I've heard a lot of differing opinions on Sherwood's entry line of regs. Let me say this: the Magnum will meet anyone's desire to dive in open water with comfort and ease. This reg doesn't cause a lot of jaw fatigue. The unit will come with a different "exhaust" option that YOU SHOULD INSTALL. This will move the bubbles further away from your face and mask causing far less regulator bounce and helping you enjoy the dive more. If you don't, I can tell you from experience that the bubbles will come directly up your face and if you have a weak fitting or poorly fitting mask, you'll be clearing the water from it all dive. Do yourself a favor -- it's only two screws to change it out and since the optional "wide" exhaust is included, why not use it? One thing of note is that this reg caused me to have a really dry mouth after two and a half hours of use. It might have been diving conditions that day or really, really, really dry air! Regardless, you should plan on having some extra water in you to prevent dehydration. Cost, performance and name brand make this reg worth a second look.

This is an unbalanced piston reg that does not offer and user serviceable adjustment and minimal technician adjustment. Breathing becomes challenging at depths greater than 100 feet. The oval design lowers the surface area of the diaphragm changing the breathing profile from the normal circular designs. The ovular design also makes purging the system more difficult. I have owned sherwood products for 17 years now. I do not dive them in overhead environments or on deep dives. While they are bulletproof, they do not offer the same cost to performance ratio offered in times past when fully balanced systems were $1000 each. If you are a weekender diving open water on a budget, this reg will certainly do the job. If you are looking for the ultimate in comfort or plan on pushing limits, get a fully balanced diaphragm 1st and 2nd stage. The extra cost is worth it. When you get any reg take it to a shop and have its performance optimized as they are not shipped from the factory this way.

About Me Casual/ Recreational
Comments about Sherwood Magnum Regulator,:
My wife and I primarily dive in warm water usually in Bonaire at least twice a year. We have been using Sherwood regulators for over 12 years. They just plain work!

Sherwood user since 83, good products

solid performer and have never had problems with Sherwood. From cleaning the bottom of the boat in Alaska to the Blue Hole in Belize at 140 feet, the reg works flawlessly. The entire family dives either bruts or magnums since 83. Not only would I buy Sherwood again, I have several times. (although they function perfectly after a decade of use, I buy a new first and second stage every ten years)
Great Buy

The only bad thing about this reg is that it's EXTREMELY difficult to purge. The plastic (or whatever material) on the front is super stiff, especially in temperate waters. You have to grab it with your fingers, and push really hard with your thumb in order to purge! It breathes great, and isn't a problem unless you frequently remove your regulator from your mouth. I'd buy again though, got it used from Leisurepro for a great deal.
Awesome!
