemaker

I needed a signaling device but didn't want it attached to my air source. This works great. I've had it for years. My only minor complaint is that the paint is starting to chip (8 years later) and I do note a small amount of rust (it is saltwater that I dive in). If you have it hanging loose off your BC, it will clank a bit on its own. So sometimes I'll hold onto it to keep it from making random clanks. Even knowing this, I would buy this again in a heartbeat!

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
cristian r  Por que es compacto y no necesita del BCD.
JAMES F  Kept losing my tank banger and allows me to control how loud I need to be.
MR A  Hi name is Bruno Andujar,I am Scuba Diver. I bought this item because the price and quality is good. I will use for my dive school and shop as well.
LINDA H  Easy to use noisemaker to get my dive buddies attention.
HUGH W  Not a big fan, rattle hangs a lot.
ROBERT L  Compact but signals my buddies just fine. Travels well. Seems indestructable.
RANDY K  I love attention. Not! It does get everyone's attention, but unfortuantely even when you are not seeking it.
FRANK G  small, loud, easy to see
DAVID O  Wanted a small noisemaker to get dive partner's attention but was not annoying to everyone else while diving.
NIGEL L  As an instructor I need to be able to get students' attention- these work well, and are compact and highly visible.
R T  Very durable, will last for ever. Nice and loud to get your buddies attention. I prefer the one that rattles it has several balls in it.
wpns w  Thought it would work well (but it doesn't carry well underwater)
KEITH H  they are a great size but you have to shake them real hard to hear them, with all the other background noise... we stilll use them, you need to get use to the clacking sound so you can respond to it... K
Sheila R  Our dive master used one on a dive and I found it quite useful.
Shopper  Will this rattle with normal movements?
JEFFERY S  No it is quiet until you actively shake it.
Mark R R  I've never had a problem with it rattling when I don't want it to rattle. The only problem I've had is that when I shake it (and it rattles) my dive buddy doesn't notice. That might be primarily because my dive buddy is too focused on other things, or it might be primarily because the rattling isn't particularly loud. This noisemaker is probably adequate if your dive buddy has decent ears and is experienced enough to pay attention to anything other than his or her buoyancy.
FRANCE B  No, you have to shake it. They only negative is that the paint chips after a few years.
SETH S  It seemed to only rattle slightly when i would roll onto my side, and it would re-position. Not much of a rattle, but a couple quiet clinks.
CHARLES B  THis rattle needs to be shook vigorously to be heard at a good distance underwater. The chance of it rattling with normal movement is slim, if stored in a pocket even less so
KENNETH R  It might give a faint rattle with movement. The purpose of this is to shake it vigorously to gain your buddies attention... Awesome dive accessory.
ANTHONY W  On the surface, yes. Underwater, not much. My movements underwater are typically a great deal slower than movements on the surface. Also worth noting - I seem to have trouble getting people's attention with this; it sounds quite loud to me, but perhaps the frequency of the sound it makes isn't ideal, or it simply isn't loud enough. Tank bangers seem to work much better.
MELANIE S  Nope, it rattles only when you actually shake it and not very loud or annoying under water.
LAUREL F  It will make a little noise if it gets moved back and forth. It was enough that I don't carry it anymore...if you kept it in a pocket that would be better, I had it on a flexi leash. Carabiner on tank is still my favorite signal.
ROBERT M  Which did customers buy the clank or rattle?
KIRSTIN B  I bought a rattle for me and a clank for my husband. Both were readily audible and our friends could tell which one of us was signaling.
SHANNON G  Clanks with metal shakers inside a metal container.
NANCY W  I bought it so I could get someone's attention. Mostly to show my buddy a fish but also in case I needed help.
JAMES G  I bought one of each for my wife and I. They both work just as well...
JASON M  Makes no difference. If you are in a group, just make sure their is a variety so you don't get confused who is making the noise.
KEITH T  I found the clank to be great under water.
Frank L  Rattle is more popular. It is personal preference, however.
JEFFERY S  Rattle for me. Works great.
ADAM M  We have the clank - much better than using a tank banger. It does add some weight though
VINCE S  i bought the rattle, works good.
DON F  I purchased the rattle. The sound is pretty distinct and catches everyone's attention.
ROBERT M  Rattle - have both & the rattle is much easier heard
COREY B  I have owned the "clank" for 3 years & around 70 dives. I really like it - just loud enough to get my buddy's attention, but not obnoxious.
JOSHUA R  I bought the rattle. It's nice and loud underwater.
