About Aquatec Alternate Regulator/Inflator with Sub Alert Unit

The Aquatec Air-3 Inflator replaces the conventional BC power inflator and second stage octopus by combining the functions of both into a single unit. It also is unique in that it also incorporates the Sub-Alert underwater horn. When you're taught how to dive you are given practice in buoyancy control more than any other skill. Once you start to dive every time you go underwater, fin the reef, or surface you use buoyancy control.

All this time your octopus second stage regulator hangs un-used and out of mind. When a real life out-of-air situation occurs, the stress and anxiety mounts, and you find yourself fumbling for a piece of equipment you never use the Octopus! Combining your inflator devise (that you use on every dive) with your octopus Regulator assures your ability to react properly when an out-of-air emergency occurs. Be a safe diver with the Aquatec Air-3 Breathable Inflator with Sub-Alert underwater horn.

The Sub-Alert horn works both underwater and on the surface. Activation of the horn requires only a very small amount of air from your cylinder. The volume is very high at 110-120 dB. Approximated surface range is about 0.50 miles. Every Air-3 unit's regulator is measured and factory tuned to the prefect breathing resistance

The Aquatec Alternate Regulator/Inflator with Sub Alert Unit is commonly used for Cold Water, Eliminating Hoses, Recreation, Warm Water and more. The Aquatec Alternate Regulator/Inflator with Sub Alert Unit is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Advanced, Advanced Diver among others. Decent Octo

I bought this from LeisurePro about a year ago. I've done about 20 recreational dives on it. Seems to work pretty well. A couple of issues I've encountered though are: 1. My local scuba shop won't rebuild it. They can't get the parts. 2. The horn button and the bc deflate button are easily confused and I often quack the horn when I mean to deflate my bc. 3. When rinsing or soaking in freshwater after a dive, you need to keep the inflator/breathing hose connected or you will get water in the r...

Waste of Money

By

from Minneapolis, MN, US

I bought three of these. The last one to repair one of the first ones I bought. They always leaked and the horn is not loud enough to be heard either on the surface or underwater. I even spent $60 to have one tuned at a shop with a value replacement and it leaked the next dive. I also couldn't find parts to rebuild them. Strongly not recommend.

Ups and Downs

By

I dive with my wife who is recently certified and doesn't realize that in an emergency her cognitive abilities are probably not going to function well enough to find her octopus reg, besides the fact that they're just hassle most of the time. So I bought two of these Aquatecs (I like to keep buddy equipment identical for emergencies: less confusion). In my opinion, these inf/def/regs are the best for primary regulator failures, or if your buddy runs out of air you pass them your primary (good to have 40" hose) and you breath off the Aquatec. Generally, they work great. The inflator, deflator, and horn buttons work well. The mouth piece is comfortable and breathes well enough for an emergency (although a 16 inch hose length could be a little longer for more maneuverability, i.e., you can't turn your head all the way to the right when breathing off it). For buoyancy control I think it works better than the one that came with my BCD, except that of the two I bought, one them had a problem with regulator free flow until I adjusted it. You can manually inflate without much difficulty. Cautions: It fits a one inch (interior diameter) corrugated hose. If that's what your BCD has it's very easy to install. However, my BCD had a 3/4" hose so I had to adapt a 1" hose to the 3/4 fitting on my BCD. Also, the included 23" LP hose was too short so I had to buy a longer LP regulator hose and a quick release adapter (it uses a SeaQuest style) to fit to our BCDs. All this was pretty easy to do once I'd done all the research to figure out how to do it. The biggest issue is that there is NO tech support for this product and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them worked on at a shop. However, given the low price I'll just replace them with new ones. Last issue, the horn should get your buddy's attention, but is not loud enough to signal a boat or someone on shore. I have another horn that is ear damagingly loud that you can hear for quite a distance on the surface. Even with all of the above, I am still happy with this product and would conditionally recommend it. PS: There are YouTube videos for disassembly and assembly.

First U/W noise maker I found that works

By

First U/W noise maker I found that actually gets my son's attention. I have tried several different types of u/w noise makers and this is the first to actually get his attention even if he is not close. And it is really loud above water. Plus it has the benefit of not needing on octopus! I used this to replace an Air Pro2 that was leaking. Great all in one device, I highly recommend it.

One minor (MAJOR!) Detail not noted...

By

I won't rate it negatively - nor positively - just wanted to note for anyone else considering purchasing, that this unit is not compatible with all BCDs. Specifically, the corrugated hose from my Aeris BCD will not fit this unit; sizing is just way off. this requires a 1" hose; the Aeris, Oceanic, and other BCDs do not offer a hose (or even an adapter) that would allow using this on something other than an Aquatec BCD.

Octo Made Simple

By

I thought this would be something I would have to take to my local shop to have it installed but no, I was able to install it myself with the instructions and I was in the water that same day. Thank you for its simplicity.
