About Aeris Manta Scuba and Free Diving Wrist Computer

Aeris MANTA is a full-featured nitrox capable Dive Computer perfect as a low-profile primary instrument or a back-up. The MANTA is a powerful and versatile new sports watch, ideal for divers, free divers and those that just want to look like one. A unique combination of quality, function and style, the MANTA is perfect on its own or as a backup to any of Aeris other Dive Computer models.

Advanced Free Dive Mode:
The Manta provides accurate depth and time with an amazing 1-second sampling rate for subsequent PC download and analysis. Dive Time is displayed in seconds and minutes. Custom audible alarms include Elapsed Dive Time, Countdown Timer and (3) Independent Max Depth Alarms. The Manta is the first Free Diving Computer to calculate and track Nitrogen Tissue Loading, allowing you to switch between SCUBA dives and Free Dives on the same dive day.

Advanced Wristwatch Functions:
The Manta is an advanced digital wristwatch featuring a 1/100 second chronograph (stopwatch) with lap timer, 24 hour countdown timer, daily alarm, alternate time zone with date, 12/24 hour clock, and OceanGlo Backlight.

Dive Time Remaining:
Dive Time Remaining provides a 'real' number in minutes, considering Nitrogen and Oxygen absorption, and automatically displays whichever allows less time.

Oversized Digits:
Take the AERIS challenge: When shopping for a new dive computer, compare the displays. When it comes to viewing critical information, which would you rather see at 100' (30 meters)?

Audible Alarms with Flashing LED Warning Light:
The Manta features a variety of system and user-customized audible alarms, alerting you to situations that pose a potential danger, or simply serve as a convenient reminder.

Audible Alarm Acknowledgement:
Have you ever had difficulty hearing your computer's audible alarm? Perhaps that little beep signifying a potentially dangerous situation was timed perfectly with your exhaust bubbles rushing past your ears. Or maybe it seemed insignificant as that huge manta ray soared overhead. You won't miss the Manta's audible alarm. Once triggered, the alarm will sound continuously for 10 seconds. We know what you're thinking. "That's nice, I'll definitely hear the alarm, but isn't that going to annoy me and everyone else in the water?" We thought of that too. The alarm's job is to get your attention so that you look at the computer. Once it does that, simply press the button and it will stop. You're a responsible diver and the Manta treats you that way.

Air or nitrox:
The Manta acts simply as an 'Air' computer until you tell it otherwise, whether that is this weekend or 2 years down the road.

The MANTA has an operating range to 330' (100 meters), can onboard log 24 dives, 99 free-dives, and is powered by a user replaceable 3 volt CR2430 lithium battery. Computer is altitude adjustable up to 14,000' (4,270 meters). Computer comes with a comprehensive owner's manual, free online training, 30 day satisfaction guarantee and is covered by Aeris 24 month limited warranty.

This is my first computer. I just used it on a recent trip to Mexico. The instructions are very difficult to read and understand. Many pages of descriptions of the functions (over and over again) but very little on how to actually use it. Plan a dive ???? How do you do that? The directions supposedly go through the procedures but there are no examples to know how to actually do it. My take is this computer manual, like some home computer manuals, you have to know how to use the computer before you can understand the manual. It did record my dives but I am not sure it recorded all the information because I couldn't understand how to set it up for the first one, plan a dive ???? I would probably recommend this computer but buyer beware. The manual is not going to give you much help in its use. So, either find someone that has used a computer before that maybe can help you or try others before buying this one.

There is a known defect with this computer where they quickly drain batteries despite use. If I place a brand new battery in my computer it works for a month or two before the battery dives and despite how often I dive with it. Dive once and leave it sitting around for two months? Come back to a dead battery. Easily solved by replacing the expensive battery but I real problem. I contacted Aeris who denied it until I pointed them to the many threads on the internet of other people with the same issue. They eventually acknowledged it and swapped my original computer for a refurbished one. SAME PROBLEM on the new computer! So I'll only put a battery in before I know I'll be diving extensively in the coming weeks or month. Other wise, I just dive without a computer since I'm too cheap to replace it. Had a dive master who had the same problem on his computer. On the other hand, my wife's computer does not have the issue. I'm done with Aeris after the arm twisting they put me through just to deliver another defective product. Buyer beware

Comments about Aeris Manta Scuba and Free Diving Wrist Computer:

This is good computer for the beginner scuba, or backup computer for the pro. You have all scuba related info well-arranged and mostly (not always!) accurate. I had 2 of them. Good as a sport watch also.
HOWEVER do not buy it for freediving it is BAD for it! I'm freediving/spearfishing 3-4 times a week and watch my manta constantly. Well, the depth is accurate, but everything else is CRAZY! Your bottom time will always appear as a big surprise... 7 minutes after second dive! Hate it. Use it only as a depth meter and NEVER rely your life on it when do freediving or sequential scuba - freediving activities with less than 12 hours in between (manta will be confused and could go crazy on you).

Comments about Aeris Manta Scuba and Free Diving Wrist Computer:

I like the design; the watch itself works and does what its supposed to, but after just a few dives the numbers SOMETIMES start to partially fade away. the bars that make the numbers individually fade out and kind of look like other numbers, can get a little tricky; but its only sometimes. I used it today and it worked fine. I don't get it. I want to keep it because it does exactly what i want it to, but it has this problem. I would send it back if I didn't become attached to using a computer. For how much i dive, I couldn't go a few weeks without using one. Maybe i just got a bad one.
