The first time I used one of these, I dropped my compass overboard on a dive. The divemaster immediately tossed the reel overboard and it payed out to the bottom (40 feet or so). The divemaster then said, "There, go and get it." I followed the line to the bottom and found the compass on the second pass around the line.

The second time I used it, I lost my anchor and 100 feet of line overboard. I immediately tossed the reel in and it payed out to the bottom. I followed the line down and found the anchor within a minute.

I routinely use it to mark dive sites. I mark it with the reel and then anchor out of the kelp. I will not get underway without one. I own two of them.

Comments about Pelican Float with 100' Line:

Our underwater rescue team uses these to signal the surface we have a problem or to mark something we have found underwater. Alternatively they can be used on the surface to mark a location as there is a weight attached to the end.

There is a hitch style pin that holds the small weight in place. Once removed the weight can slide free and the line can unspool.

There is a small groove in the hard material the float is made from to help hold the line in place. I have found this difficult to get the line in. However, since the weight can't rotate, the line stays in place and does not unspool when it is all assembled. My 4-stars would be 5 if this one, small inconvenience was better.

Comments about Pelican Float with 100' Line:

The product is well designed and sturdy. It is larger than i thought from the pictures but managable. its roughly 3" across and 7" tall little large but still able to fit into BC pockets and clip onto D-rings. boyancy is good doesnt effect overall boyancy while swimming.

Comments about Pelican Float with 100' Line:

This is a great little item that comes in handy to mark objects of intrest. The equal bouyancy it has when the little weight is attached is a plus, making in barely noticible when I clip it to a D ring or throw in into a BC pocket. I also use it to do circualar sweeps of the bottom starting from the anchor during periods of low vis salvage. Long story short it definitely found a place in my dive gear essentials.
