BRIAN C I have about 300 dives on my Suunto D9 from local quarry/cave/lake dives to open sea dives around the world. The only problem I've had with the D9 transmitter failing is when I switch to dive mode and I'm next to another Suunto transmitter and actually pick up the signal from that receiver instead of my own. Once you get away from the other transmitter, the D9 will show a "fail" alert notifying you that it is no longer getting a signal from the transmitter. You can surface, reset the transmitter code on the D9 so it tries to find another transmitter. This is not usually a problem except on a boat dive with 20 other people. Even then, it's only happened 5 or 6 times.
I love this watch. Fair warning though. LeisurePro is not an authorized dealer and can offer NO factory warranty other than their own warranty. A recall on the D9 required service and although LeisurePro did do the service, once the offered warranty period is up, the unit will become useless if a recall or service upgrade is needed. You can get batteries changed but no major service. The serial numbers are not recognized. I like this watch so much that when/if I need a major service or programming upgrade, I will buy a legitimate version again.
PIERCE G Hello Peter, there is no guarantee that the transmitter will not give inaccurate readings at times. If you know a dive site well as well as your average air consumption at different depths you may not feel that you need an accurate reading the entire dive. And the transmitter may (read will most likely) cease to function if you dive often.
Many D9 users and all advanced wreck/deep/tech divers eventually return to good old fashioned spg, and can the transmitter.
The D9 I purchased has broken down several times - replaced twice by Suunto and the last one gave inaccurate readings after a battery replacement . The authorised Suunto shop says the module is faulty and it will cost over 500 $ to replace, the same repair expert (Whitetip divers Manila Philippines) said that Suunto only rates these for 500 dives before they fail or need full overhaul - this sounds ridiculous for a dive computer at this price but if you dont use it too much it is nice jewelry.
I still like my stinger which after about 8 yrs has had a $120 overhaul and still works good, albeit put through alot less dives per year than the D9.
Hope this answers your question - Happy Diving

Shopper What happens if you violate a no decompression limit or deco stop? Does it go into error mode like the Helo2?
LeisurePro S Yes, the D9 will go into an error mode if you violate a stop/depth for a period of more than three minutes. You have the grace period to correct your actions/level, otherwise, you will have to wait 48 hours before diving again.
Shopper Do you sell the transmitter by itself?
LeisurePro S Here is the transmitter sold by itself for the D9.
Shopper The picture looks like in different color than other D9s in the Internet. Is this the metal version, black or grey?
LeisurePro S This is an older stock photo and it looks a little wacky. This is the model with the black strap. If you are interested in the model with the titanium body and strap, you can find it sold with the transmitter here.
Shopper Will this computer monitor a 2nd or 3rd tank?
LeisurePro S The D9 only monitors the user's tank. Check out the VT3 which can monitor up to 3 other tanks.
Shopper You stated that the battery for the D9 computer and transmitter are not user serviceable? What is the estimated battery life of the transmitter?
LeisurePro S Assuming an average amount of dive use, the battery should have a life of up to three years.
Shopper it seems that this product doesn't display the depth in the metric system. the degree is centigrade or fahrenheit scale? can i change these options manually?
LeisurePro S Yes will work in imperial or metric
Shopper i read australian's question and your answer. but it's not including answer of my question about the degree.the answer possible for the degree?
LeisurePro S Yes Fahrenheit our centigrade
Shopper I'm in Australia. Can or is the compass calibrated for this part of the world and is it easy to change from imperial to metric?
Shopper Are you able to change the battery yourself on the D9 computer and transmitter

Whats in the box:Wrist Computer, Transmitter, PC Interface Cable & Software, Digital Online Class Suunto D9 is a highly advanced all-in-one dive computer. It combines all dive-critical information - such as depth, time, tank pressure, decompression status and direction - in one instrument, conveniently mounted on your wrist Wireless air integration Wireless air integration, Suunto D9 allows you to monitor tank pressure and air consumption from your wrist. Tank pressure is displayed both numerically and graphically, and an estimation of the remaining air time is given throughout the dive Digital navigation Suunto D9 displays a graphical representation of a compass rose. The rose displays the cardinal and half cardinal points, and the current bearing is also displayed numerically. A bearing can be locked to help you follow a selected course, and directional arrows point towards the locked bearing. Multi-mode versatility Suunto D9 has three dive modes. The Air mode is used for diving with standard air, the Nitrox mode for up to three nitrox mixes, and the Gauge mode for use as a bottom timer. When in Nitrox mode, you can accelerate decompression by switching to a gas mix with a higher oxygen percentage. You can preset three different gas mixes (with between 21% and 99% oxygen) and set PO2 values for each individual gas. While diving, it's quick and easy to switch between enabled gas mixes. In the Gauge mode, Suunto D9 works as a bottom timer and also provides accurate profile sampling and bookmarking functions. A dive timer with a reset function displays the dive time in minutes and seconds. This is extremely useful for timing accurate bottom times and decompression stops. Flexible decompression Using the Suunto Deep Stop RGBM algorithm, Suunto D9 enables continuous decompression for optimal ascent time. For deeper dives, the Deep Stop option adds further protection with a series of deep stops between your maximum depth and ceiling. Plan and review You can test upcoming dives and view no-decompression time data for different depths before getting in the water with the built-in dive planner. When the dive is over, use the included Suunto Dive Manager PC software to transfer your dive data to your computer for further analysis and to maintain a detailed logbook featuring graphical representation of all your dives. As stylish on dry land as it is in the water As well as being a full-featured dive computer, Suunto D9 is a stylishly designed watch that can be worn as an everyday timepiece
