Questions about this item:
Shopper Hi Team, I am 5.9 Foot tall, 34.5 inch Waist for 165 lbs, thinking to buy size M, would that fit? Tanks for your support
KIM R My son has a medium and I have a large. Based on his description I would go with a large.
GEORGE W You and I are the exactly same size. The Medium will fit perfectly.
HOLLY O Yes medium would fit
WILLIAM M G I am 5'3" 155 lbs. My chest is 42" and waist is 33". I purchased this BC in large and it fits great. Billy
Shopper I am 6'3" tall, 275 lbs, I have used the Avid in a 2XL, and found that I had all the straps pulled tight to get it on, if I went to the XL, would that be a better fit?
MATT L I'm 5'9 and 165-170 lbs. So it might not be relevant. I have the medium an felt that is an ideal fit. I have had several dive instructor complement me on the fit. Double check the sizing chart or contact Leisure Pro.
RALPH B No, I have a XL, I have 5'10" and around 220 and the XL is not loose at all so if I were to give advice on the subject, stay with the 2XL.
Shaun V How much does the BC weigh? Thanks
NICK D Seven pounds and 11 ounces
DAN M It is not lite but it is well made. I am a avid diver with over 2000 dives so it gets used regularly. I had been thinking of replacing it because I was having trouble with the inflator valve. I called Leisure Pro and there was a free replacemant for the valve so I will be keeping it and expect many more dives from it. I highll recommend it.
Shopper I have just looked on another add site to double check the ditchable and non ditchable weight and the add for this vest said 26lbs ditchable and 10lbs non. The kind people on this site say different, witch is correct?
DAVID C the non ditchable weight is held in two pockets at the back of the BCB... two 5lb weights are possible so ten non ditchable is a good number. the ditchable weights are contained in two curved pouches on you hips. to get 13 lbs in each you probably need curved weights.. two 5 lbs starnard weights fit easily enough in each pocket ... so 20 is easy to ditch. 26 needs curved weights or shot bags to achieve.... I have never tried tthis as i have never needed that much weight ... but thats my best guess....Great BCD very comfortable on me.
BRIAN S Each quick release pouch is rated for 10 Pounds, for a total of 20 pounds.
There are two smaller trim pockets on the back sides that could probably hold about 2 lbs each.
JAMES B You can ditch the 26 lb but not the 10 lb. Its a good vest just make sure you get the correct size.
CHRISTOPHER C I dive with between 16 & 20 lbs and I use the 2 clip in pouches, (left & right) You can see them in the pic, they are the grey handles, just pull the grey handle and the weight pouch comes right out...
So I just put in an equal amount of weight in each pouch, which are both detachable. Love the BC...
Shopper How much ditchable weight will it hold? And how much additionnal weight non ditchable will it hold?
BRIAN K Each weight pouch can hold 10 pounds. So, total ditchable weight is 20 pounds. Two trim pouches in the back (non-ditchable weight) can hold up to 5 pounds each for a total of 10 pounds. Hopefully, you'd never need to carry that much weight.
JAYSON H I have put upto 6 pounds of wt. in each ditchable pocket. There are pockets on the BC which would allow you to add additional wt. if you needed it. I have not use extra wt in these pockets and using non ditchable wt. probably should be used sparingly. But I do feel that you could put upto 3 to even 6 pound in the pockets . Hope this helps and enyoy your diving.
SCOTT D Each of the 2 ditchable weight pockets will hold maximium of 10lbs each. Each of the 2 non ditchable weight pockets will hold max 5lbs each. For a grand total of 30lbs of total weight.
Shopper What are the differences between the 2007 model and the 2010-2011 model?
JIMMY B not a hole lot color changes, maybe a little better pockets, but you can,t go wrong with the bc.no,bs
Andrew B What are the differences between the 07 and 2011 models?
David R They are very similar just different wt pocket system and newer look to it
STEVEN L I have one of each, not alot of differences between them. They changed how the weight pockets clip in. I think I prefer the way my '07 pockets clip in over my 2011 model. When putting the weight pockets in the 2011 model, they seem to hang up a little. But they go in pretty easy. Other than that, I don't see much difference. I love diving with this BCD. I'm a S&R (search and recovery) diver, so this BCD has alot of useful rings and pockets on it. Hope this helps you with this question. I hope you dive safe and have fun doing it.
LARRY D None that I can see. They said the 07 was a new style when I got mine and I didn't see a difference then. Great bcd, you'll enjoy diving it.
Shopper Will you recommend this BC for a beginner?
LISA H Yes, this is a great BCD for a beginner
ANDREW E I would definetly recommend this BCD for a beginner and also for more advanced levels. This is the first BCD I ever owned but I had borrowed or rented many different models prior to owning this one. I can honestly say this is a very good BCD.
JAMES B I bought this BC for my wife in 2006 and she was new to diving at the time. It has traveled extensively and performed very well in the years since then. I would certainly recommend it for a beginner or experienced diver. The only modification we made was to fit it with a scuba pro air 2, but that is just our preference for an alternate air source. Durable, easy to use, comfortable.
ABDERRAHIM N Yes, I recommend this BC for a beginner. I used it and I like it.
NICK D I probably have 250 dives with the Sherwood Avid and have no reservations about recommending it to others.
For a beginner, you must remember that it is an integrated weight jacket which is probably not what you used in training.
It also has a double tank strap which is more stable but a little more difficult to slide on the tank.
There are enough d-rings to accommodate extra items, the pockets are large and secure when the zipper is closed.
There is, at least on my model, a small pocket that I believe was intended to hold a special small snorkel. That snorkel is a Sherwood model which I do not think is available. I use it to house my roll-up safety sausage.
But yes, it is a very good BCD
Nick
EDWIN C Absolutely! Its a great bc that I still use today some 5 years later. It's very durable and still looks brand new after many dives.
SHERI B Yes. It is a good BC for a beginner.
Shopper So I guess I sld get XL since I'm 6.4-230lbs 38 waist?
BRIAN E Yes I would get the XL when I bought mine I was 6.1 and about 230-240. It will fit fine and have had it for probably 3-4yrs and have not had any problems with it. If you need any more help just ask, from your fellow diver
Brian
RON G I bought the XL for my son. He's 6'1" and about 220. Probably a little larger in the waist than you, but not much larger. So, it sounds like the XL would likely work. He used it for dry suit diving, so it had plenty of lift to handle the job.
Good luck.
KENNETH H I use a medium, so I'm not sure I can help with this question. I can only say that I believe the tables that Sherwood provides for sizing work well. I am 5-7, 150 lbs, 38 chest, 32 waist. The Avid fits fine and works well for me. The double strap can sometimes be difficult to get tight and tank sits high so first stage of regulator is right behind your head.
Shopper I know you probably hate questions like this, but I cant figure out what size I need. I am 5'10" 38" waist an 210lbs. any help is appreciated. What Size should I get?
MATT D I am 6'0" and 175 lbs with a 33 inch waist, and I bought a Medium (MD). That should give you some idea. There is a fair bit of adjustability within the BCD, and for what its worth I really like this BCD.
LARRY D I'm the same size but a 36 waist and use a large.
MICHAEL L I would say a medium or large depending on your chest size.I have a 40 waist and 49 inch chest I take an extra large. That is plenty big enough for me.The cumber bun is a little long fo me.I guess they are made for big fat guys, just incase.Hope this helps.Mike.
STEVEN M I'm 6'2" and 215 with 36" waist and I have a large. It fits great. I would think that would work perfect for you. It's adjustable in width and length.
Steve
Shopper My current BCD has only one strap holding my tank on. I want to buy a BCD which holds my tank firm to my back, not floating from side to side. Does the 07 Avid CQR2 have a second strap to hold my tank vertical and firm to my body?
ANGEL G Yes, the Sherwood 07 Avid CQR2 BCD has a second strap to hold your tank. It provides the extra support that you are looking for. It is a little bit tricky to get the tank in it but once is done, it's completely secure and firm.
JAMES D Yes, there are two tank straps. However, some find that two straps make it more time consuming to attach the tank. Also, a function of the tank being stable on your back is a function of a proper fitting BC. I have well over 500 dives on this BC and find it to be one of the best on the market for the money.
BRANDON F Mine has two straps and works very well holding the tank.
DAVID H Yes, it has 2 tank straps. Holds tank secure & in place. Overall i am very pleased with both mine & my daughters avid bcd.
TIMOTHY D perfect bc. Two straps and plenty of hooks and two pockets. Over three hundred dives and counting. absolutely no problems.
MICHAEL L Hello Yes,it has two straps for the tank. They work great.Pull the velcro srap tight velcro down then pull the platic hinge down.I love it.
HARRY J Yes it does.....it's a great BCD, buy it, you'll love it.
HARRY J Yep it sure does. This is a great BCD.... I'd buy it again right now. I have about 300 dives on mine and it has very very little visible wear. The slight fading is no doubt from the time I spend in the pool as a Divemaster, and it is very very slight as well....hardly noticeable. Love all the D-rings, the toughness, the folding snorkle pocket, that I use for a handy back up light pocket. I've never lost a weight pocket, and the chest strap isn't too high like I've seen on a lot of models....Good Luck, and safe diving.
Christopher S Is there any reason this BCD wouldn't be compatible with the Cressi Ellipse AC10 regulator?
GRETCHEN C I have owned both types, the cressi is slow to dump air and hard to get parts for. The AVID is a stong BC and I have 2 of them 03 and 07. My 03 still looks new and I use it with my students. It litterally has hundreds of dives on it. My 07 AVID is one of my ocean BC's and I use steel 120. AVID hands down!
JOHN K Dear Chris: As long as the low-pressure inflater hose coupling is compatible with the nipple on the Avid BC, these components should go nicely together.
John
ERIC J I love my Sherwood Avid. The power inflater uses a standard connection, so I don't see a problem at all.
I switched out the power inflater and attached an Aquatec Air 3 inflater. I liked the idea of being able to signal an audible alarm both under and on top of the water. Unfortunately, other divers overuse their underwater noisemakers. So, it's sort of the car alarm syndrome. On the two occasions (over hundreds of dives) that I gave it a short signal, nobody came to check on me. Once, it was because I was aborting a dive and wanted to let people know; the other time I was a cool shark. Buddies heard me both times, but didn't response because their sick of hearing people make noise underwater. So, basically, the Aquatec underwater alarm would be useless in an emergency situation.
The weight pockets are secure but not difficult to pull out. I like the two zipper pouches and the rings. It has a great lift. I'm a big guy, but it seems I'm higher on the surface than other divers when I inflate my BC. That's a big plus, because I dive where people sometimes jet skit. I like to be up and visible if I surface away from the boat, and this BC does that for me.
The snorkel pouch is great because I hate wearing snorkels on my mask, yet I want to have a snorkel with me when I dive. I recommend getting the Sherwood collapsable snorkel that goes with this BC.
Long story short, I'm very happy with my bc and use it for cold-water diving in California as well as in tropical locations.
LARRY D Works great with any reg. Diving mine since 2006 and love it.
Hope this helps.
LARRY D Not a problem, works with any Reg. Diving mine since 06 and love it.
Hops this helps.
Shopper Can this bc be set up for daul tanks?
LeisurePro S Sorry, the Avid cannot be set up for use with twin tanks. The best way to go for twin tanks is a harness/wing system with a backplate.
Shopper I'm 5'8" with a 43" waist, 47'' chest and weigh 238 lb . What size?
LeisurePro S I would recommend an XL.
Shopper Is the Avid considered a back inflated vest?
LeisurePro S No, the Avid is a jacket style BCD with wrap around air cells for extra stability. I have heard great reviews about it's performace at the surface.
Shopper Does this BC have a handle, so it could be lifted up with a tank attached?
LeisurePro S Unfortunately, there isn't a molded handle on this BCD.
Shopper What is the lift capacity for this BCD?
LeisurePro S The life capacity of the BCD varies with size. XS = 20 pounds, S = 25 pounds, M = 29 pounds, L = 32 pounds, XL = 36 pounds, 2XL = 36 pounds.
Shopper What are the major differances between the Sherwood Avid 07 and 08 models?
LeisurePro S Differences are mainly cosmetic. The 2008 also had some slight improvements made to the weight release system.
Shopper I'm 6'2 with a 39'' waist,40'' chest and weigh 194 pound--what size?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the large.
Shopper What is the dry weight of this BC?
LeisurePro S Shipping weight is 7.8 pounds.
Shopper I lost one of the integrated weight pockets from my Avid. Are replacements available?
LeisurePro S Yes. Here is the link.
Shopper Hi, I'm 5'7" with a 33" waist, 42" chest and I weigh just over 175. should I opt for the medium for better fit or large for more lift. thanks...
LeisurePro S I would recommend the large.
Shopper Does the Avid include the CQR weight pockets or are they 'optional' as on the Magnum BC?
LeisurePro S The Avid comes standard with the CQR integrated weight system.
Shopper Hello, I live in the northeast and I usually dive in cold water, so I need to lift around 32lb of weight and according to the size chart, I will need to buy this BC with a medium size but the lift capacity is only 29lb. are there other pockets where I could add another 2 or 4lb? Thanks.
Shopper do you need to purchase the bio tank lock as described. Does the BC come with the secondary air supply as pictured in the add? also, does BC come with holding tank straps?
LeisurePro S No Bio tank lock is needed. No secondary air supply is featured. This is the LP inflater and is included. Yes the BC comes with tank straps.
