Questions about this item:
Glenn C Can you buy extra straps for spares?
Can you buy longer straps?
NOFAL P Also, honestly not sure if you can buy extra straps but I would think so...good luck!
NOFAL P The straps are very easily adjustable and will allow for ample heel room, you shouldn't need to replace them with lnoger straps. Plus, they're very easy to put on and take off whereas if you replaced them with "spring" straps they're much tougher to stretch out.
HENRY S What do you need longer straps for? I'm a size 12 and the large size fits me fine. I dont know if you can buy longer straps.
KENNETH P Yes, you can buy them from Aqualung or order them through you local dealer. Make sure you order the straps only or they will ship you the clips also. The fins are R and L so make sure you designate which set you want if you need the clips.
ANA M I honestly do not know whether you can buy extra straps or longer straps. That is something that probably Aqualung should answer. However, I have a women's size 10 shoe and the straps were long enough and still had a lot of stretch left in them. They seem to be pretty sturdy.
I understand what you mean about having an extra set as spares. :)
Glenn C Sure would hate to get all the way out to the dive site, get all my gear on, reach down to slip my Hot Shot fins on and POP have a strap break.
I'd also like to have the option of having a tighter or looser fit.
Possible?
Shopper I wear scubapro 5mm delta boot in small size. What size of hotshot should I buy? I intended to wear it with boot.
KEN M Well I hope this answers your question. I have a size 10 (mens) foot and have the large size fin. I wear a scuba sock and the combo works fine. Wearing a 5mm boot you may want med or a large. If I remeber correctly Leisure Pro is really good about exchanges.
Brian W I have a size 10 shoe and I wear the regular size hot shot fin barefoot. I would guess if your wearing a small 5mm boot. A small hot shot fin might be too tight . I think if it were me, I would go with a regular size fin.
SCOTT F I wear size 10 shoe and wear a regular with out boot. Foot pocket is snug and comfortable for me. Great fin - lightweight, comfortable and good for travel. I think it is primarily designed for warm water and bare foot or lightwieght sock/shoe.
I would suggest trying size regular - foot pocket may be tight with boot.
ELINOR B This is from a customer
I had the same question about whether to order S or M, and I wear size 9 AA shoes. I don't know about your boots, but I was able to try both sizes of the fins and decided on S, for two reasons: the strap on the back is quite stretchy, and the M felt a bit loose. Since I know things loosen up further underwater, I went with S, even though it's a bit difficult to cram the boot into the covering. It's a bit of a toss-up, but I hope this is helpful.
RICK T I asked Aqualung the same thing and this was the response( note she has a size 8 dive boot and it is also a five mil:
Size chart as follows:
SM 5-7
REG 8-11
LG/XL 12/14
Please note the only chart we have currently is based on Men's shoe size. If for a woman keep in mind she will be 1.5 to two sizes smaller on the chart.
Don?t forget to account for the dive boot. I think a size regular should do the trick but it all depends on the shape of the foot. Also yes you can change the strap out for springs as long as they are the type that connects to the round plastic peg. Hold onto the receipt and if the size regular doesn?t do it then Lg/XL will surely work. Maybe if you want to be absolutely sure take her dive booty into the dive shop and see how it fits?
When we got the fins she tried them on with the boot and they fit fine. We also will put spring straps on them.
TIMOTHY F I would think a small if you're talking women's small. If men's I would think maybe a Regular. I wear a large with a size 12 mens foot (barefoot) and there is room. The rubber band is pretty stretchy.
GERALD M Don't wear a boot.....use an aqua sock or similar. The strap set up wd not work with a convientional boot.
Shopper I wear a size 9 womens and my husband wears an 8 mens what sizes should we order?
HEIDI O Hi there:
I am a size 8 1/2 womens with fairly narrow feet, but i don't buy narrow specific shoes and i have a size small. For the most part they are great, but i do have to say, that you may want to wear with booties as i found that they rubbed on the tops of my feet and were more comfortable with.
LEO S I wear a size 11 mens shoe, and use size large fin.
I would suggest using a large fin since the foot pocket
seems a bit on the small side, and the heel strap is very short
and not adjustable.
JON Z Small Medium Large
Mens 6-8 9-11 11-13
Womens 7-9 10-12 13+
For Sizing purposes; If you wear a boot with a hard sole, add one size to your regular shoe size.
Jon
NOFAL P Sorry, I was confused. I initially ordered the Hotshot Open Heel fins but returned them for the Slingshot Open Heel fins...in those I ordered a L as I wear a size 11 shoe...
NOFAL P I ordered my actual shoe size +1 because I wear a neoprene sock with them. They are comfortable fins and work very, very well. Probably the easiest fins I've owned yet as far as putting on & taking off. Good luck!
WILLIAM B I would say regular. I wear a women's 8 and there is still room for me to wear sock if I choose.. These have been the best fins I have ever had. Very easy getting them on and off.
JAMES Z I bought M/L but it was obvious once I got the fins that they are not suitable for use with hard soled booties. I could not get my size 10 men's booties into the M/R fin.
I ended up exchanging the Aqualung for the APS MANTARAY FIN WHITE LIGHTNING MD/LR which accomodates either my full booties or my considerably smaller water shoes.
JERRY H My shoe size is men's 8. I wear the large but I wear booties. I originally bought the small bit had to exchange them. The large fits great with the booties.
DENNIS L I can only tell you that I wear mens size 8 1/2 shoe. I purchaser size regular fin and it was to large. I purchased a pair of Pro Mate fin socks, and together they were perfect. Based on my experience, If I wore size 8 mens and did not want to use a fin sock, I would purchase a size small
Shopper Ca you frog kick in these fins? I am a photographer, need to be able to have good control. Would these fins be good for Cozumel?
JAMES G I see no reason to believe that you can't do that kick. I have not tried a frog kick but I used them in Grand Cayman this year and they were just fine. Small for travel, easy to control, and very comfortable. No boot needed. If you need boots/wet suit, due to cold temp, you may not be able to use these with some thicker boots. At least I cant fit my foot in with 5ml boots.
CALVIN M Bought the Hotshot in April, I have been on better than a dozen dives in St. Thomas since, this fin provides plenty of power and control with no fatigue or discomfort. I have not tried the frog kick with these fins so I cannot answer that question. I bought these as my travel fin but now they are the only fin I use. Great fin true to size. Hope this helps.
DENNIS M Since purchasing the fins in April, I?ve used them in Cabo San Lucas, Grand Cayman and Abaco Bahamas. I found them to be good fins in each of the environments to depths of 110 ft. The majority of the dives were typical flutter kicking to cover ground; however, they had descent frog kicking control for me on one very slow/leisure night dive; however, my height is only 5? 5?. A taller person would likely find longer fins more beneficial for the purpose of stability while frog kicking.
JON Z I have found these fins to work well with most kick styles. The ability to adjust the stiffness of the fins would help in this regard as well. Can't beat these fins for packing for a trip.
RAYMOND T Yes, they are fine for Cozumel. You can use them as any other fin. The greater advantage of this fin is that is shorter (fits small suitcases) than standard fins without sacrificing performance and you don't need boots since they are designed for traveling (usually to warm waters)
KIMBERLY W Yes you can -
I took these fins to a trip to St. Martin.
Loved them --
Perfect to be able to take them on the plane.
JERRY H Used them in the Cenote inTulmun Mexico. They like you to use a frog kick to keep from sturing up the bottom. I had no problems with the fins plus they are easy to put on. Even in the surf. I have been using these fins as my main fins since I purchased them.
D G M If you primarily frog kick, I'd recommend the slingshot vs the hotshot. My opinion is the Slingshot is more responsive. I chose the hotshot because of their small profile for travel.
If you question about Cozumel is in reference to diving in current. I dove there this past July and these fins performed excellent. Most comfortable fin I have used and current was no issue. Except on dive on Tormentos...and no one could fin against the 2.5mph current we had that day. It was a rocket ride.
HOLLY G Yes, you can frog kick in these fins. I have used these fins in the Caribbean and in the northeast in a 7mm - they are great. They don't cause cramps like other fins.
SUSAN S I don't think so. I bought them and took them to the Caymans. They were wonderful, comfortable and easy to get on and off. I used barefoot, no boot. I would buy again, but not for frog kick.
CHRIS G You certainly can. I use them for wreck diving and really like the controllability. The foot pocket is very soft. You will not need to wear booties with this fin.
BRUCE K Yes you can. Frogkick or conventional kick are fine with these fins. I dive Florida reefs with these fins and they should be fine in Cozumel with the added bonus of easy packing in your bag and they are very easy to walk in on a boat. The foot pocket is soft and comfortable. Size seems correct. I like them !!
MARC O I've had no problem frog kicking, helicoptering, reversing, etc.. Super comfortable while doing anything.
Oleg K What is the weight for large/x-large size?
RICHARD M Large/X-Large weigh 3.9 lbs.
KAREN B I'm not sure. That should ne listed in the product specs. They are definitely lighter than my full length split fins. Great size for carry on.ongoing
Shopper if you have how is the performance of this fins against a current .............less effort o do i have to kick hard?
HUGO M these fins are good, my DM loved using them, I also use Mares Quattro and the difference is obvious, the full fins have more power than the Hotshot fins, you will find kicking hard against a current with these fins, I can't see less effort working with any type of fin, perhaps there is somebody who knows more than me.
DAVID W I have had this fin in the currents of Cozumel.... I thought it was pretty comparable to a normal fin when you have the bands set on hard.
KARSTEN S These are great travel fins. I've had no difficulty in moderate currents (have not used in very strong current though). The bungees have 2 resistance levels. When I know there is current, I set it to the stiffer one and the thrust is quite good for a shorter, travel fin. I still prefer my full size fin when not traveling by air.
BRIAN W Have not tried them im strong currents yet. Feel very good so far so I expect they will do better than a split fin.
ROBERT S I thought the performance was good to great. I did not use them in a very strong current however.
ANDREW S I have made many dives with these fins. In a real strong current you would want a larger fin for sure. For Travel and mild current they are great. Best fins I have owned. I have been diving for little over 30 years and these by far are the best fitting fin. Real comfort and the best fins for traveling. Plus no boots to lug as well. Two other family members use same fins as well. If there is that strong of a current I would want to drift dive it any way.
LYNN M They are about average - nothing exceptional good or bad - their claim to fame is light weight for travel and for that they are 5 star
BRUCE K The Hotshots are a very good fin. They are a bit shorter and therefore have a bit less power than the full size Aqualung. However, they are specifically made for travel, pack easily, and work well in tropical waters with average currents. Yes .... i would buy them again.
EUGENE W I haven't tried it in a current yet. Will let you know.
EDWARD S I used them for drift diving in Cancun. They are fabulous travel fins, and that is what I intended them for. If you intend on doing some heavy current diving, use a full size fin. Frankly, it is a physics issue, these are fabulous, but they will only partially overcome the physics of a full size fin and the propulsion it generated. Dive Safely, Ed
STEWART R One of the better fins that I have had. No effort in currents and a very comfortable foot pocket.
SEAN R There is definitely more effort but good enough for the average dive in warm water. I would use these for caribbean diving as a travel fin.
GERALD M Great fins.....easy to kick. Recomend to wear an aqua sock rather than bare.
JOHN L No fins are perfect against the current, but these fins overall work great. They are the best fins I have ever used. I highly reccomend them to anyone.
Lynn S I wear a womens size 8 shoe. Would I need a small or medium?
HOLLY G I wear a 2 mm bootie with mine and I wear a 7 1/2 shoe and while the small size fit my foot ( toe to heel) I found the opening that goes around the foot to be tight and I am very skinny. So I exchanged it for regular size and it is more comfortable. If you will not wear booties depending on the thickness of your foot you still may want regular. The opening on these fins is small. That being said I love these fins. I used them for 15 dives in 1 week and never got a calf cramp. My regular fins constantly give me cramps.
k r is there a resource for size equivalency i.e. shoe size 9-10 = hot shot size small or regular?
KEVIN M I could not find any chart, perhaps Aqualung will read this and add a chart to their website. I dont know if you are a man or woman so I cant guess what fin you might need. I wear a mens 11 and the large fit just right. These are intended to be worn barefoot or with a thin aqua sock, no boots. You can estimate your size from that hopefully. If not, Leisure Pro will pick up and send you a new size for free. I was shocked when they did that for me. Hope this helped you.
NATHAN S I wear a 10.5 or 11 wide so I ordered the large size. The foot pocket is very rigid and I was not able to even put the fins on. That is, I could not get either foot in the foot pocket. They seem to be very nice design, however. I have been out of town and have probably missed the time to return them. They are still in the box. I will either sell them or pass them on to a friend. Had they worked I certainly could had taken a much smaller bag on my trip.
RICHARD M I purchased the extra large, and my shoe size is 13, and they are a perfect fit. I am not certain how to size the reqular, or small size.
JON Z Shoe size of 9-10 should be a Large in the Hotshot fins.
HENRY S I think the fin only comes in 3 sizes small, medium, & Large. I purchased the large because I'm a size 12 and there is no other option. The fin fit me fine. Your def. not a small but don't know as to a med. or large. Wish I could help more.
Shopper can you wear these fins without boots?
DIANE C These are great travel fins. Used them in Roatan in May 2011 - performed well. You can wear with or without thin socks (not boots) - comfortable both ways. Will easily fit in carry-on. Although I can't use them in California, will bring with me on a six week dive trip to SE Asia. I am an AOW/intermediate diver. Highly recommend as a travel fin.
ANTHONY F i use them for snorkeling so do not use boot
i love them.
DAN B I recently purchased these fins and wore them for a week of diving in Aruba with no boots, just barefoot and i liked them. Started to get a few tender spots after a week of diving every day.
KAREN B They were more comfortable without the boots. The material is soft and comfy. I don't suggest using these fins any time you need to generate some power. I was in a situation where I wished I had my full length fins to get me moving faster.
HUGO M Absolutely, in fact they work as advertised, they are better and more comfortable without any boots at all, I tried wearing thin booties with these fins and they were not comfortable (too tight across the top of my foot)
SCOTT F These fins are comfortable without boots. Pocket not designed to handle a very thick boot, maybe a neoprene sock.
Just got back from Cozumel and performed great underwater. Because of "Slingshot" feature fin works, but not as efficient on the surface(snorkeling etc.).
ANDREY S Yes, if you order them in your shoe size. They are very comfortable.
BRIAN W Yes. They are actually designed to be worn with no boots. Very soft foot pocket. You can size them with boots if you like but will not likely be able to wear them without (my wife did this and she has small feet). Loved the fin - easy to get on/off and felt great in the water.
DAVID N Yes. I only wear these fins without boots. Used them recently while diving in the Bahamas and they were great. I had a lot less fatigue that when I use my Tusa fins.
LARRY E Yes, They were made to no use a boot.
JOHN L Yes you can. I bought these fins before a trip to Cozumel and I bought them a little big thinking I would need to wear aqua socks on the ironshore beach. I was very surprised at the comfort and function of these smaller fins. they worked great and I wore the snorkeling and diving all week. I highly recomend them to anyone traveling to your favorite dive destination
DAVID H Absolutely. They are very comfortable barefoot fins. I bought a pair to serve as snorkeling fins as well as travel scuba fins. I haven't done a kick test with my Oceanic Caribe fins, my old snorkeling fins, but I think they will compare favorably as far as power. When flutter kicking on the surface, I have noticed a slight side-to-side wobble with these fins. This may be due to my kick style. Overall they're good, well made fins.
STEPHEN S Yes, the foot pocket is very comfortable. You can wear them barefoot or with a light boot. I wear them barefoot.
CRAIG L They can be used without boots however if you are doing a lot of diving you might want to use with a pair of Lycra socks to avoid any chance of blisters
EUGENE W Yes, the can be worn without booties. They are very comfortable and do not cause a strain on the heel.
SEAN R These fins are meant to be worn without boots. You sacrifice a little power for size but they can go anywhere.
ROBERT S Yes, very comfortable without boots.
MASSI C Yes, pretty sure they are bootless only fins! Perfect for warm water diving, traveling!
MARC O Yes, you don't need boots with Hotshots, and they're very comfortable.
Shopper What colors do you carry?
LeisurePro S These fins only come in an olive green color .
Shopper Is there a size chart?
LeisurePro S Here is a size chart for Aqualung fins.
Warranty Information
This product has a limited warranty of 24 months.
Most dive fins that are designed for Scuba are longer than the 22" to 24". The 22" to 24" length is the magic number for most airlines size limits for carry-onbags. If there were a fin that was short enough, yet powerful enough for Scuba that could come in under that size it could revolutionize the art of the traveling diver! If you are a traveling diver and hate to check your gear bag as luggage and would rather keep it as a carry-on Aqua Lung's Hot Shot Open HeelFin is the fin for you.
This amazing fin has been engineered with the traveling diver in mind. If you want unsurpassed comfort, compactness for carry-on travel, and the power for a fully-outfitted scuba diver then you have found your fin.
First let's shed some traditional gear. This fin is designed to wear without dive boots, so leave the boots at home. Aqua Lung has designed the foot pocket to give unsurpassed comfort with the top and side of the pocket manufactured from a soft, comfortable against the bare skin material. Next, Aqua Lung has a unique self-adjusting Comfo-Strap that is buckle free. Just pull this elastomer strap over your heel for guaranteed comfort. Lastly, a Mid-Foot Flex Joint further relieves your foot from rubbing in the foot pocket when fining.
Compact and lightweight are the next important factors to the traveling diver, with length the key to whether its luggage to check in or a carry-on friendly size. The Hot Shot is an amazing 20.9" (53 cm) in length, it fits in a carry-on bag with room to spare. The regular size Hot Shot fins weigh in at a mere 3.28 lbs (1.5 kg).
Now is it powerful enough for a fully outfitted Scuba Diver? You bet it is! Due to the Mid-Foot Flex Joint, the entire length of blade flexes and provides forward thrust. With a traditional fin, the third of the blade in front of the foot pocket is considered dead space and provides no forward thrust. The result is that the Hot Shot provides the power of a fin that is 30% longer! The Hot Shot is geared with silicone slings (power bands) that are loaded with energy during the power stroke, which they release prior to the fins upstroke, and theyare adjustable!
The Power Bands form the Hot Shot Twin-Speed Gear Shift. These pure silicone bands can be adjusted, even when worn, to change the speed-to-effort ratio of the fin blade. In addition, the blade is made from a semi rigid customized techno-polymer that gives an excellent spring effect and flexibility to maximizethrust, and the rubberized ribs of the blades are made of two different compounds to provide the greatest elasticity. So if you are looking for the perfect travel fin look no further!
