I decided it would be crazy of me to get back into the water w/o such a device....how stupid would I feel IF I ran into a situation where spare air was needed and I'd opted to save a few bucks. Just couldn't get those thoughts out of my head, so pulled the trigger. Why take the risk. How often is your dive buddy within reach...I mean close enough you could reach his octopus w/o having to take at least a few good kicks? Could you get there if you went to inhale and couldn't get that breath you needed RIGHT NOW...still got enough air to close up on your buddy and get to his octopus?
Spare-Air eliminates that concern.
It attaches easily to you BC...just remember to put it where you can REACH it easily. I found attaching it (open end down) near the lower end of my tank made opening the Velcro cover on the carry bag awkward...was out of the way yet retrievable, but took a few seconds to get to. Found this out while testing accessibility and function of it on one of my last dives of the 20 I did with Spare-Air at Cocos Island...no emergency, I had air and time to play with it.
The only downside I can see to Spare-Air is that you have to work a bit harder to draw each breath. Not a big price to pay to stay alive in a serious air emergency, however.

Purchased a spare air 3000 several years ago. had a out of air experience during a 15 foot safety stop-grabbed my spare air and it was empty. Air had leaked out. Purchased a new spare air 3000 and filled it. Before a dive a week later i checked unit and it was empty. filled it again and put it in water and could see small air bubbles leaking from mouthpiece area. tried to seal unit and it didn't work.

Comments about Spare Air Spare-Air 3000 3.0 Kit, Yellow:

Spare air is a great compact device that can save you in a bind. It holds just enough air to get you back. If you are in deco or want to make a safety stop this will not be the best choice. Gives about 10min of air on the surface.

great for a safe ascent at 30 meters but be aware of the safety leash. used mine for first time today and when i got back to the car noticed it had snapped near the crimps, don't want to see your bottle sink to bottom of the ocean.

Comments about Spare Air Spare-Air 3000 3.0 Kit, Yellow:

I purchased two SpareAirs, one as a gift and the other for myself, based primarily on other reviews. I expected a little higher quality from a backup safety-related device. SpareAir is simple to deploy - as advertised. However, the second-rate material in the lanyard clip is unacceptable to me. Losing the device, once deployed, due to a broken clip could be tragic. My lanyard clip broke the first time used, luckily in a training environment. The clip seems to be made of low quality plastic; it should have been made from brass or stainless. I'll be looking for two replacement lanyard/clips made of the right materials.

      Service and delivery comments:

Comments about Spare Air Spare-Air 3000 3.0 Kit, Yellow:

Bought as an emergency air source for diving. Tested but never needed for that purpose. Only a few breaths available at 100 ft, plenty at 30 ft. More than enough at depth to get to a buddy. Only tough thing was devising the best way to attach it to my BCD.

I also do pool maintenance, and use the spare air quite a lot - fill it off an 80 on the deck and I can stay down 5-10 mins to fix filter covers, take photos and such. Filling is a breeze and breathing is just fine. Haven't had any problems using it repeatedly over the past 3 years.

If you do get one of these though, remember that it is a tank and reg, so you do need to VIP it and replace O-rings each year and do a hydro every 5 years.
