About Aeris XR-2 Nitrox Wrist Computer

Have you ever spent a dive staring at your computer instead of looking at everything in the water all because your computer is hard to read? The XR-2's enlarged digits, easy-to-read icons, and split screen take the guesswork out of reading your dive computer Also, the XR-2 allows you to decide what information displays; now you can customize the display to include only the things you want to keep an eye on during your dives The XR-2 is an air, nitrox or gauge mode computer, has backlighting, and incorporates audible alarms with flashing LED warning light

Variable ascent rate indicator will keep you safe upon ascent and slow you down progressively as you head to the surface Safety stop timer will give you the ability to include the all important 15' (5 meter) safety stop which is recommended by all instructional agencies Aeris Dive Computers are designed with color-coded bar graphs; grey, yellow and red These graphs monitor three very important diving parameters; nitrogen accumulation, oxygen loading and your personal ascent rate Pixels build up in each of these color-coded areas to give you a quick, easy reference of these parameters Proper monitoring of these graphs allows you to select the personal degree of conservatism you wish to build into each dive, putting you in control of your margin of safety

The XR-2 features time of day on the surface as well as underwater for quick reference Time and date stamp also helps you to easily identify specific dives in Log Mode or PC download memory All Aeris computers automatically compensate for altitude up to 14,000' (4,267 meters), giving adjusted no-decompression times and depths They even automatically recalibrate the depth display for freshwater instead of seawater The XR-2 computer features diver replaceable CR240 batteries This can be a real trip-saver on board a live-aboard boat! An added benefit to diver replaceable batteries is the hot-swap" feature allows you to change batteries between dives while maintaining all calculations

The XR-2 features a watertight, plug-in serial connection for fast and reliable PC download Feature-rich software provides intuitive post-dive analysis and logging You have the option to add and/or edit many pieces of information to customize your log book, with data such as depth and decompression status during a dive, maximum depth, bottom time, no-decompression status, descent and ascent rate, surface interval, and any violations recorded automatically The XR-2 has an operational depth limit as a computer to 330' (100 meters), and as an advance depth gauge to 399' (122 meters) Other features of the XR-2 are temperature on surface and underwater, simulator and dive planner, set units of measure, and much more The AERIS XR-2 is an ideal, user-friendly diving computer for those who prefer wrist-mounted computer gear The computer comes with Aeris 30 day satisfaction guarantee and a 24 month limited warranty

I bought this dive computer for my trip to the Dominican Republic. I did a few dives with the computer and everything worked perfectly. The instructions were straight forward and understandable. I was able to become familiar with most of the functions prior to my dives. During the dive, the computer tracked all necessary dive stats and the display was easy to read at 70ft. Pressing the button allowed for cycling through a series of screens, all of which were useful, easy to read and interpret.

The hose length is just right. However, I would recommend a clip/strap to hold the console in place on the BCD while diving.

Out of the water, the console is compact, light weight and easy to handle. This console was a great buy and I consider it a great value.

BEWARE: The computer is good; however, a standard sized compass, pre-2007 model, does NOT fit in the pocket on the back of the console! If you want a compass, you must purchase Aeris' NEW model compass.[...] For this reason, I would save the compass money and apply that toward a different computer. [...] do your homework before purchasing.Safe diving.

Comments about Aeris XR-2 Nitrox Wrist Computer:

First, I believe that dive computers provide so much useful information that I consider them to be essential safety gear. Basic models today are so inexpensive that there isn't really a cost barrier to ownership like there was a decade ago. Even (especially) if you travel and still rent gear, own a computer that you know thoroughly and trust. That said, the XR-2 would be high on my recommended list as a first computer for a new diver or a backup computer for a recreational diver.

I purchased this as a backup wrist computer after I had a console computer battery fail without warning during a dive in cold water. During dives now, I actually find myself referring to the XR-2 more often than the console computer because it's just right there on the wrist.

This model has been around long enough to work out any bugs that some of the new models seem to have. The design is proven and does the job well but it is almost the size of a hockey puck, not as compact as some of the newer models. I use both styles and alternate depending on the dive. I like the bigger size, it makes the face easier to read. The size isn't intrusive at all while diving but you're not going to wear it around town like a wristwatch either.

This is a solid workhorse computer that is simple enough for new divers but has the capability to handle more advanced needs including nitrox and night dives with the built in backlight and the USB download capability.

I also use and like the Suunto computers. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages so take into consideration the kind of diving you'll do. My Suunto's have more advanced features like deep stops and gas switching during a dive but the Aeris models are more intuitive and a little more liberal with no-deco times.

Comments about Aeris XR-2 Nitrox Wrist Computer:

I wanted something a little better than basic entry but also didn't want to spend a whole lot. This computer has audible alarms, ability to download to the PC (need a separate cable about $70), easy to read display with large numbers. Theres only 2 buttons to press, so you don't have to pull out the operating manual every time you want to get reacquainted. There's really just 3 screens to toggle thru in dive mode which gives me all the info I care about. Oh yeah, it has wet activation too in case you forget to turn it on before you jump it. It's very similar to my husbands Hollis DG02 but the Aeris has a split screen that makes viewing your nitrogen and ascent rate very easily and quickly. I absolutely love it. I'm a fairly new diver but I think it has just enough bells and whistles should I decide to go into more advanced diving, such as Nitrox. Leisure Pro's price was easily $100 cheaper than similar online stores. If you decide to get it, check out divecomputertraining.com for a great video classroom on how to use & care for it (about $6 and well worth it).

Comments about Aeris XR-2 Nitrox Wrist Computer:

I've used one for a couple of years and loved it. VERY easy to use. Bought one fo the wife to use on a recent trip. She can't even change a car tire herself but found this easy to read and use. Battery changing is straightforward, but it's hard to tell that the O-ring is properly seated on the battery compartment.
