DESCRIPTION

Whats in the box:1st and 2nd stages

The Brut is aptly named. It will absolutely do the job for any sport diver, and do it at a fraction of the cost of many high performance regulators. Maybe that's why rental operators and dive schools make Brut their number-one choice. the dry, positive-pressure first stage resists contaminants and meets the demands of rugged use. Second-stage features include sherwoods exclusive Venturi assist and variable fulcrum encased in a damage-resistant Triax housing for smooth, easy breathing and tough-as-nails dependability.

FEATURES
  • Dry spring chamber and one-way bleed valve.
  • Primary hose port with patented, primary air-sensing channel system.
  • Replaceable flow control element.
  • Compact design that reduces jaw fatigue and makes it a great traveling companion.

I initially bought the Sherwood Brut for both my wife and myself because of the price but like all new endeavors; the more you do something the more you need and expect out of your equipment. The Brut will perform but you get what you pay for. At depths greater than 70 feet and especially past 100 feet, breathing seemed labored. I found that this does not do well in the upside down position either. The one feature I actually liked was the mouth piece, it’s just as plain as the regulator but it seemed to be the right size for both my wife (who has braces) and myself. I currently use another regulator with a Comfo-Bite mouthpiece that hurts the roof of my mouth. The one thing I really disliked about the Brut is that you can’t control the flow rate, the day I decided to change Regs was the day my wife was startled underwater and had a hard time catching her breath. That incident convinced both her and I that it was time to move on. The Brut is a good basic regulator but don’t expect too much. Also… Both Regulators had the “O” rings fail where the second stage meets the hose. It was an easy fix but aggravating. We dive at least three times a week every week but if you only dive once or twice a year then this may be a better option.

      Comments about Sherwood Brut Regulator:

We received 10 of these regs to go into our rental stock about 3 months ago and now all of the regs are broken. The problem with them is this; the purge button or face plate detaches and jams into the diaphragm causing the regs to free flow. It's a good thing the face plate has 4 openings on it, that way you can pry the face plate off the diaphragm with your fingers to stop the free flow(until you purge the reg again)
When we first got them they worked great. I really hope they change the design because the old bruts were work horses. We now have 10 regs that are practically out of our rental pool.
