A Proper Sheath
A good dive knife should have the following aspects:
- A net cutter
- A smooth blade
- A serrated blade that makes for easy cutting without applying too much pressure downward
Now you can have the best dive knife on the market, but a proper sheath is absolutely essential to securing it while swimming. It should clip onto your belt easily and safely. Your vision may be obstructed while diving thus it is important that you are able to place it back in the sheath in either direction.
Placement of your knife is also key during your descent underwater. Some may strap it to their leg or their arm. You just want to make certain that it is within easy reach if you need it quickly. You may also place the knife on your BCD.

Steel vs. Titanium
There are so many kinds of dive knives on the market, it is so difficult to choose which one will work best for you. One of the main differences between a steel dive knife and a titanium dive knife is the cost. Titanium is way more costly than steel however, it won't rust over time. Titanium is also lighter weight, and is much stronger than steel. If you are planning to dive on a regular basis, such as more than twice a month, a titanium knife would be a valuable investment. However, if you are taking a vacation and only plan to dive a few times, a less expensive steel knife may suit your budget.
