DESCRIPTION
The Impulse 3 snorkel is the newest in a line of superior snorkels offered by Aqua Lung. The Impulse 3's streamlined design is a hit with divers, as is it incredibly efficient dual-valve system, which prevents water from traveling through the snorkel and into your mouth. If in rare situations, water does enter the snorkel, a simple puff of air is all you need to clear the water through the snorkel's lower one-way valve.

The Impulse 3 is engineered with a more streamline ergonomic design than its predecessors, yet has kept all the features that have made this snorkel legendary among serious divers.

The replaceable Pure Silicone Comfo-Bite Mouthpiece, the most popular mouthpiecein diving today allows you to just rest the mouthpiece in your mouth requiring no biting down to keep it in position reducing jaw fatigue and increasing comfort. The easy-to-use snorkel keeper offers the diver that ability to don and ditch the Impulse 3 without hassle or frustration.

FEATURES
  • Comfo-Bite mouthpiece
  • Dual-valve system
  • Low-profile design for reduced drag
  • The Comfo-Bite mouthpiece is also replaceable if necessary
  • Snap-On snorkel keeper slides on the snorkel for the most comfortable position of the mask.

I started out with aqualung's total dry snorkel and switched to this after one season diving for abalone. What a difference having a good snorkel makes. With the total dry on calm days it was o.k. but as soon as it got choppy the valve was closing too often and interrupting my breathing. With the impulse 3 I never have this problem and the dry top diverts all water from going down into my mouth unless the snorkel is completely submerged by a wave for a couple seconds. I got the rigid pipe model as opposed to the flex model so when I'm ascending fast after a dive it doesn't feel like it's trying to twist out of my mouth due to the flexible tubing.

I bought this snorkel online because my local shop did not have a replacement mouthpiece for previous snorkel. I liked the reviews for the Impulse 3. However, when I went to use it, I was not happy. I had trouble finding a comfortable position for it where it would not frequently flood. I am used to having a flexible section and this snorkel is rigid (I can't remember if the one in the picture online was exactly like the one I got or not). The picture on the package that came with my Impulse 3 has a snorkel with a flexible section. I have never had a snorkel that flooded so frequently and that I actually had to come up and dump the water out because there was too much water to clear with one breath. I finally rented a snorkel for the rest of the week. I complained about my Impulse, and the guys told me why theirs was better and how to use theirs properly. As it turned out, I discovered that I could twist the bottom of my Impulse (the rental also did this) and make the angle better. The packaging doesn't mention this and I have never had a snorkel that did this before. Anyway, this helped the flooding and the guys pointed out that I should hold my head differently for snorkeling than for diving, and this also helped. In the end, the Impulse worked at least as good as the rented one. The mouthpiece is softer, but also a little bigger than I would like it to be. Also, I found the clip to be difficult to use, compared to other clips I have had. When I was scuba diving, I just gave up on the snorkel, and used my regulator. Now that I am home, I am hoping my dive shop can get the part for my old snorkel. I did like the color and the sleek look of the Impulse. Also, on a slightly calmer day, after several adjustments, I did get the Impulse 3 to work without frequent floods, but I wasted a lot of time thinking about it. I think that the packaging should mention the adjustable part, show the correct angle in the water, and tell how to use the clip. Perhaps all of this is my mistake for buying on line, as what I learned about this snorkel, I learned from guys in dive shops I visited-I was in Maui and there are a lot of shops. They told me this one was better for snorkeling, and that the one with flex was better for scuba, but I think the positive reviews on line were by scuba divers. Sorry to be so negative, but you asked.

Love the snorkel, best one I've had yet. Last weekend we did a few dives and the guys were all wondering why I didn't have a flexible snorkel. I told them you don't need one with this style, I know where the opening is at all times.

Spectacular snorkel. I use it while resting at the surface, either before descending or while waiting to get back on the boat after a dive. IT just works. The purge blows out easily and I never have had a problem with water entering the top. While snorkling I like to dive down 20-30 feet and take pictures. When i get back to the surface, it only takes a slight exhale to completely clear the snorkel. It lets you breathe easily without dealing with water near the mouthpiece.
