DESCRIPTION

Whats in the box:Computer, Compass, Quick Disconnect, HP Hose, Digital Online Class

Suunto Cobra combines several technological innovations into one product. It is the only air-integrated dive computer with air, Nitrox, and gauge modes complete with profile memory on the market. In addition to the extensive information provided by the Vyper, the Cobra displays cylinder pressure and estimated remaining air time. The air-consumption of a dive is stored as a used-pressure value in the logbook memory for future reference.

Cobra offers the new Suunto Reduced Gradient Bubble Model (RGBM), which is a unique algorithm for predicting both dissolved and free gas in the blood and tissues of divers. This development combines the latest knowledge in diving technology with the classic Haldane model. The advantage of the RGBM is its ability to adapt to a wide variety of diving situations. For added safety, the Cobra features the original Suunto innovation: separate three-step personal and altitude adjustments.

The SK-7 has set a new standard for dive compasses. The superior SK-7 features an exceptional tilt potential of +/- 30 degrees, which is 2-3 times larger than in conventional diving compasses, easy-to-read numerals on a phosphorescent compass card and a large side-reading window. The firm-grip bezel with a ratchetat every fifth degree is especially designed to prevent sand and dirt contamination, thus allowing smooth turning in all conditions.

With Suunto's Quick Disconnect you can connect the Cobra Computer Console to theregulator pressure port with only one quick and easy move. Disconnecting is justas simple. The Quick Release is installed between the Computer and the hose or between the hose and regulator first stage. This allows you to store the dive instruments in a safe place, independently from the cylinder and download the dive information easily in-between several dives. It is fast and reliable.

Great computer. I'm very happy with this purchase. The ascent monitor is very conservative (33ft / min) vs. recommended limit of 60ft / min. Be a SAFE diver though - so the slower the better. The recommended and mandatory safety stops are great. No fly countdown is great. Deco mode functionality is very good too. Definitely go with the QD option so you can take the unit off your BC for logging dives, travel, security, etc.

I did have some problems with the unit leaking from the QD connection. Good thing I checked the unit before I dived with it. I believe this was Leisure Pro's fault. I had to basically separate the QD from the computer and noticed that the grease they used near the o-ring had dried up and was flaking off. It was making a air-tight complete seal impossible. After cleaning it, everything was fine.

The display is great. I also love that it's air integrated. You can estimate bottom time based on air consumption during your dive. The amount of air you consumed is also available in your log after the dive. I also love the quick-disconnect hose. And setup is pretty intuitive.
There is no seconds timer for your safety stop and you can't see the seconds tick down when you are at depth. My Oceanic Veo200 does show seconds - I wish my Cobra did. I also noticed that my Cobra gave me less bottom time than everyone else who was on the boat. This can be an issue for repetitive dives and it was a little bit of an issue for me.
On another note, I bought my computer used in "Excellent" condition from LeisurePro. The computer arrived in good condition, but it was missing the clear protective cover, the compass and housing was pretty beat up and the battery had to be replaced before I could dive with it. Next time I will pay a few more bucks and buy new.

Good little computer

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass & Quick Disconnect:

I use this dive computer for wreck diving, cold water diving and tropical recreation diving. As well as some night diving from time to time. The only problem with this computer is that it is very conservative and freaks out at little things. If you ascend too fast for whatever reason from whatever depth, deep or shallow, it's liable to lock you out for 24 hours. Also, it gives you a "no fly" symbol after the shallowest of dives. It actually gave me a no fly signal after I put it in my dunk tank for 2 minutes. Other than that, this computer is just fine. It's very conservative, so would do fine for an average vacation diver. But it also supports nitrox up to 50% and supports pO2 up to 1.6. It's somewhat simple to operate (no dive computers are nowadays) for what it is and works fine for deep dives.

Overall, despite the cons I mentioned over the pros (I'm just trying to be informative) its a good, full featured dive computer. Also note, the housing of this computer is not a hard polycarbonate like you'd think. It's actually a somewhat hard, moderately flexible rubber. And this is a good things because it is more durable and handles dents and dings and bumps.

Also note, DO NOT spend the extra $ on the cable and download software. The cable can't hold a connection to save its life. The contacts are too small and the locking mechanism to lock the cable in place doesn't even work.

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass & Quick Disconnect:

This instrument was used lightly since 08. Stopped working this year...lightly means less than 10 dives with the unit. No warranty, and repair is not an option, according to company. So I have a [$] paper weight with Suunto written on it...bright side is my paper weight has a compass.

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass & Quick Disconnect:

I purchased this sight unseen...big mistake. The battery was near dead, the compass is really cheap and the software wasn't included but...you could buy it for another $75 bucks. While trying to get over my first impressions, I did use it and I purchased the quick disconnect and the software. No surprise when the USB connector didn't work and there were no instructions or diagrams on how to put anything together. While I was able to download the software without a problem, I still couldn't get it to find my dive computer. I heard people say that with the connection you have to "wiggle it" or "play with it"...really? Is that the way $700 equipment you rely on to keep you alive should work? To put the icing on the cake, the software had a HELP tab where they link you to;[@]You try it and see what happens. I guess they got too many requests so they decided to shut it down. After spending a decent amount of money and seeing the poor quality of the compass and USB connector, let alone the lack of customer support from the manufacture, I am extremely nervous relying on this as my primary dive computer. Stay away!
