Unless this is isn't for a kayak, just get a backup kayak paddle instead. I leave this one at home, and take a broken down kayak paddle for backup. If I really need a paddle out at sea, won't take much longer to put the two parts together than to twist this one into use.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  how long is it? and how long does it extend to
DEANNA H  I bought this item in February of 2013. Took it on a trip with me to Belize. Actually I haven't had a chance to use it since then. But from what I remember its roughly 5' long or so. It is a good paddle, better than expected really. It has curvature on paddle end which makes rowing or paddling easier. It is durable and a good weight for a compatible paddle. Was a handy item to have when out kayaking, and rowing an inflatable boat. Hope this info helps!
RICHARD V  Check the specifications link. It gives you the dimensions for each model.
Frank L  20 Inches long when not extended, and 45 inches long when extended.
LARRY P  I am just guessing here but the closed lenght is probably about 2 foot or less and the extended lenght is about 4 foot or less. Good quality paddle.
Shopper  Does this paddle float?
Ben T  Yes it floats.
