Questions about this item:
Mike S I think I have decided on these fins I am new to diving and do have knee problems and what I've read through fin reviews is split fins will help relieve stress on my knee. My question is I've chosen the Akona Deluxe Molded Sole 3.5 mm Boots (AKBT138) size 10 and these fins in size medium. will these accommodate the boots i've chosen? Ive narrowed my choice based on reviews and ultimately price as I really didn't want to spend 140 on fins but as salesman said in an email earlier today a cheaper fin is rarely a good idea and I would rather enjoy myself while in cozumel than regret it because of a fin choice.
JOHN C There is a Tusa size chart on the web page. It states medium is good for 9-11 men's shoe size. I have size 9 feet and medium fit me fine.
KENNETH S yes the boots will work fine and these fins are awesome!!!!Most if not all leg cramping will be gone!!!!
NICHOLAS M Have the same fins and boots with spring straps and they work great.
FRANCIS B A medium would fit but if you have the choice of a large go with that as it'll be more comfortable and fitting. Though a medium would just fit that boot.
SAMUEL W I have recently purchased these fins in a medium and they are great fins. Smoothe and easy on the legs. The medium size is somewhat borderline for a size 10. Normal boots would work perfectly. Boots with oversized molded soles may be a problem. Only looking at the photo of the akonas, it is a maybe and will probably come down to how you prefer your fins to fit.
PAUL C I am on my second pair of these fins, my old ones were yellow and I had planed to do a shark dive where they wouldn't allow yellow so I bought new blue ones, the new fins were a little stiffer which was good because the old ones were a little whimpy.
I wear a size 11 short boot and use an extra large fin. I have noticed that the sole thickness makes a difference on how these fit. I went from a thin soled boot that fit a little loose to a thick sole boot which is a good fit. My old boots were Henderson gold core which they don't make anymore to a Bare short boot which I highly recommend if you plan to shore dive in Bonaire in the future. The Bare boots run a little large, might want to size down one size.
I don't think mediums would be big enough in my option, go for large. Spring straps are a good idea, go for the short ones, you may have to return and get the medium spring straps.
MONTHAKAN R I am a girl that wears a comparable men's size 7. I have mediums so you should probably go to a large.
CHARLES W I don't have any knee problems but, these fins don't seem to be hard on my joints. I wear size 9 TUSA molded sole slip-on boots and there is plenty of room in the toe box. Before you take these fins on vacation, suggest at least one session in the pool so you can get accustomed to the split fins.
JOE B In my opinion, and I do a LOT of Deepwater diving, split finds are completely over-hyped. It's complete BS. Not only are they not better, I believe they're worse, as you don't get as much propulsion because water escapes through the damn splits. I abandoned them because I got tired of kicking more for less propulsion. The thing that is nice though is the angled fin, that does indeed improve comfort. My recommendation is regular fins that are angled..

Tyler P how long are these fins? i know that some fin bags can be small so i would like to know so i can buy the right size.
JOHN G Tyler: My fins are mens size M-ML and the lenth of mine are 24 1/4 inches. I have more than one pair of fins. I use the Tusa's the most, love them.ATLDIVER.
Ellen W This will be my second pair of Tusa Fins. My Imprex Tri-Ex are a small and fit well with my booties that are a women's size 8. Would i order the same size in this style? Some of the Q&A comments state to order up.
MONTHAKAN R I have only had these fins and believe they are true to size. I have mediums and I fit a size 9 women's shoe. Hope that helps.
Val P Anyone know how these fins stack up against Hollis F-1 jet fins? I'm not sure which to buy. Thanks.
JOHN C I can't speak to the Hollis but I have two pairs of the xpert zoom and have been diving with them for three years in different conditions and they have ways performed well for me. High current is no problem.
DONALD T You will never go wrong with the Tusa X-pert Zoom Z3's. Love mine, and I compared them with every other similar fins. These are the best!
b b It is mentioned below in several question/answers that the straps come installed/attached. Mine did not - i see screws, buckles, springs, etc, all seperate. Do they usually come installed? Also, the fins (per recommendation) were bought size Med for a Women's size 9 foot. With 6.5mm boots, these appear a little big. Did we buy the right size? Anything to look for? Feet seem to drop a little deep into the pocket. Thanks!!!
TEGRATEK C Mine came with the rubber straps installed and a seperate bag with the
quick spring straps with instructions on how to install them .
The spring straps are great !!!!!!
They make it easy to slip your fins on with two fingers and they always
stay tight.
These Fins seem to run a little large.... I down sized mine, Leisure pro
people make exchanges easy and fast !
Get the right fit....... nothing hurts more them a flipper rub sore in salt water !!
Hope this helps
NANCY B I don't even remember if mine were installed when they arrived, but I do know they are not difficult to get on. I like my boot to fit fairly deep in the pocket, so my drysuit boot fits in there pretty deep. I think to some extent it is personal preference.
SCOT P Mine weren't attached, but they were fairly easy to get installed. Mine came with an allen wrench to use. I would say after you install one spring strap and try the fin on with the boots you would normally wear. It doesn't have to be super tight, just as long as long it is snug behind the heel. I would say if you have at least 3" of heel outside of the foot pocket, the straps should fit fine.
I really like mine. I have been diving in them for almost 2 years now.
You did good.
JACKIE C My buckles did not come attached, we had to put them together. The fins you bought are too big. I wear a 6.5 boot and my fins are a xs-s usa sixe 5-7 and they fit perfect. Whoever recommended you buy that size fin with your little feet did a dis-serviice to you. I absolutley love the fin, it is my second pair. I have used the standard buckle and the spring strap and the spring strap is much easier for me, especially when you are flopping around in a rocking boat. Hope this helped.
Jackie.....
RANDY G I bought the springs to go on a pair of turtle fins I wear with a dry suit. They do not come installed and I think there were some extra parts that may have been used in different applications. I don't remember what size fins I bought. They were for my daughter. I do remember there was plenty of room in the foot pocket. They may run just a little big
Shopper I want to wear these over a dry-suit boot. I wear size 12 boots. Will the Large be big enough? The picture maks the look like they are designed to be used w ith bare feet or simple neoprene slippers.
HARRY C I bought a size 9 in the boots and the very comfortable. I wear them barefoot. To give you an idea on the sizing. I wear a size 10 in shoe and 9 1/2 in boot. However, I did not want any slipping with the dive boots so I bought the size 9. I was worried that they might be too small and cause blisters or just hurt but they are very comfortable. Once I have them on I don't take them off at all and that is beach dives and boat dives. Hope that helps.
RANDALL G Should work fine. I wear a size 12 in Henderson aqua lock boots in 5mm and it fits good. I'm sure I could easily wear 7mm boots with them no problem. I got the size large and on the fins they say large/xlarge size 10 to 14. I would see no problem if some had a larger foot than me fitting. I wouldn't want a smaller size but wouldn't want them any bigger. And they are designed to be worn with boots, not bare feet or slippers.
Randy
MARK H I don't use a dry-suit by do use booties w/ a ribbed sole and they fit OK. LP is excellent to deal with so try them and if they don't fit return them. My fins shipped w/ the adjustable OEM straps and the spring straps so you will also have the option of using adjustable straps instead of the spring straps if the spring straps are too tight.
WILLIAM B I wear a size 12 shoe and bought these for a warm water vacation since I usually dive cold water with a DUI dry suit. They are good fins for the price and I wore them with a wet suit boot. With a DUI rock boot they didn't fit.
I use a scuba pro seawing Xxl and they are great for propulsion. I do a lot of diving in tight spaces and use Force Fins Xxl which are also superb and can be adjusted with the insert for rock boots or wet suit boot.
OSVALDO D Mine were a medium and were very tight over my Waterproof drysuit integrated boots. I had to get another pair of fins that fit much better so went with Hollis F1s. Good luck!
ISMAEL R if it helps, I wear a mens size 9 7mil bootie (non dry suit though), and the mediums fit perfect. bare feet or slippers would not work with these, so they should fit as well as any other open heel
AARON R I wore these fins with rock boots and they fit OK, but I wear a size 11 shoe, and they were snug. A size 12 might be too tight, but it depends on the brand of drysuit boots you have. I would get the large and if they don't fit, trade them up. LP pays for shipping both ways for size exchanges.
ANDREW J They work well with my size 10 drysuit boots - even better with the spring straps . The best thing to do is to go to your local dive store and buy them from there - you can try them and maybe even return them for a different size if needed. Your local dive store is an excellent resource and you'll miss it when it;s gone!
THOMAS D I am also a size 12 and wear these fins with neoprene boots. The large fin with the large spring straps were actually too large and I had to exchange the straps for the medium size for a comfortable fit. I am not sure how large the dry suit boots are, but these had plenty of room for the front of the foot.
vincent l How heavy is items?with the box.
KRISTINE T Their great in the water as for the weight I have no idea.
MICHAEL E I do not remember how heavy the box was as I bought them with a bunch of other stuff last year, however the fins are NOT flimsy cheap things. They will not replace your weight belt :) but they do have a bit of weight to them. The side ribs that extend up to the foot pocket are real thick which adds to the durablility and the weight. Exact weight is probably pretty close to what leisure Pro advertises though. If I remember correctly they come in a plastic bag (in a box for shipping). The catch I had with them was that I could not fit them in my bag very well with my PCD, and other gear. This is probably due to the angled blade. I bought them just before going to Cozumel and airport security had me take everything out of the bag at X-Ray and it took a long while to get everythign rearranged. If you are worried about stripping ounces off your gear weight you might want a cheaper (less durable) fin. If however you are just concerned about carrying them around, do not be, the weight is comparable to every other fin I have owned. I like them. I bought my girl a pair of Subaquatics fins only because she wanted pink, and I think the weight is about the same.
Melissa W Are these neg or pos buoyant or neutral?
JESSE B They are neutral and great fins!
JOHN G I say neg. I really don't notice them at all. But I use a blade fin for cavern and wreak diving, and for diving in strong current.
PAUL H My grandson droped one as he was coming out of the water and it sank to the bottom of a freshwater lake. I would call that negative buoyancy. We both own a pair of these and like them.
NICHOLAS M Love them. No problems with buoyancy and very easy kicking underwater. Also great as far as getting them off and on with the spring straps.
Daniel P i am getting these fins and am a size 10us/mens and my girlfriend is a size 10us/woman's. we are both getting a set. What size do we need for each?
JOHN G 10 us mens,size M-ML.Womens us size small.
AMY S These were purchased for my daughter - she wears a size 9us/womens so we puchased a medium. It is actually a little large for her foot. I would suggest for a 10us/womens that you also buy the medium. I believe it would fit very well.
NICHOLAS M Looked at my order from last year and I am also a size 10 men's. I ordered a Medium size and they fit fine with a bootie.
Daniel P do u have really wide feet? it is my curse!
NICHOLAS M Average width but these fins seem to have plenty of room even with a bootie and the spring straps make it fairly easy getting them off and on.
G B I heard split fins are not good with currents. Does this more rigid newer model suffers the same problem or these are good with currents?
WILLIAM R GB I have used the Z3's in several areas including fast currents (5+ knots). I did not experience any problems. The Z3's provided more than adequate propulsion without causing leg muscle issues. It can feel like you are not developing full power because of the split fin design. The fins worked well in normal currents and added maneuverability not obtainable with straight fins.
Hope this helps!
Bill
ELBERT W I've recently had a couple dives where we were going against a fairly strong current. I would say that I did better than many of the other divers whom some had to be rescued with a skiff. I don't think that there is any disadvantage in regard to current, it just depends on the diver.
MILES H I actually found these to be very effective in mild to medium currents. While u haven't used them in strong currents yet, they are very responsive. I like them very much. Hope this helps
JAMES T Can't answer your question completely since I have not been in a strong current with them. But I've been perfectly happy with the fins and would purchase them again. They give great control and are not fatiguing like some stiff fins I have used.
ALON B the Tusa X-Pert Z3 are my first split fins so I can not compare to older models. I used them in currents and they served their purpose well. Hope it helps. they are good fins. you won't regret buying them.
LAWRENCE H These are powerful fins that perform well. Having the split fin feels like there is more thrust with a steady kick that wont tire you so fast. The main reason I bought them was for the spring straps which are too cool. Easy on and off, always feel secure. Lots of my friends are using this fin and I haven't heard a single complaint.
MICHAEL B I have not encountered heavy current with these fins. I use these fins in my daily duties as a PADI Divemaster in various environments. What I am sure of is that I have to expend less energy with these fins than I do with others. I own 2 other pair of fins and these by far are the best, for the price, I have ever used.
JAMES F I have used these fins in mild currents and have enjoyed them very much. I always try to dive drift dives in currents, so I guess I may not be much help.
MIKE L Spit fins are great for moderate currents ,you will use less energy and less chance of cramps. I have never had a problem swimming against a current with my Tusa x Pert z3 fins. They are one of best fins I ever have dove with.
HANS W I have not had issues with the currents using these fins. I drift dove in the Caribbean last October. The currents in our particular location were pretty strong. But maneuvering in those conditions was effortless.
The reason I switched to these fins was to reduce knee and ankle strain. They are awesome. I had no issues with fatigue during rescue diving course.
The spring straps worked very well. The only thing I'm not crazy about regarding the spring straps was the install process. Just not as easy as you might think. Also, they look very weathered after being exposed to the salt water. It doesn't effect the performance so don't worry about that. These are the only spring straps for these fins...so, it is what it is.
Hope this helps.
STEPHEN L I love my split fins. No leg cramps, little effort.
DONALD T I have only used the fins in non current situations. So I can't say for sure how they will do in a current. But I absolutely loved them in non current conditions.
MICHAEL J These are excellent fins. I hav had no problem with currents. Hope this helps you.
STEWART P My wife and I have done a few drift dives in mexico with these fins and we have not had a problem, the current is pretty strong there.
CHARLES W These fins have plenty of thrust, more than my old Avantis. I bought them for the spring straps. Most of my experience is drift diving in the winter months off West Palm and Jupiter. Plenty of split fins in evidence, in spite of the current.
JOHN C I have two sets of these fins and have used them in cozumel mexico in very strong currents and have not had a problem. The angle of the fins really helps propel you with minimal effort. The reason i have two pairs is that I like them that much.
Shopper How much do they weigh?
LeisurePro S I have a weight of 5.5 pounds for the Z3 fins.
Shopper I wear a woman's 8-8.5 shoe. Would a small fin be good, or medium? Also, the spring straps that comes with the fins, do I pick the size of straps, or do you pick it?
LeisurePro S I would recommend a medium (especially if you'll be wearing them with a boot). The spring straps come standard, already attached.
Shopper I wear a 10.5-11.5 US size shoe\sneaker. What size fins should I buy?
G B I have Mens 5mm size 9 US boots with rubber sole. What fin size do you recommend?
LeisurePro S I would recommend a medium.
Shopper hello, can you tell me the complete length of the medium size. hoping to fit them in my carry on. do you think these will work well for snorkeling, i want to use them with booties with soft rubber bottoms. thanks for your advice!
LeisurePro S Size med is 23.5" long. They work well for snorkeling and diving.
