Oceanic has a recall on the New QLR3 Integrated Weight System and trim pockets.

    Dear Valued Oceanic Customer,

Our records indicate that you previously purchased an Oceanic Excursion 2, Probe HLC, or Ocean Pro 1000D BC configured with the QLR3 Weight Pocket system

This email is to inform you that Oceanic has received several reports that weight pockets have unexpectedly released from BCs being used primarily for rental activities.

Extensive analysis by Oceanic engineers has shown that functionality of a limited number of QLR3 weight pocket systems has been adversely affected by the materials used. Inconsistencies in the properties of material rendered it to be unpredictable for use to adequately secure the weight pockets in the BC. Engineers have tested and evaluated replacement material that demonstrates superior performance and locking ability.

Oceanic has initiated a mandatory replacement (retrofit) of all original QLR3 Weight Pockets (with black stiffeners) with newly designed Weight Pockets (with gray stiffeners) that afford better locking.

Original QLR3 Weight Pockets that have black stiffeners must be replaced with the new pockets having gray stiffeners prior to further use.

In conjunction with the retrofit, an inspection of the fixed (female) buckle that secures the weight pocket into the BC is highly recommended. Guidelines are included in the attached Notice.

The Consumer Notice describes the retrofit process and urges you to discontinue use of the QLR3 Weight Pockets until they are replaced with new pockets that can be obtained directly from Oceanic at no charge.

Oceanic urges all owners of Oceanic BCs that have the original QLR3 Weight Pockets (with black stiffeners) to go to the Oceanic website and complete the QLR3 Registration Form to obtain replacement pockets at no charge.

    Go to >> www.oceanicww.com/QLR3

They will send you the replacement pockets at no cost if you do not already have the new ones.

Its a great BCD but the quick release weight system is not fun. Each side maxs out at 10LBS, I had 8LBs
and could not get the thing to snap into place. My buddy had the new Probe from Oceanic with the same weight system and we ran into the same problem. I would recommend never taking the weights out once they lock in. The way it butts up together there isn't any room to push it in more. Test this out once you get it so you don't waste time during your dives.

Comments about Oceanic Excursion 2 BCD, Black:

Very solidly built BCD. My first rear inflate. I am impressed with the fit and comfort, especially the back padding. I'm 5'9, 155 and the medium fits me very well. Nice big pockets on each side, plenty of d-rings. This is the most comfortable rig I've yet tried.

Comments about Oceanic Excursion 2 BCD, Black:

I ordered the medium and as a 5'11" 180lbs guy it fits snug but comfortable. I would like to see longer shoulder straps to lower the BCD. The cumber bun is sized right. Had no problem with the weight pockets like other reviews have mentioned. I was diving with 18lbs and could have added another 6lbs is needed. Good quality and would recommend, but watch the size. If I was an inch taller I would go large.

Only use this BCD once, but worked great and very comfortable. Followed the advice from other reviews and ordered a medium. I am 5/11 and 180lbs and it fits snug but well. No problem with weight pockets and I was using 18lbs.

Comments about Oceanic Excursion 2 BCD, Black:

This is my first back inflate BCD and although I have only dived with it about 6 times, I don't think I'll go back to a vest inflate. It's extremely comfortable, great horizontal position underwater and while the pockets aren't large, they are certainly big enough for folding snorkel/spare light/point and shoot camera etc.

If you are unsure which size to get, I would recommend going for the smaller size. I'm 5"10' and 176 pound which put me in-between a medium and a large. I got the large which proved to be a bit big however certainly not bad enough to warrant sending it back. No doubt after the Xmas feeding/drinking frenzy it'll fit me like a glove in Jan.
