dive reel

By

from danbury, TX, US

This is the second reel of this type I have owned. The first one I owned I used it so much that I literally wore it out. I still have it and will now use it as a back up reel. This reel is tough and will last hundreds of dives. the best thing is the price. well worth the money. I would recommend this reel to any one who needs a good all around reel.

doesn't work well

By

from Jacksonville, FL, US

After taking it down for a few dives, seems like there's too much rope for the reel and it gets very hard to reel in, the last 25 ' or so. Then, it regularly binds itself up and you have to hold the handle in one hand, and then pull the reel very, very hard to unstick the reeling action. You can imagine what a mess this is to do underwater. I'm going to try and take off the rope and put another, thinner rope on there to see if it cures the problem. It's a shame as the product seems like it's built with good durability.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
George J  This is a reliable low load safety line / tether. Easy fastening application and easy line recovery. A lot of Reel for the money.
Ron M  It is a compact, lightweight hand reel that won't add weight to the BCD and it has a fully enclosed spool to prevent line fouling. the choice of Bright colored spools make it easy to locate and differentiate spool lengths
JEFFREY A  Nice price and use it to connect with floatable dive flag while in the water.
Wayne M  To proceed to Advanced Diver Course
THOMAS S  for safety for flag and inflatable safety marker
SHARON R  Attach to my BCD and my Diver Tube for boat pickup.
JOE A  Good price. Easy to use
PHIL S  To show during Advanced Dive Classes
BONNIE B  Inexpensive but I would have preferred to pay more for a stronger feeling reel. Not confident about this one ... feels flimsy and the button thing to lock or open the reel is not strong at all.
STEVE C  use for dive flag and safety sausage
KENNETH R  Durable and easy to clean. Simple to use even with heavy gloves on.
LORI S  So easy to reel in. Far better than than a finger spool.
STACY E  Need to carry a back up reel at a great price
MICHAEL W  This is a good reel for the price. I use it for my dive flag and other non critical uses.
Martin J  Reliable for a wreck reel? Jamming or tangling issues?
GREGG W  hasn't been any problem
JK J  Extremely reliable for wreck and cave. No jamming, no entanglement issues at all. I tied a larger loop at the leading end of the line so that I could run the line around a bar or loop on the outside of the wreck, then pass the reel through that loop, to securely fasten the end to the outside - without notes and without relying on a clip. I then put a black mark on the line 10' in, 2 marks at 20' in, 3 marks at 30' in, etc., so I could measure my horizontal penetration and add it to my depth, to compare to how far I could penetrate. I have been VERY happy with this reel!
DiveDivaDM D  I have been using it off shore and shore dives. In Florida we are required to carry a dive flag. It has served me well. I haven't had any issues.
Julie t  I plan to use this for safety sausage. How do you release and lock the line?
GARY B  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS REEL WITH A SAFETY FLOAT. THE REEL JAMS AND IS NOT SAFE TO DEPLOY THE FLOAT.
Nat W  What is not shown in the picture that there is a sliding locking plastic that allows you to lock or ratchet or free flow. What I found is that lock sometimes slide to open during entry and releases the line. I'd suggest to use a rubber band (like the hair band) to tie/catch/lock the black handle to the locking plastic through the handle or any other way to prevent the lock from opening up.
BRIAN C  I use this reel with my safety float too. There is a small switch on the side of the reel. This is the "brake". Think of it like the parking brake on a car. You can control the amount of brake, or lock it completely. The switch is big, so gloves are no problem.
