I love this! It is sturdy, the reg bag is a nice plus, and it's padded. To clean it, all you have to do is hose it out. This fit ALL my gear with no problem - even my BC! I have a pretty bulky Zeagle Ranger BC too. I don't think this is listed but it also came with another wallet-style bag. Like a matching pocket-type thing of some sort made of the same material. I don't know what it is supposed to be for, but my dive tables slide in there perfectly and are handy for when I need them rather than shuffled around on the bottom of my bag. In the outside pocket I could fit "backup gear" like a spare mask in a hard case and a skin, which was cool. The wheels have nice treads on them; wheels make travelling with gear sooo much easier! Travelers, please note: this bag is pretty big - it's the size of real luggage, not "carry-on" size. Maybe a little "clunky" to load onto the boat, but there was always boat staff to help me out. They laughed at my bag, saying it was huge, but I didn't think it was, nor did I care because it was so convenient and fit under the seat perfectly on the boat (I had a duffel style mesh bag before which was a pain). I could only find one con with this bag and it's no biggie to me: I dropped my fins once which were in the side strap; they got knocked out somehow. But then again, maybe I didn't have the strap tight enough because I was in a hurry. I would totally buy this bag again and recommend it to all my friends. I was impressed with the quality from the minute I took it out of the box.

The Akona progression roller bag is not exactly what I expected. The suitcase is large, however, flimsy which makes it hard to load scuba gear and additional clothing in the bag. The fin pockets on the inside, do not accommodate my twin jet fins. Due to it's size it is easy to go over the 50 pound airline limit. I have bought numerous scuba related items from Akona and have been very satisfied. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Comments about Akona Progression Roller Bag (AKB156):

yes it is true that at almost 13 pounds it will be easy to overfill and exceed airlines 50 lb requirements. so if you are bringing a complete set of gear and packing it to the gills besides you will have to pay the excess. and yes it *might be true that the fin pockets will not work for you, or the straps might not easily close around your fins (i did not find this to be an issue of critical importance and for ease of packing didn't try to stuff the fin pockets but once). but the bag is well made and after well over 20,000 flight miles, 13 segments (checked in 10 separate times and transferred on 3 connecting flights), numerous ferry, jeepney, bus, and trike rides, countless hotel check ins, not to mention miles of pulling the thing behind me, i can say i am satisfied with this bag and expect it to give me many, many more miles and years of use. it looks a little worse for the wear and tear, but it is rugged right down to the zipper and built to last. the wheels are large enough to be stable. it very easily holds complete gear for one person - wet suit, bcd, fins, regulator in the included bag in the dedicated pocket, and accessories without being overpacked and with room to spare. and i can't argue with the price.
if there is a downside it is that the external compression strap is only on 1 side.

After being so pleased with the Akona Regulator bag quality I decided to give this a try to replace my duffle bag with no wheels. Very impressed! Large, roomy, and well made.

Comments about Akona Progression Roller Bag (AKB156):

I've had this bag since 2008 and now need a new one. The bag needs an inside pocket for the regulator. The zippers aren't made for locking. Fins barely fit in the fin pockets and worst of all the plastic stablizer on the bottom so the bag doesn't tip over started cracking and breaking off. Too bad my warranty expired.

Comments about Akona Progression Roller Bag (AKB156):

The only reason that I did not rate as a five is because I have an Akona bag I bought in 2005 that is a backpack that fits all my dive gear and was very well built. (still going strong). Note to Akona- you built them better before. I bought this bag for my luggage as another Akona bag I previously used now exceeds maximum luggage dimensions. The regulator bag is nice and the shape is better than the previous square design. The insides of the front pockets are very thin and look as they might not hold up. No worry because my regulator (along with a lap top)fits in the Akona commuter which I will use as a carry on.

      Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
LEAH W  Size, previously used this brand and liked the look.
dean b  Would each of the side pockets be able to store a set of XL Force (duckie)Fins? That is two fins in each side -pocket.
Bill P  this is from Mindi The side pockets will not hold fins. It's the strap on the side that is meant to hold fins. Or you could put the fins in the main compartment. The side pockets are for regs. Mindy
Shopper  Can the 2 external pockets be accessed from the inside? Or maybe a better way to ask.....can the airline baggage handlers get to my gear in the main compartment through the 2 external pockets??
LeisurePro S   You cannot access the main compartment of the bag from the external compartments, I'm sure the baggage guys are very sad about that. I have a nice lock for the main compartment that the TSA can open without cutting off the lock, SKU: MCNTSA
