Bought this BCD specifically for travel to Cozumel, MEX. Fits and flies well. Added a BCD knife by the weight pocket area. Had to add a crotch strap because the BCD would float too high once I surfaced. However, the crotch strap fixed that and added another attachment for my camera gear. Carried various tanks (alum 80, 100, and Steel 100) without any major problems. I prefer my Hollis ATS or Aqualung Balance for local dives but this Aeris EX Lite fit the bill and functioned well.

I've had this BC for about a year and it seems pretty decent, but there are some things to be considered before purchase:

LIMITED WEIGHT CAPACITY: This BC's limited weight-carrying capacity only makes it practical for warm-water destinations - where minimal wetsuit thickness (and corresponding ballast weight) is required. Unless you only plan to dive in these types of locales, you'll have to buy a second BC (or wear a supplemental wieght belt) for other conditions.

LACK OF CERTAIN "CREATURE COMFORTS": If you are looking for a right shoulder dump valve, comfy velcro cumberbund or storage pouches, look elsewhere. This is a minimalist travel BC...

DESIGN FLAW: The folks at Aeris seem to have placed the inflator hose retention strap too far down the shoulder strap. It looks in pictures, but put a dramatic "U" shape in the hose - restricting ability to vent air from the BC (even if you roll onto your side). I found a workaround for this, but it's something to consider unless you want to leave your inflator hose dangle free.

INCONVENIENT TRIM WEIGHT POUCHES: The fastening of the trim weight pouches is rather irksome. When they are weighted, they like to slide around on the tank strap - making inconvenient to transfer the BC from one tank to another without unloading them (pretty important on a dive trip). The tank buckling system could be improved as well.

The above having been said, this is still a pretty good travel BC for its low price point and it has some nice features such as elastic webbing to help the bladder contract, attachment points for gauges and the power inflator works pretty smoothly.

Can't say I would recomend this to a friend, because it would depend on what they planned to use it for. But for a low-priced travel BC, it's decent, as long as you consider the points above...

Comments about Aeris EX Lite Travel BCD, Black:

This is Aeris quality streamlined to keep it light and functional. Overall, I really like this BCD, especially for travel and diving in the tropics. It has a hard back unlike most TBCD's which makes handling it and putting in on your tank easy.

Lately I've wanted to use an Air2 integrated 2nd to streamline the rig even more. The problem I discovered is this BCD doesn't have a right shoulder dump (most travel BCD's don't) which can be problematic in an emergency because it unnecessarily complicates things as one must control buoyancy with no right shoulder dump while breathing off the integrated air (it's hose is the left shoulder pull dump) when their primary is given to the OOA buddy. This can be accomplished safely with practice, but in a panic diver situation, it's one more thing that has to be handled with finesse to ensure a safe ascent. I may either give up my Air2 or sell this BCD for this reason alone. Safety First!

The EZ Equip quick release weight pockets are very secure and simply designed to load and release, but moved too far back on the hip for non-flexible divers who may have to do a "Houdini" to reach back and unclip the snap. Given the trend towards putting weights in 3 different places: tank trim pockets, integrated release pockets and a weight belt to hand to the boatman, this isn't necessarily a major issue, but I find it very awkward to reach back and twist my arm at an extreme angle to release the clip should I want to unload more weight for the boatman or in a ditch weight situation (rare). A few inches more forward would have been better in IMHO and not hindered the streamline aspect of the BCD. Maybe I should just practice more yoga :-) Only in a extreme BCD failure would one dump all their weight anyways; it's a great way to rocket to the surface.

Comments about Aeris EX Lite Travel BCD, Black:

First of all. The first thing that needs to be added is a crotch strap. The back plate has the slot to accommodate mounting with no modification. Add this and it is a great, light weight, strong performing BC. I dive in the harsh cold waters of the pacific northwest. I have taken it down to 100ft on numerous occasions and dive an average temperature of 48*F. It has performed solidly and has no trouble accommodating my steel 108cf tank. It has an extremely low profile and great adjustments making it a simple, comfortable, no frills BCD.

          Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
DOUGLAS A  Travel BC, no pockets though, and not crazy about elastic waist belt(sewed it-permanent ). I do like its compactness and low weight for price.
Shopper  Can you attach a cummerbund to this?
MARK S  A cummerbund is totally unnecessary. There are two straps that come around the front; one at chest height and the other above the waist (like a cummerbund). It holds very securely with much less restriction compared to a normal tech BC. The integrated weight system also make a weight belt unnecessary. I hope that helps.
Shopper  Hi! Could u please tell me the number of the o-ring on the inflatorbutton? Mine is broke, and Im currently miles away from my manual!
