DESCRIPTION

Whats in the box:Computer, Compass, HP Hose, Digital Online Class

Suunto Cobra combines several technological innovations into one product. It is the only air-integrated dive computer with air, Nitrox, and gauge modes complete with profile memory on the market. In addition to the extensive information provided by the Vyper, the Cobra displays cylinder pressure and estimated remaining air time. The air-consumption of a dive is stored as a used-pressure value in the logbook memory for future reference.

The Cobra offers the new Suunto Reduced Gradient Bubble Model (RGBM), which is a unique algorithm for predicting both dissolved and free gas in the blood and tissues of divers. This development combines the latest knowledge in diving technology with the classic Haldane model. The advantage of the RGBM is its ability to adapt to a wide variety of diving situations. For added safety, the Cobra features the original Suunto innovation: separate three-step personal and altitude adjustments.

The SK-7 has set a new standard for dive compasses. The superior SK-7 features an exceptional tilt potential of +/- 30 degrees, which is 2-3 times larger than in conventional diving compasses, easy-to-read numerals on a phosphorescent compass card and a large side-reading window. The firm-grip bezel with a ratchetat every fifth degree is especially designed to prevent sand and dirt contamination, thus allowing smooth turning in all conditions.

Great computer. I'm very happy with this purchase. The ascent monitor is very conservative (33ft / min) vs. recommended limit of 60ft / min. Be a SAFE diver though - so the slower the better. The recommended and mandatory safety stops are great. No fly countdown is great. Deco mode functionality is very good too. Definitely go with the QD option so you can take the unit off your BC for logging dives, travel, security, etc.

I did have some problems with the unit leaking from the QD connection. Good thing I checked the unit before I dived with it. I believe this was Leisure Pro's fault. I had to basically separate the QD from the computer and noticed that the grease they used near the o-ring had dried up and was flaking off. It was making a air-tight complete seal impossible. After cleaning it, everything was fine.

The display is great. I also love that it's air integrated. You can estimate bottom time based on air consumption during your dive. The amount of air you consumed is also available in your log after the dive. I also love the quick-disconnect hose. And setup is pretty intuitive.
There is no seconds timer for your safety stop and you can't see the seconds tick down when you are at depth. My Oceanic Veo200 does show seconds - I wish my Cobra did. I also noticed that my Cobra gave me less bottom time than everyone else who was on the boat. This can be an issue for repetitive dives and it was a little bit of an issue for me.
On another note, I bought my computer used in "Excellent" condition from LeisurePro. The computer arrived in good condition, but it was missing the clear protective cover, the compass and housing was pretty beat up and the battery had to be replaced before I could dive with it. Next time I will pay a few more bucks and buy new.

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass:

The warranty ran out this year. I changed the battery to prep for a vacation and it entered dive mode despite being dry. I put the old battery back in and it was fine, but every time the new battery was put in it would enter dive mode again. I took it to my shop and they tried multiple batteries with the same results. They called Suunto to see about repair or refurb, and they told them to tell me to buy a new computer. The shop guys were as shocked as me considering the price. When we looked online, we found MANY posts of people with the same problem, all occurring the year after warranty was over. It definitely raises concerns about a programmed obsolescence. Regardless, for a $1000, the level of apathy from the manufacturer is unacceptable.

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass:

This is a GREAT dive computer! Has all the needed functions and is reiliable. The back light works great at depth where you need it. The compass mounted on top is a plus! I wish it had a quick disconnect and the pc cable with the software with it but it does not. It cost extra. The one thing that I think I would change would be the sound alert, the beeps that give warnings. They are pretty weak and hard to hear and is the only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5. Everything else works great!

I went down on a dive to about 15ft and my depth read 0ft...my air was still reading so I kept close to my buddy and didn't go below 40ft. When I got home I Google d depth sensor problems with the cobra and this is an ongoing problem with Suunto Cobra computers with no help from the manufacturer...beware when buying this product! 10% of these computers have malfunctioned within five years and Suunto's customer service has been horrid! Don't say I didn't warn you! Happy hunting, safe diving!

Comments about Aqualung Suunto "Cobra" Air/Nitrox, Air Integrated Computer Console with Compass:

We have 3 cobra computers. The first one I bought has 460 dives on it. It has never had a problem except to replace the battery and scratch guard.
I bought 2 more for my sons about 5 years after I purchased the first one. Both started to self dive when turned on while on land. Each had about 150 dives. One was replced and it started to self dive after about 80 dives. I feel the quality has gone down with this computer.
