DESCRIPTION

Whats in the box:Kayak, 1 Seat,

This is a true hybrid of a dive boat and the Queen of the Sevylor Dive Fleet!

It is propelled by a double-bladed paddle and is a very stabile and responsive dive kayak. You can equip it with a 3 1/2 hp outboard motor to make it a sleek sport dive boat with two tail fins capable of reaching speeds that no conventional boat would be capable of with such a small motor. It is a glass bottom dive platform with a removable center dive hatch, which allows the diver to exit and enter the boat through an opening at mid-ship. The cover of the center floor section can be removed to expose a clear, see-through dive hatch. The XK2020 is equipped with 20 stainless steel D-rings for securing a set of double tanks and all other dive gear. It has Velcro tie downs for a kayak paddle, spear gun, shock stick, fishing pole, and dive flag. It is capable of mounting a large compressor for hookah diving.

FEATURES
  • High quality, composite fabric PVC with polyester core.
  • Double wall construction. Outer hull and inner tubes. Easy to repair!
  • Dive hatch with polyester cover. Hatch can be raised (pivots on a hinge) and allow the diver to enter and exit the boat at midship
  • See-thru floor. Remove the Polyester cover from the hatch and the Diveyak (tm) transforms into a "glass bottom boat. Dive hatch is locked in place by 3 brass snap hooks.
  • 5 separate air chambers, (4) controlled by Boston Valves and (1) new Jumbo valve.
  • Stainless steel D-rings to secure diving equipment or kayak paddles
  • 2 large drains on the bottom and multiple drain noles midship.
  • Bungee cargo net to secure various equipment.
  • 2 handles for lifting.
  • Kayak bucket seat with high back support and a fanny pack belt with 2 water bottle holders and a ditty pouch. Can be removed from the seat and attached to divers waist.

Comments about Sevylor DiveYak XK2020 (SVX2020):

I spearfish from the diveyak. It has lots of room for all of my gear. There are more than enough tie downs. It is easy to transport and setup. Only drawback is that it doesn't track too well. A minor problem. I am thinking about adding a motor to it soon.

Comments about Sevylor DiveYak XK2020 (SVX2020):

This first part is the cons, then after it's the pros.

Product weighs about 48 lbs, a little heavy and bulky for one small person to carry alone. First time I tried it, I used the foot pump that came with it. It took me 50 min. to fill, partly because the air hose kept popping out of both the pump and the boat valves, and I found out I didn't actually fill it completely (it needs to be completely filled). Since it was partially unfilled it tended to list on the side that was less filled. Also, the backrest wouldn't stay in place because not enough tension in the sides. And muscles in my legs, stomach and back that wouldn't have been used had it been completely filled, got stressed. Also, maybe it's because I'm only 5'1" with a short torso, but I found that the paddle and my hands kept hitting the d-rings and the side of the boat unless I made a concentrated effort not to do so. Maybe I just need an extra long paddle?

That being said. It is very easy to get into and out of. The second time I used it, a friend of mine completely filled it with his compressor in minutes. The seat stayed in place. I was completely comfortable sitting in it, paddling it. I didn't use any extra muscles. Before I bought this kayak, I had never kayaked before or rowed any type of boat or canoe.

I performed 2 diving tests. 1st test, I anchored the kayak in a shallow area, geared up, and went diving. Putting on my bcd was a little awkward as this was the first time I didn't have a solid surface to rest it on, but I managed it. 2nd test, I attached a line to the kayak and to myself, and it followed me wherever I went. I swam into water that was above my head, took my gear off in the water and put it in or attached it to the kayak. I got back into the kayak very easily, without tipping it, and with hardly any effort, then pulled my bcd and tank aboard and secured my gear. If I can do this anyone can do this.

When I ordered this product, I wasn't expecting to receive it for at least a week. Must have been a slow day for orders, because I received it the next day.

Comments about Sevylor DiveYak XK2020 (SVX2020):

[...]The boat is fantastic - very cleverly designed, tracks very well, nice effortless paddling and very comfortable. The divers hatch comes in very handy but you will get wet - not as much as in a rigid self bailing kayak - it is a diving (or swimming) platform and very safe when exiting or re-entrying the boat in open water. Very rugged and seaworthy it has become my favorite - A sail kit and a motor turns it into a paddle-motor-sailer with a glass bottom - not bad for under $1000.!
